How to get a random country ?
I have 6 games right now on this site, with France (3), Italy (2) and austria (1). Just stepped out of 2 other games simply because i got every time France. There was no preselection. It is simply getting boring.
rmf (100 D)
12 Feb 15 UTC
Probability of getting France in any one game? 1/7. Probability of getting France in three out of six games? 4320/117649 ~= 1 in 27. Congratulations, you are one in twenty-seven!

How have you "stepped out of two games"?

1. Welcome to the site.

2. It's not purely random on this site. It's weighted toward countries you have played less (but that goes for the other 6 players too, and the algorithm only considers finished games).

3. What do you mean, "stepped out?" Like, stopped playing a game that you joined, until your country went into civil disorder, disrupting the balance of the game and ruining it for 6 other people? Please don't do that, if so.

Also, France is one of the best countries to get. Count yourself lucky.
Octavious (2802 D)

France has quite a lot of variety to it as well. If France is boring you you're doing it wrong. Being killed as Austria can get old pretty quick, and Turkey can be tedious no matter what you do, but France is fun.

my only classic solos have come as france, if you get spain and portugal, ally with italy, you are set
2ndWhiteLine (2736 D(B))
12 Feb 15 UTC
MKECharlie is correct. It is technically weighted random selection, but you've also got to factor in the probabilities for the other six players as well. Chances are, the probability of the other players getting countries that aren't France are effecting your own odds. If it makes you feel better, you probably won't play France for the next year or so :)

ssorenn, looks like you finished a game as Italy in October :)

with stepped out i mean the games were in the pre phase and i quit the games before they started.
it is not that France is bad. it is just boring for me always playing the same country.

MKECharlie (2074 D(G))

You don't know what country you're going to draw in the pre phase, though.
yassem (2533 D)

1. Just to stress that even more - never leave a game just because you don't like your country. Well tough luck, but don't ruin the game for the rest of the players.
2. Like, seriously, don't do this
3. I honestly never knew the system of choosing countries is weighted. Are active games that you join after somebody's CD taken into account?
4. I honestly prefer Austria to France. Each game as Austria is fight for your life from day one, but its very rewarding. In case of France it's so boring, not to mention getting stuck with a unit in Belgium and Burgundy and being unable to make a breakthrough for like 4 years because England is being a selfish dick...

3 of my last 4 games on this site have been as Austria, I have a 100% Defeat rate as Austria.
And in total a quarter of my games on this site have been Austria (In Classic)
I hate playing as Austria.

So stop whining about getting France ;) My Ratings are plummeting because off that damn nation....

BTW, we were comparing Austria and France. One thing just occurred to me - Austria and France are the only two countries for which there exists a scenario where they get wiped out in the first two turns.
I used to always compare the countries chances in the first year by most possible SCs and most guaranteed SCs, never thought about being annihilated...
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
12 Feb 15 UTC
@ yassem theres a scenerio for every country to get wiped in two years: Russia= England moves north with german support while the A/T alliance builds in the south. Turkey= Austria and Russia alliance. England: France and Germany alliance. France: England and Germany allaince while Italy presses in slightly. Italy: France opens south and Austria opens west. Germany: France and England ally possibly with Russia.

The least likely of these scenerios is the Italian one as France is often occupied with E/G and Austria is occupied with R/T

He said two turns, not two years, though it's really only theoretically possible.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

I consider the entire year to be equal to 1 turn. and each "turn" as you guys are referring is a phase.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
12 Feb 15 UTC
Each turn represents six months of time. The first turn is called
a Spring turn and the next a Fall turn. After each Fall turn, each
Great Power must reconcile the number of units it controls with the
number of supply centers it controls. At this time some units are
removed and new ones are built.

Each turn has a series of phases. Here are the phases in a complete
two-turn year:

Spring four-phase turn
1. Diplomatic phase
2. Order Writing phase
3. Order Resolution phase
4. Retreat and Disbanding phase

Fall five-phase turn
1. Diplomatic phase
2. Order Writing phase
3. Order Resolution phase
4. Retreat and Disbanding phase
5. Gaining and Losing Units phase

After a Fall turn, if one Great Power controls 18 or more supply
centers, the game ends and that player is declared the winner.

^What that guy said : )
Byron, in what world would it make sense I meant turns as in years?
yassem (2533 D)
12 Feb 15 UTC
For France it's basically impossible of course, but I could imagine a scenario in which Austria is a rather dick (perhaps because his playing Austria for the third time in a row) and get's everybody angry, which leads to the gangbanging on him, which joined with a couple of terrible decisions would lead to losing by 1902... Wonder if that has ever happened : D

It's too damned cold to fight in winter and people are too busy with the harvest to fight in summer. As with war, as with school and university term times.
Nescio (1059 D)

If I include the two games which were cancelled, I have had Austria, England, France, Germany, Italy, and Russia all exactly three games each; the exception is Turkey: I've never played with that nation (or at least not on this site).
Turkey seems a bit uninteresting, though; fewer options and opening moves available
I don't think I've a preferance for any nation; most of my games end in a draw; with Austria I've had a solo-victory, a survival, and my only defeat :)

The Key
The key lepanto, of course.

Why are people so belligerent toward a key lepanto? I am yet to find a player that is actually open and receptive to it. Speaking from Austria's perspective, do Italian players simply not have the willpower not to stab?

Who's Got the Sexist Accents? Most of Us Here, That's Who (Apparently)
https://www.yahoo.com/travel/which-country-has-the-sexiest-accent-110641864972.html I like that just generic "British" and "American" accents are #1 and #2...because of course Brooklynites, Cajuns, Angelinos and Minnesotans (doncha know!) sound completely the same...as do *insert topical English counterparts. But hey, on the bright side, US and UK Webdippers...we've got the sexiest accents around (not you Canadian players, though...not even in the Top 10, eh?) :p

Any Poli Sci geeks around?
Hi, it's been a while. The political science department at my school can be dead sometimes and I've been looking to bounce some ideas around. I don't know why, but I remembered this site and thought there might be a few of you around with some interest for discussion. I know that for the most part, the discussion on this site is news/opinion based, but I don't know what kind of theory backgrounds some of you might have...
