Question...
So, I haven't played here since before the improved interface (which rocks, thanks!). I am playing a game, and we all have green check marks. My orders look a bit different than they did before the last person finalized (there is a "not ready" button).

So...the game is not progressing, but everyone has green checks...what is going on?

Big Error or Small Error?
In the below map, notice that Naples' support is X'd out.
From the rulebook: "A convoyed Army doesn’t cut the support of a unit supporting an attack against one of the Fleets necessary for the Army to
convoy."
Although the resolution of my game is unaffected, the rules say that the support was successful, but it is not so marked.

From the orders: "[underline]The fleet at Naples support move to Ionian Sea from Tunis.[end underline] (fail)" -- http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=13948&viewArchive=Orders#index3

i don't know, you seem to be correct. Maybe there are sometimes slight variation on the rules and this site has chosen to differ slightly from the official rules... but good spot.

I think it is cut because the convoy 'succeeded' in the sense that the convoying fleets were not dislodged. The real failed move was the army itself, but it bounced while still cutting the support... thats the way I see it. If you hadn't held with both the Adriatic Sea and Albania, The fleet in the Ionian would have been dislodged and the support would not have been cut.

The way the system detects whether orders were successful is a bit shoddy, and is done after everything has already been resolved. When working things out inside the adjudicator the idea of a successful/failed support isn't very useful, things aren't really done like that, so instead everything gets worked out and then it decides whether an order was a success or failure. I think in the case of supports it might determine whether it was successful based on whether the move being supported was successful (can't remember exactly)

So don't worry about whether orders are crossed or not, if everything turned out right it's pretty certain that the support was acted on correctly. (So I'd say "small error" in a nutshell)

Timmi88: The rules specifically say that the support is not cut in order to avoid a paradox. Namely, if I had had only one of Adr and Alb supporting, whether the convoy could cut the support from Naples or failed before it could cut the support. In other words, yes, the convoy succeeded, but it could not cut this particular support because of the above rule.

kestasjk: That's what I thought, a small error; or at least I hoped so. It's good to know. I know there are the Diplomacy adjudicator test cases, but this just looked fishy. Thanks.

It was adjudicated correctly.

Had there only been one support hold, there would have been a paradox, one that I believe would have resulted in the dislodging of Turkey's fleet. But since the move never could have succeeded, with the two support holds, the convoy succeeded, and the convoy therefore cut support.

rlumley: "Although the resolution of my game is unaffected" -- me
Seriously, read the thread before you post! Of course it was adjudicated properly. And your interpetation of the rules is incorrect. The rule I quoted overrules other rules. Do you need me to elaborate?

Heh... Yeah. I read the first few words of the rule that you posted, and thought it was a different rule. Don't I look like an idiot. My bad.

Bimodal Statistical Analysis
The statistics thread made me think of this. For awhile, I've been trying to find some form of T-Test to do on a highly bimodal distribution (My family's bridge scores) to determine conclusively what probability exists that my brother and I are better than our parents. Does anyone know how to do this?

Is email notification of turns and PMs on the to-do list? Is it a priority?

It sure would cut down on NMRs for those of us who don't WANT to NMR but have very busy lives.....

a question aboot the phpLeagues...
Considering the point scoring is 12/n for an n-way draw, and 12 for a solo (so 6 for a two-way draw, and 4 for a 3-way, 2 for a 6-way... maybe some fractions for 7/5 way draws) There are precisely 48 D to be won by each league. What is a likely distribution of point?

WARNING: DON'T PLAY WITH "MASTERNINJA"
Just a friendly word to all: Avoid playing with "masterninja" at all costs. I hate to ever call someone out publicly or make a scene, but this guy really deserves it. Any game that he does not win, he will call the winner out for metagaming and try to get their account banned by the mods. He makes asshole remarks and just takes the overall fun out of a pleasant game. Avoid at all costs. Also, mods, please look in to banning this player. Many thanks.
