Autumn 2004 Russia F Ukr - Pol ???
How is it possible for a fleet to move from the Ukraine to Poland over land? There is no mention of any water way in the map variant or elswhere. Impossible move in my opinion. It would seem you are now allowed to move fleets from the black sea to the baltic???

5 minute games
Can anyone confirm that 5-minute games do not start with the addition of the seventh player but instead start when the sign up period was originally scheduled to end?

Thanks.

Newbie Question
Hello, me and some office mates have just discovered this massively awesome game but we're quite intimidated by the level of skill that people have.

Is it possible to create a game with less than a full team of players, such as 5 man in the regular map. Or playing 10 man in the world map that says 17 players?

Boas :) Ainda há por aí alguém português, ou brasileiro até, que ainda jogue webdiplomacy? Estou a pensar criar um jogo só de portugueses, se alguém estiver interessado que deixe aí mensagem.

Okay, someone explain this Rank thing to me. I was a political puppet forever, and now I see this guy, BigDickBrick who has survived one game and CD'd 5 times. That's it. That's all he has done. Finished one game. And his Rank is Member. What is this Rank system based on?

Game names
Do you care how games are named? If so, what do you like? Descriptive ones (e.g. World Dip - Anon - PPSC) or something more imaginative (e.g. "How much is it worth?").
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

When you're playing 50 games I tend to keep them short and descriptive.
diplomat61 (223 D)

My own preference is for something imaginative, because I find it more inspiring.

Most of the games I have started use quotes from Shakespeare, mainly the speech before Harfleur in Henry V ("Stiffen the sinews", "Summon up the blood"). I have also used a quote from George Santayana ("Remember the past" and a misquote "Condemned by history"), plus "Dark days lie ahead" from a Haiku I wrote to promote a public press game.

However, my favourite is "Infamy", which refers to my favourite line in a movie:
"Infamy, Infamy, they've all got it in for me" spoken by Julius Caesar in "Carry On Cleo".

My favorite named games in my time on the site:

"Ava Eats a Shoe"

"Zultar is a Giant Sissy"

"Haha Eden sucks (pt. 1)"

I was also apparently in a game called "Bosox" that didn't involve bo_sox.

Surreal is fun too.

@Valis: I find it easier to recall details of a game with an imaginative title than a descriptive one. Probably why I prefer them.

there is something about naming a name as a parody of other game names.
the dogs are back in town (for example).
tho it does only lead to that person being found out and offed (in game only please) by the name sake of the parody.

"Knowing an opponent in an anonymous game by the creator's nomenclature"

… is why I have used a whole load of names, and not all Shakespearean.
