Facts based discussion on the Pyramids
Nobody denies that the pyramids exist. Now, however, it has emerged that one of the Republican party's leading candidates to run for president believes that the pyramids were built for storing grain. I know Diplomacy players are among the smartest people in the world. So I ask you – do the math. Show how the pyramids were not tombs, but granaries.

In any case, I actually wanted to make a thread about how batshit crazy Ben Carson is, but nicking BOG's thread title seemed an amusing idea to me.

So, Ben Carson. What's up with him?

'Fact based math'?? What the hell is fact-based math?

Sure all math is based on axioms, which are just ideas. And the only requirement is that it works; math is a tool. A mental construct for doing useful things. It has no basis in fact!

I see no reason why the Pyramids couldn't have been used as a granary. My Great-Gran's urn did sterling service as a bookend for several years. The same principle applies.

Here goes:

election year less Carson's IQ, divided by president's number, divided by number of vertices on a pyramid, divided by the cube of the sides on a triangle = one

as one is "true" then Carson's claim must be correct.
Lanium (100 D)

The pyramids were technically granaries. The pharaoh's were buried with grain and other basic necessities to ensure they had a good start in the afterlife.

Octavious it is very disrespectful of you to store grain in your great grandmother's urn.

And I'm not 100 percent sure my claim is a fact, just what I've heard.

Pyramids are big which means they provide a lot of space. To store a corpse you need little space, to store great amounts of grain you need a lot of space. Ergo pyramids are made to store great amounts of grain q.e.d.

Axioms used:
(1) If something is big it provides a lot of space.
(2) If something provides a lot of space it is made to store great amounts of grain.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

The pyramids are mostly solid on the inside though. They contain surprisingly little internal space, it's mostly solid blocks.

Perhaps we are missing the obvious, the pyramids are built from compressed grain rather than stone. That is why there appears to be so little open space inside.

Aliens who knew the need for grain storage?

Whilst it is clear that they are a really crappy design for grain storage, it is fair to say they are also a really crappy design for a tomb. Heavily over-engineered in both cases.

What we have is clearly an early example of a bridge to nowhere. A job creation scheme to keep the peasants from revolting.
Ogion (3817 D)

Unless Joseph and God are aliens, which might actually explain rather a lot. Apparently they're aliens who aren't so advanced that they haven't heard they need to lay off the carbs, though.

And also, apparently Dr. Carson also lied about getting into West Point. It seems he never even applied. (On the flip side, it might mean he's brilliantly qualified to be a Republican President, since he has excellent expertise in forging evidence to drag the US into stupid wars!)
Randomizer (722 D)

Carson is perfectly qualified to make up facts to compete with Trump's facts. Reality doesn't mean anything to politicians.

I have a question for BOG. An honest, serious question:

You say you're deeply religious, yes? That being the case, do you believe that what happens in the world is all part of God's plan?

(This is relevant to climate change, bear with me)
So Doctor Ben Carson said something that's out there. Is his statement more or less believable than Mrs. Hillary Clinton made $100,000 on cattle futures by reading a paper that does not cover cattle futures and then just stopped investing in them. Is his math more or less right than Mr. Bernie Sanders math where he thinks you can take 90% of someone's property and they will continue participating in the economy at the same rate? His opinion on the pyramids has no effect on anyone's life. The failed beliefs of the liberal/leftist/progressive does. On the issues that matter the most liberals/leftists/progressives are fools (at least their lemming like followers are fools). History and reality prove that.

Capitalism was the liberal policy of its time. Totally failed. You're correct.
TrPrado (461 D)
07 Nov 15 UTC
I would have put /s, but I've heard you might not understand it.
I am new but, I am not a conservative. Things either work or they don't. They are right or they are wrong. Like capitalism being a liberal idea. That is wrong. Capitalism is the "natural" system. Where ever there is socialism capitalism will spring up. Socialism must be forced on a population with mountains of regulation then it always fails to deliver better, always.
Another wrong is that capitalism has failed. Starting with Reagan's refocus on capitalism we had 25 years of growth. Clinton deregulates the banks the democrats give steroids to the housing market then we have a government induced bubble burst and somehow capitalism has failed? Come on, you don't believe that do you? Or do you just repeat what your leaders tell you?
TrPrado (461 D)

I was being sarcastic.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

So, Powellcrosleyir, you attack socialism for over-regulating and you also attack Clinton for de-regulation. Ok.

Capitalism was originally on the rise to go against the concept of mercantilism. Comparatively, capitalism was more progressive because it gave the individual business owner more free reign to make money. So, yeah, it was the liberal policy of its time.

"So, Powellcrosleyir, you attack socialism for over-regulating and you also attack Clinton for de-regulation. Ok."
Privatization + Regulation = Good
It actually describes every reasonable (read, not laissez-faire) form of capitalism.

No, things do not merely work, did democracy take off in Iraq because it universally works? Things can work when people believe they can. So socialism or capitalism or democracy all work or do not depending on the context.

To take your criticism of socialism further, if people believe in it, then it is not foosted upon them. To take your claim of capitalism, if people don't believe in it then it does not operate - inagine property rights are not a thing in your culture, then you have a nomadic style of life with people living wherever is most useful for them. Anyone who tries to forces you to stay off a certain part of the land will be met with force hy thise who do not believe in the right to restrict use of tha particular piece of land - your culture may believe that all land is a sacred gift and it is for everyone. That infact it is an inherently immoral act to withhold it.

So, how about those native americans and the capitalist genocide, and cultural destruction?

There are many alternative beliefs which work in certain contexts with kore of less efficiency.

webDip YouTube Channel
Hello all,
I've had several people ask about the YouTube channel, so I just wanted to assure everyone that it is not dead. We were having some audio recording issues that were making the videos very time consuming to produce. Once I resolve that (hopefully very soon) I expect we will go back to a very frequent release schedule. Stay tuned!
