The Speaker

Since House Republicans are having a difficult time finding someone for them to elect as Speaker that actually wants the job, do you think we could get them to nominate someone from webDip? It could be a brilliant way to kickstart a political career, especially if we aren't Republican yet by some miracle actually make it there. Are there any willing among us?

Bugged Country Draw?

Hey guys,

One of our friends (http://www.webdiplomacy.net/profile.php?userID=62648&page-games=1#top), out of 6 normal diplomacy games (one in progress), has drawn Germany 6 out of 6 times. That has a 8.49 * 10^-6 chance of happening. It seems like his account is probably bugged somehow?

Don't really agree with that. It may take more diplomacy, but you should be able to sway one or the othe to side with you. That's the nature of the game

Sure but that's with open minded players, those of which seems to be occurring more and more often. Nonetheless a large chunk of players go into a game already knowing what their game plan is, which is unfortunate. When I'm Austria and I propose something to Russia or Turkey, chances are that I am either ignored completely, or met with agreement and then find out that they do the exact opposite of what I propose.

You should be able to sway one of them, but the frequency in which that happens and the cost to Austria when it does occurs sort of turns me off to Austria. Maybe I'm just a terrible diplomacy player when I'm Austria but seems very unlikely considering I'm fine with other countries.

Austria: was either love it or hate, with lots of good and bad rankings, with not too much in the middle.
England: was all over the place.
France: got no 1s, lots of good marks, obvs.
Germany: very consistent with mostly 3-6s.
Italy: no real pattern
Turkey: no 1s, no 7s. Lots of 6s

If someone posted with any ties, I could not count their vote at all. But it is still interesting the variety of people's preferences and views about the different countries.

@ Yoyoyozo: I feel the opposite way. Austria is the best power because if you can survive the first three years, you suddenly become incredible strong, because your builds are in the centre of the map.

Such a hard decision! I play mostly gunboat games, so my opinion will probably differ from other people's opinions.

Hate

Russia (get ganged upon too easily)
Germany (too centralized, which means too easy to get attacked)
Turkey (sometimes I get lucky, sometimes I'm stuck at four centers forever)
England (sometimes I do awesome, sometimes I suck)
Austria (either you get destroyed within the first few years, or you do very well; I enjoy the challenge)
France (just a fun nation to play, lots of options, hard to go wrong)
Italy (nobody expects the underdog to win, which is exactly why I love playing Italy!)

I took over this game for TruNinja when he went aowl. I think we are supposed to keep notes and make them available so other people can see how we actually thought about the other players and game progress.

Penny stocks

Penny stocks have recently caught my eye and was wondering if there are anyone here who have had any experiences with them. From what I can tell they have the tendency to be quite risky but also can be quite rewarding if one knows what they are doing.
