Wait, now that you bring up the topic, is there any reason the Republicans would want to avoid filling this role? Like does it stop some procedural things happening which are necessary for government?

You've just gotta convince a Republican representative to nominate you, and then all >400 vote on whether or not it should be you or whatever soul, unwilling, gets nominated. I'm not old enough to be a representative, but would consider doing it if I miraculously found the time.

Filibuster is exclusive to the Senate. The House of Representatives has no such rule.
