Does this game have to be cancelled?
Hi. I'm currently in this game in which we had 3 people get banned. There haven't been any moves made yet and it is still in spring 1901. So if we were able to fill the positions, 1 of which has been filled already, would we be allowed to continue? Here's a link to the game.

Need a replacement Texas in Full Press Anon WTA, low stakes game.
Texas was banned, and without a replacement it's going to be a very one-sided game.

The Favorite Author Tournament: The Round of 32
And here we go, into Round 2, with Shakespeare being out due to his losing again...because he's the master of tragedy, of course! ;) Will there be literary superstars? Yes! Will there be a glut of sci fi and fantasy writers? Yes! Will Thucy continue push a #ThoreauLaozi2016 platform (Change We Can Believe In...except change is just a natural process and you must learn to accept it like the good little Transcendentalist that you are!) YES! ;) 32 authors, 1 goal...whatever that is.

The Last Man in Europe...Or, Rather, China
http://news.yahoo.com/25-years-tiananmen-barely-known-china-youth-064659528.html That's honestly very depressing...It was 1989...but its treatment is not too far from "1984." And THIS is why I have such a hard time sympathizing with those shouting "Wake the Fuck Up," as if disagreement over America's future was the equivalent to being asleep at the wheel. Neither Bush nor Obama were the tyrants the Michael Moores and Glenn Becks call them out to be...THIS is The Party incarnate...

Lil' bit of French
I want to know how to say this in French:
"(I would like to reserve the spot) in the period from 16 July to 6 August."
That might not even be a proper English sentence, but you probably get what I mean. I just need to make clear in which period, and I don't know how.
Monday morning I'm handing in a letter in which I need that sentence, so there's no rush.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

It's also not very important, FYI.

Have you used google translate?

steephie22 (182 D(S))
31 May 14 UTC
That doesn't look gramatically correct. It's the grammar (the way you specify a period, I suppose you could argue that that's not grammar, but it's a specific way) I'm struggling with.

It's possible that it is correct, it just looks a bit wrong... Especially "au" can't be right I think.

If someone who knows French could tell me wether this is correct, please tell me:

(Je voudrais réserver la place) dans la période du 16 Juillet à 6 Août.
Mujus (1495 D(B))

Steephie, your English isn't clear. What do you mean by "spot"? A hotel room, an appointment? And do you want it for the whole time, or just any time within that time? A suggestion: Why don't you put it in good clear Dutch and let people translate that to French, without going through English?
steephie22 (182 D(S))

Camping spot.
Whole time.
It seemed to me that that had less chance of succeeding unless I create an account on some Dutch-French forum, which seems... Redundant...

If the sentence above is incorrect, making it correct will do. It's not that important, and I don't blindly copy and paste. I'll recognize the right sentence when I see it, if the one I gave is wrong.

Okay, so "dans" is probably wrong, since that would be in that period, so you don't know I mean the whole period... Maybe it's best to just leave the period bit out, like this:

(Si des chiens sont permitté, je voudrais réserver une place dans l’ombre et loin du chemin,) du 16 juillet à 6 août.

Is that right though?
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Nearly correct. You don't need the brackets, and it's best not to use "permitté" like that, it should really be "autorisés", I think.

So:

"Si des chiens sont autorisés, je voudrais réserver une place dans l’ombre et loin du chemin, du 16 juillet à 6 août."

Not that it matters. Whether you've reserved it or not what you will find when you get there is a full campsite with your spot occupied by a huge Frenchman with big, hairy arms who will use said arms to shrug at you until you leave.

Now, now, Octavious. Less of the UKIP-approved cultural sterotypes please. Instead of fuming about the French, calm yourself down with a nice cup of char and then take your bulldog for a walk.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

The brackets were to make clear that that's not what I'm really asking for, so they were never going to be part of the actual sentence, but thanks for the correction :)

@ Jamie

But insulting the French is what calms me down, and it does so very effectively. You should try it sometime. Besides, one of the few things I learnt from French exchanges at school was that every single Frenchman was very hairy :)

"chiens" - (plural) dog (not vulg. if for a female dog) bitch; hound.

Everybody will obviously understand the Jamie's version, but if you are perfectionist, I would suggest:

"Si les chiens sont autorisés, je voudrais réserver une place à l’ombre et loin du chemin, du 16 juillet au 6 août."

"des chiens" -> "les chiens"
Just the same as in English you say "dogs" and not "some dogs"

"dans l’ombre" -> "à l’ombre"
Don't ask why, it is just how the common expression goes.

"à 6 août" -> "au 6 août"
au = à + le, and you need the extra "le" the same way as you needed it in front of "du 16 juillet" (du = de + le). You just always put a "le" with dates, same as you put a "the" in English.

Is it possible to make it so that, on maps like World War 1 (classical), you can build in non-home supply centers, as you can on the Modern Europe map? If so, how?

I don't see anyone else posting about Maya Angelou, but similarly to those few gifted people like her, her brilliance shone even in her final hours. A few of her final words, more of which are going to be broadcasted at baseball's Civil Rights Game in Houston today in her memory:

Synesthesia
I have always known that I perceive letters and numbers to have colors, but only just recently have I discovered that this condition has a name - Synesthesia. I'm curious as to whether anyone else on webDip thinks the letter K looks green or the letter A looks red...

Thoughts?
