You also can't revel in your genius move by crowing about it. No one hears you scream, or laugh victoriously, in gunboat.

You can do what us extreme narcissist do and make predictions in the Notes tab, then you have a time stamp to reveal at the end of the game that proves you weren't making the prediction with hindsight

Too many gunboaters are single-minded. They start off with a plan and try to execute it no matter what happens in the game state. Often their original plan is foiled or becomes impossible, and yet they keep beating their head's into a wall. Flexibility, folks!

As an offer of an opposing view, some folks would rather not play with someone that would call them a total fucking idiot no matter how poorly they play. What do you guys think? Bad form to call another player a total fucking idiot, or don't even play the game if you can't handle a little venomous spleen being vented your way?

Well, Denidon, I think calling people a total fucking idiot is bad form even where fully deserved, I agree. I can hardly say otherwise since I don't much appreciate it, even where I fully deserve it

@ Ogion - Going through this right now. I just can't understand what a particular player is thinking in this game and it was driving me wild for a few turns. Probably for the best it's gunboat as I am feeling more rational now that a few turns have passed.

@ Fluminator - Some people have lives to live. For example, I work 50 hours a week, go to business school two nights a week plus reading, homework, tests, am seeing three doctors usually at least 1 a week, have friends I want to see, have a girlfriend I need to take on dates and otherwise entertain, am studying a foreign language, have exercise that needs doing, wash clothes, iron, clean the house, play video games or watch tv.... I sometimes I really am not up for spend more time crafting messages to others at the end of the day on a 12h or 24h game. Sure I could do 2 day turns and maybe my grand kids can take over by the time we get to the end game in 30 real life years at that pace. But sometimes it's just easier to just make my moves and not be pressured to compete with others on messages.

But in a gunboat you don't have to read their idiot messages, especially when they are lying to you. You can decide what to do in a game and not have to wait until they are finished sending you messages.

@shield - Haha. Good to know that people with no lives play normal diplomacy, and people with lives only play gunboat.

Lol thanks flum. I got a little carried away but my point is that sometimes it's just easier to play gunboat and not have to exchange messages.

Thanks for being concerned. Fortunately the reasons are nothing serious. lt's along the lines of getting braces and getting trials for different ADD meds. Mainly it just takes up time in the short run but long run it will be fine.
