Where it went wrong
I thought I remember a proposed series called "Where it went wrong" or something like that.

Did no one have a game they wanted dissected? Because I wouldn't mind submitting some of my gunboat play to criticism.

Constitutional Rights for Embryonic Americans?
In the GOP debate last Thursday, unsurprisingly, abortion was a point of discussion amongst candidates. Obviously they were all pro-life to some extent or another, but Mike Huckabee went so far as to say that abortion was already illegal, because unborn children have the rights to equal protection under the law and due process. Right from conception, they have constitutional rights, he argues.

Regardless of your position on abortion, is this a valid argument?

Fairly self-explanatory, really. Backstabbr doesn't really work for me.

Cutting Convoys
Is it possible to stop a supported convoy (where the fleet convoying is supported) with a supported attack of equal support, thus not dislodging the convoying fleet?
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
14 Aug 15 UTC
No. To prevent a convoy, you must either dislodge one of the fleets involved, or bounce the convoyed army at the destination point.

So, for example: You have a fleet at Norwegian Sea, and England has a fleet at North Sea and an army at Edinburgh. If England orders a convoy to Norway:

- F Norwegian Sea to North Sea will *not* prevent the convoy's success.

- F Norwegian Sea to Norway will bounce with the army when it reaches Norway, and the army remains in Edi.

A convoy is only stopped if a necessary convoying fleet is dislodged.

An equal power attack would not dislodge the convoying fleet, and thus not stop the convoy.

Thank you Jamie and Valis.
Exactly what I thought until yesterday.
I was playing a gunboat game and in Autumn 1906 I ordered Lon-Hol with support from Bel and cutting German support from Burgundy.
The fleet in question was not dislodged but the move failed.
Please take a look and see what you think?
It was at a crucial juncture in the game and I might have gotten ahead before the Italian stab.

The fleet at North Sea convoy to London from Holland. (fail)

User error! :-)

Your convoy was ordered in reverse. Note the "from" and "to".
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

So I'm going to walk you through my thought process:
Arrow points from LON to HOL, so that means that was ordered correctly.

There are two questions left:
Whether NTH was ordered to convoy correctly
Whether the convoy was ordered correctly, but Holland had enough support not to be dislodged

I look at the units surrounding Holland.

Helio didn't support it.
Ruhr might have supported it but like you said it was cut

wait

a green support arrow between HOL and RUH?

That's going from HOL *TO* RUH?

If Holland was attacked, even unsuccessfully, it's support would be cut. If it's successfully ordering a support order, then the convoy wasn't just not successful, it never happened.

Therefore clearly the answer to the second question, was North Sea ordered correctly, is false.

Allow us to go to the "orders" tab (found at the bottom of the page) to check.

"The fleet at North Sea convoy to London from Holland. (fail)"

The convoy was ordered backwards. North Sea was ordered to convoy the Germany army in Holland to London.

That is why your convoy failed

Thanks guys. In the rush to plan and execute in the 5 mins I had I screwed up a key move.
Pity as Inhad Holland dead to rights. Bugger.
When I make ordering errors like that, or accidentally NMR on a crucial turn, or otherwise screw the hell up, I cry myself to sleep at night, taking comfort in the soft, melancholy shudders and the warm moistness of my pillow.

I feel for you.

I need help with a research paper!
It's due tomorrow night and I have to do a 12-15 page paper on how the internet of things and the third industrial revolution will affect society and more importantly the work force and employment.

I'm up to around 10 pages and I have no idea what to write for the last 2.
And no, increasing the font size of each period isn't allowed.

So teenagers brains are different from adult brains; that is a reason why we don't let them drink or drive... The frontal lobe which controls will-power and executive function ( ie decision making ) continues developing until about 25.

Risk taking
http://youtu.be/vBX-KulgJ1o
Great video, but the first thing i think of is relationships, (and given that i was recently dumped, this is no surprise) Naturally you could also apply this to diplomacy; but the probabilities get a little messed up, and in Dip not taking a bet means taking a different course, which may also be risky.
