Does this game have to be cancelled?
Hi. I'm currently in this game in which we had 3 people get banned. There haven't been any moves made yet and it is still in spring 1901. So if we were able to fill the positions, 1 of which has been filled already, would we be allowed to continue? Here's a link to the game.

Need a replacement Texas in Full Press Anon WTA, low stakes game.
Texas was banned, and without a replacement it's going to be a very one-sided game.

The Favorite Author Tournament: The Round of 32
And here we go, into Round 2, with Shakespeare being out due to his losing again...because he's the master of tragedy, of course! ;) Will there be literary superstars? Yes! Will there be a glut of sci fi and fantasy writers? Yes! Will Thucy continue push a #ThoreauLaozi2016 platform (Change We Can Believe In...except change is just a natural process and you must learn to accept it like the good little Transcendentalist that you are!) YES! ;) 32 authors, 1 goal...whatever that is.

What is the reliability rating based off? Mine sunk to 59% a while ago and hasn't come back up - despite a lot of reliable playing :)

@Mapu: It's because of my 600 games, 500+ of them are live games. Shit happens. Electric goes out, internet dies, or an emergency comes up. Sometimes you just forget, or your piss break takes too long. I'm tired of all this criticism from guys who don't do live games.

So, other people agree with me, astounding. I figured since Jamiett "I don't understand the concept of timezones" 99uk took another opportunity to try to troll me that I could be completely off the reservation, but in case anyone is counting, of the 3 people who regularly play gunboat, all 3 agree with me. So I guess, again, Jamiett is completely out of touch. And in case you are wondering Jamiett, it is currently 2 pm on June 1st where I live.

There are players that play GB that do not have a lot of CDs, and that is admirable. At the same time, late game CDs in Gunboat are common. I don't expect an austria that just got blitzkriegd from three directions to keep playig a GB, if he wants to go make a sandwich instead of trying to get into vienna he is entitled. I don't expect an England with one fleet in Edinburg to mount an offensive to nuisance Germany after a sea lion attack. I know sometimes you try to take a phone call on a meaningless retreat phase and it goes long and you cant get your 15 unit move in 5 minutes, that's a CD. All of those are not looked too poorly on in a live game.

I also understand that sandbagging a 2 day game is in fact bad sportsmanship as most folks don't want to wait 48 hours to see where Germany retreated his army from munich too. If you decide you are done with a game and make sure that the action slows down to a snail's pace, yes you are unreliable, I don't think the same can be said of people who CD in live games, which is rather easy to do.

Maybe since PE has agreed with me, we can actually have a conversation about this instead of launching personal attacks.
and in addition, this would be meaningless if I didn't know that this info would be used as a cudgel against folks with a seemingly high number of CDs. I know that this rating will be used in tournaments or high stakes games that I might want to play in the future but I won't be able too.

It's more about live games than gunboats to me, but I agree. I've had it happen where I'll go to bring in groceries and then get a drink, and then maybe use the bathroom, and then sit down and remember "Oh shit I was playing a game!"
Or you sign up for a game at 10 mins and later it has 4 people in at 30 secs to go and you are sure it wont go, so you go put up your laundry and you come back and its Spring 02 and you have CDd.

"Or you sign up for a game at 10 mins and later it has 4 people in at 30 secs to go and you are sure it wont go, so you go put up your laundry and you come back and its Spring 02 and you have CDd."

But that extra 30 seconds on the laundry was sure worth it, right? I am sure the other 6 people in the game agree with you.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
02 Jun 14 UTC
I've had that situation (laundry and all) happen a few times :/
Completely fair, I'm sure my analysis took into account the benefit of "30 seconds left on the laundry" rather than "there is no way this game is going to go based on my 2 year experience playing GB."

@Santa - Want to know why I don't play live? Cause I don't have the fucking time and would likely CD. I have more respect for the other players than that so I just don't play. See how easy it is? There should be a penalty for any CD. Period.

"Want to know why I don't play live? "

The guy who is on here 24 hours a day doesn't have time, got it. And frankly, I don't think anyone on here gives a crap about who Draugnar respects or doesn't respect. I think someone would have to have some respect for Draugnar for that to be the case.
Maybe people should be penalized for not showing up to the game, fine. But still I don't know why a live game turkey who is inconsequential to the stalemate being set up or an England who cant move his one remaining army in Edi while his attackers can't dislodge him, or a 1 Army Austria in budapest who is being support held by russia against Italy, or a Russia who notices that France has won the game and surely on the way to a win while a newbie turkey is hitting Russia in the south has to stick around and waste his or her life for another hour in order to be "reliable."

@santa - posting on the forum in 5 or 10 minute spurts every couple of hours is not the same as dedicating 3 solid hours to a game. O agree that certain situations shouldn't penalize in live because it wastes another hour needlessly. But your lame battery and power excuses are just le excuses.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Draugnar is not here 24 hours a day, Santa. I know this because I've noticed it sometimes takes him several hours to respond to my abuse ;-)

No, ok, looking at this seriously, I can understand Santa's point. If you've got two units left, and you're trapped in a corner in a live game, with virtually no hope of anything more than a survival unless someone else CDs, for turn after turn after turn, and it's now the sixth hour of the game, which has reached 1925, and all you're doing is repeatedly confirm the same orders, over and over again, and then suddenly both your neighbours turn on you, clearly intending to cut you of the draw, and there's nothing you could do to stop them - what harm are you doing to the other players by CDing at that point? None.

CD-ing in a game with three day phases in the same scenario does harm the other players, not because it affects the outcome of the game, but because it will needlessly cause a delay.

Those two cases are different and I have to admit that Santa has a point.

Instead of rigging the CD count system, why not just list the number of live games played and let people figure it out themselves or list the number of CDs with live games separately? It's simpler to program than rigging the CD count and wouldn't be arbitrary.

By way of comparison, I sometimes join a game that someone has dropped out of and therefore have a higher defeated & survived count than would be otherwise, but instead of wanting those numbers to be changed, it's simpler just to let people look at the existing "CD's taken over" stat and let anyone curious enough to figure it out themselves.

Or, you effers can do this:

- Live game stats

- Other than live game stats

and you can all go back to living your perfect lives.

The Last Man in Europe...Or, Rather, China
http://news.yahoo.com/25-years-tiananmen-barely-known-china-youth-064659528.html That's honestly very depressing...It was 1989...but its treatment is not too far from "1984." And THIS is why I have such a hard time sympathizing with those shouting "Wake the Fuck Up," as if disagreement over America's future was the equivalent to being asleep at the wheel. Neither Bush nor Obama were the tyrants the Michael Moores and Glenn Becks call them out to be...THIS is The Party incarnate...

Lil' bit of French
I want to know how to say this in French:
"(I would like to reserve the spot) in the period from 16 July to 6 August."
That might not even be a proper English sentence, but you probably get what I mean. I just need to make clear in which period, and I don't know how.
Monday morning I'm handing in a letter in which I need that sentence, so there's no rush.
