Another fucked up stat: nearly one in a hundred Americans is in jail right now. A quarter of all inmates in the world are in jail in America.

There were a out 4 million slaves in 1860. There were 10 times that many blacks in 2012. So what we should find troubling is that 10% of the black population is behind bars and we should investigate why. Is it because of an inherent racism in the justice system targeting blacks or is it because we have institutional racism that forces them to turn to a life of crime to try and escape poverty, or is it just because they tend towards that life on their own. I believe it is mostly a result of them turning to crime to try and escape poverty they were born into (but I bet you thought I was gonna say they choose it of their own accord).

But that same life is thrust upon many poor white folk (who also turn to the same life of crime to survive). So we need to look at the classism (the real problem) and eliminate it.
