Interesting idea. Or possibly we could have a game setting option of "no replacements", so players can create games where even if someone CDs out, you don't get a replacement. That option might make a bunch of people quite happy, actually, I know some really prefer no replacements over any replacement.

That's not as critical as the question of whether the dev team is interested in implementing the feature. I just added it to the issues list as a feature request. I suspect there's a lot of higher priority issues in front of it though, so I wouldn't expect it to appear soon. :-)

I really believe the game should be open to a sub as soon as the country goes into CD, not having to wait 2 missed phases. That id the way the real rules are written, and it prevents a position from completely deteriorating.

The idea of communicating with players in a game you're not in is an interesting one. Something to think about.

A related- but different -idea that the team has been discussing is having a spectator chat window available only to spectators - with either mode, we'd have to think carefully about how to avoid metagaming/creating other problems.

On a no-replacements mode, the feeling of the team is that we want to avoid having too many niche options, else our game setup screen starts looking like an aeroplane dashboard. Typically, when a player says "I don't want replacements, let's play on", it's only the player(s) who would benefit from not having a replacement. I haven't really heard anyone say that they want this mode before.

Players have regularly asked for better handling of NMRs and replacements, though. There's a lot of scope for improvement. We have an improved NMR handling mode in the works. Soon (tm)*.

You're welcome! I should also add that discussion and opinions on site features are really valuable. So, to everyone - please don't hesitate to make threads like these (or comment on an existing one) if you have ideas.

But all site development is done on a volunteer basis, so progress is always slow. We have a long todo list already :)

I dislike the effect of NMR/CD on game balance (and hate waiting for adjudication when a player has already missed a phase) so I am grateful to anyone who steps in as a replacement. Anything that makes this more likely should be applauded. That said, is this the best way? As BaldOldGuy said, why should a prospective player believe anything that is said to him through this new channel?

Personally I think that a joining player's points to buy in should be protected. You may win more points but you cannot lose any. This means that take you could take on even the most terrible position without having to pay for the privilege. I know that I would stepping in more often under these terms than the current ones. Also, I think it would be much easier to implement than a chat mechanism.
