WebDiplomacy Mafia II: vDiplomacy Invasion
NOTE: The rules for this game are almost exactly the same as for the last one, but with changes to the TIE-RESOLUTION METHOD and the additions of the MOLE and QUESTION ASKER roles. If you read the rules in the last thread, you can just skip to these sections in this one, as the rest is the same. If you did not, it is strongly advised you read the whole of the below post.
The post has been copied from PE’s post (with his permission) with edits to reflect the changes.

Wife out of town, considering a possible live game tonight
My wife is going to be out of town with the kids. I will be home in 3 and a half hours. I have not played a live game on this site, so I thought I'd check to see interest.

Memorial Day
Only patriots need post.

Lance Corporal Robert Bolin - U.S Marine Corps - 1984-1988. I am thankful for all those sailors, soldiers, airmen, and Marines who went before, allowing me to have a life of moderate luxury in a nation where anyone who applies himself can climb the ranks.

New Reliability Game
Just finished a game with no NMRs. Can reliable players interested in playing post here with their preference for buy-in, PPSC/WTA, phase length and press. I prefer 24hr modest buy-in - happy with Gunboat, full press or global. Happy with PPSC or WTA

Hello,

In honor (kind of) of Memorial Day, I give you this awesome letter from a WWII soldier to his newborn son. (The writer happened to be a friend's grandfather).

Boycotts
Does anyone here actually boycott a company? If so why? Do boycotts work. I'm thinking of boycotting the Emerates airline over its recent discrimination of a person with depression, should if follow through?

Have you tried getting good service at a chik-fil-a?
Randomizer (722 D)
25 May 14 UTC
I boycott places that serve their customers food off the floor, even if they are giving it away as free samples. I got two so far that I never went back to.
2ndWhiteLine (2736 D(B))

I have a long list of restaurants that I boycott because they serve terrible food and have poor service. I don't know if you can call that a true "boycott", but its basically the same thing.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
25 May 14 UTC
We don't have Chik-fil-a in Canada

@Randomizer: fortunately for me I've never witnessed that happened, if I did my boycott list would be longer.

Draug, carbonated doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy. My sodastream is usually used to make sparkling water, and on occasion drinks with homemade syrups that aren't nearly as bad for you as normal soda.

The issue with sodastream is that they're an Israeli company with questionable practices regarding Palestinians. I know someone who elected to make his own home carbonation device rather than buying theirs. It's awesome.

@Fasces...I boycot Chick-Fil-A for two reasons. First, they donate to anti-gay orgs, which I just can't get down with. Second, they apparently hate the Muppets which is a cardinal sin in my book.
Theodosius (232 D(S))
25 May 14 UTC
Hate the muppets? Now that's something worthwhile to boycott.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 May 14 UTC
Eat more Subway. They love the Muppets and Disney both.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 May 14 UTC
Also, Subway has some fairly healthy options.
rojimy1123 (597 D)
26 May 14 UTC
I would, but there's a small family-owned sub joint around the way, run by a very nice Korean couple, that makes a killer Bulgogi sandwich. Can't pass that up. So I guess I boycott Subway, but unintentionally.
Theodosius (232 D(S))
26 May 14 UTC
I do boycott Wal-Mart. And I avoid places that serve poor food, or ship by Loomis or DHL.

Southern Iced Tea. I miss that. Used to make it, too. Maybe I'll start up again this summer.

And the Trustworthy Computing initiative...man, that was seriously evil, even for MS. Of course, what Apple is doing now has more than a sideways similarity to it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 May 14 UTC
Not going somewhere cause you don't like the service or product isn't a boycott. It's common sense. If that were the case, I'd be boycotting McDs cause of how much sugar and fat is in everything they sell. I just don't frequent them because their products aren't good for diabetics.

No, a boycott is on principle.or it isn't a boycott. But be careful to male certain your reason is valid. Some years back, people were boycotting Target because they were French owned. Problem was that they weren't and never had been. It was an internet rumor with no basis in fact started, most likely, by the China buying Walmart.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
26 May 14 UTC
Why would you boycott something because it's French owned anyway?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 May 14 UTC
Back during the start of the war in Iraq, France denounced American action there so the American public (duped into believing the WMD bullshit) was all about boycotting anything French.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
26 May 14 UTC
Ah...

So the French did do something right :)
Theodosius (232 D(S))

Bush went through, what, seven discredited reasons for invading Iraq before he found one that stuck, WMD, before finally admitted he invaded Iraq because he didn't like the leader?

That's one expensive dislike, with both sides still paying.

Sorry, sidelining the discussion.

Draugnar (0 DX)

Yeah, the fact is they are "frenched" fries. It's a means of cutting vegetables (frenched being oversized julliened.

There is pretty much nothing French about French fries.

Very true. French fries are generally edible whereas the vast majority of French cuisine really isn't.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Someone should tell the French if it is cold, it is a beverage. Could soup needs to be nuked.

PPSC Points Distribution
With regards to this game: gameID=142343

The pot was 175 D. Germany won with 22 of 34 SCs, so by my calculations Germany should win ( 22 / 34 ) * 175 = 113 D, but Germany only won 105 D (which is 60%, exactly, of the pool). Similarly, Turkey finished with 9 of 34 SCs, so Turkey should win ( 9 / 34 ) * 175 = 46 D, but won 53 D. What gives?
