The Leagues 2015 Signup Thread
Back in November I did a sort of straw poll among you all, and the Leagues was the one with the most votes, so this is the one I shall be bringing back this winter. Signups will close on Sunday Feb 1st after the Super Bowl.

Info can be found here: http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/The-php-League

Goldfinger. Thank you for organizing this tournament. It is much appreciated.

On page one of this thread, Abgemacht wrote "and tie breaks by, in order, SC count, games won, 2-ways, 3-ways, 4-ways etc.", which included "game won", but then I saw that this does not match the tournament rules page, so I wanted to ask for clarification.

It is a legitimate opinion that more draws may be more worthy, Goldfinger, but by your logic, it would also seem that in the spirit of the tournament, 4 hard fought four-way draws could be rewarded over 3 hard-fought three-way draws as well. Since the paragraph was going linear in the other direction (i.e. "number of 2-way draws, number of 3-way draws, number of 4-way draws, etc"), I assumed that solo wins would be ahead of 2-way draws. It seems to me you are going in both directions from 2-way down, and then for some reason solo wins are last?

When Abgemacht improperly stated it before, perhaps based on his familiarity with other tournaments, no one corrected that statement until now. Otherwise, in that rare circumstance, you would have a mess trying to explain which tie-breaker you were using, and that you were using a non-linear formula only when it came to solo wins.

Nevertheless, it would be rare, indeed, and the important thing is that it is stated and clarified in advance, as you have now done.

Thanks again. Looking forward to the fun!
Please don't confuse my logic to say that a 4wd would beat a 3wd in a tie-break.

Frankly, the rules page is a bit of a mess. Since I have only just taken over this tournament, I'm going to have to go through there and make sure things are clarified properly. For now though, lets say that number of solos will not be a tie-break in this tournament.

"Scoring in the leagues is as follows: 12 for a win, 12 divided by n for an n-way draw, and tie breaks by, in order, SC count, games won, 2-ways, 3-ways, 4-ways etc."

This is literally the last sentence of the rules page linked in the OP.
There's a discrepancy because its not mentioned on the rules page abge. It is mentioned on the front page of the tournament.

I suppose for logics sake I should say chluke is right and fix it on the rules page, but it is worth a thought.

I'm with chluke here. Seems better to incentivize solos.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

This is what the rules page says:

"Players will get 12 D for winning a game, 12/n for an n-way draw, and no points for a survival or a defeat. In the event that two players have the same number of points, they will be differentiated between on the basis of a SC count across the games. The maximum SC count in any game is 18, even if more are held. A tie in SC count will be determined by number of 2-way draws, number of 3-way draws, number of 4-way draws, etc respectively."

That appears to me to be the same statement that is made on the front page, which I quoted.

Abge I think the contention is if
"A tie in SC count will be determined by number of 2-way draws, number of 3-way draws, number of 4-way draws, etc respectively."
implies or should be changed to
"A tie in SC count will be determined by number of *solos*, 2-way draws, number of 3-way draws, number of 4-way draws, etc respectively."
Although I could be wrong.

Abge, read it again. It's missing wins in the list of tiebreakers.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

or something similar. I think the point is that your post above mine doesn't mention solo's, the post 4 above mine DOES mention solos.

The Key
The key lepanto, of course.

Why are people so belligerent toward a key lepanto? I am yet to find a player that is actually open and receptive to it. Speaking from Austria's perspective, do Italian players simply not have the willpower not to stab?

Who's Got the Sexist Accents? Most of Us Here, That's Who (Apparently)
https://www.yahoo.com/travel/which-country-has-the-sexiest-accent-110641864972.html I like that just generic "British" and "American" accents are #1 and #2...because of course Brooklynites, Cajuns, Angelinos and Minnesotans (doncha know!) sound completely the same...as do *insert topical English counterparts. But hey, on the bright side, US and UK Webdippers...we've got the sexiest accents around (not you Canadian players, though...not even in the Top 10, eh?) :p

Any Poli Sci geeks around?
Hi, it's been a while. The political science department at my school can be dead sometimes and I've been looking to bounce some ideas around. I don't know why, but I remembered this site and thought there might be a few of you around with some interest for discussion. I know that for the most part, the discussion on this site is news/opinion based, but I don't know what kind of theory backgrounds some of you might have...
