Minor Bug Report
When changing a move order that had a "via land" clause, to a support move order, the drop down for the "via" clauses persisted, bring a messagebox regarding "What did you just update?" I just set to hold and updated to clear it. Not a significant issue., but thought you might want to know.

For those slow days on the forum...
I've been on the forum for quite a while and i noticed that even when 90+ people are logged the forum isn't really active.
So this thread is for the times when you have nothing else to say... just a conversation.

Support Moves
Is anyone else having trouble supporting convoys? I have an ally who is trying to support a convoy move and he says it's not giving him the option. I tested this in one of my games to see if the option would come up, and it's not giving me the option to either.

Any of you able to support a convoy move (not convoy, but support the army from one land to the new land)?

I am curious to know who the most popular.

I've looked at coding this game myself as it's ideal for both game logic and distributed network problem solving.
I played briefly on playdip before joining this site and found almost no communication ( ie. lots of noobs) and a difficult map response.

Here's one for you all: has anyone explored the possibility of using Voip for scheduled live games? Skype controls would be perfect for group discussions etc.
Of course there would be a problem with people possibly recording each others conversations and playing them back as an act of espionage / betrayal !!
Oh, by the way, I meant that as a compliment to the guys who built this site. Well done!

urallLESBIANS, I think the reason for the lack of communication on WorldLeaders is that the interface is so unwieldy for it. You can't send global chats, for example, you can only send chats to all the players individually. There IS an IM, which is cool, but no one seems to use it.
As for PlayDip, I like that it has a click interface, as does WorldLeaders. I prefer that to WebDip's select-update-select-update interface, but I can understand why they went with that system instead of a click interface which must add significant overhead (WorldLeaders in particular can get SLOW on the redraws).

I like webdiplomacy is number one, according to Alexa at least.

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/www.webdiplomacy.net
Percent of global Internet users who visit webdiplomacy.net:
Yesterday 0.0014%
7 day avg 0.0008%
1 month avg 0.00067%
3 month avg 0.00044%
3 month change 19000%

Now apparently there about 1.6 billion internet users in the world. That would mean that in terms of actual numbers of people the figures look like this:

yesterday 22,400
7 day average 12,800
3 month average 7,040

Compare this with the next most popular site:

Percent of global Internet users who visit playdiplomacy.com:
7 day avg 0.00024%
1 month avg 0.00042%
3 month avg 0.00047%

yesterday 3,840
7 day average 6,720
3 month average 7,520

To be honest the actual number seem like they might be a bit high.
When Alexa says "Percent of global Internet users", does it mean the total number of internet users of the total number of "daily internet users". The latter would be a lower number.

I admit that the communication interface on worldleaders isn't as simple as here, but I can't see how that would discourage communication. If anything that system helps a bit. I barely ever send global messages on either site, except for a few important issues. I find that most global chat is just simple conversation.

Unfortunately on this site, if you want to send a similar message to multiple allies. You have to copy and past the same message. On world leaders, you can just send it to multiple recipients. I do not see how either system discourages or encourages communication.

I believe that better players are attracted to this site, and encouraged to communicate, in games and on the forum. On world leaders, even some of the best players don't communicate as much as most average players here. So new players don't feel it is essential. Its just the people.

We don't get a lot of talking going between us in the game we are playing in...
JECE (1322 D)

obiwanobiwan: Yes, but remember this site used to be at www.phpdiplomacy.com. Alexa doesn't transfer data from one website to another. Look at all the statistics spyman gave. A lot of those are for over 3 months, and we moved after that. And as I and now spyman mentioned, the statistics do show us in the lead, despite the ranking.

Damn, I had updated everything again, but it didn't go through. Anyway:
www.playdiplomacy.com: 172,287
webdiplomacy.net: 177,170
So close!!!!
spyman (424 D(G))

That ranking is based on a three month average I think. As Draugnar pointed out earlier if phpdiplomacy stats were included, webdiplomacy would rank somewhere above playdiplomacy.

Ha ha ha, well, at least they exist!
And wow, BOUNCED's rank has dropped 5,192,681 places since my first post! It is at 11,849,130 now.

Victory is ours! Even with their better SEO skills, we trump playdip in almost every other facet. =)

More importantly though, I think the most skilled online players are here at phpDip, though it'd be great to have an inter-site tournament represented by the best of each site.

I currently consider statistics from www.alexa.com for BOUNCED (www.dipbounced.com), phpDiplomacy (www.phpdiplomacy.net), www.stabbeurfou.org, PLAYdiplomacy (www.playdiplomacy.com), WorldLeaders the Game (www.worldleadersthegame.com) and webDiplomacy (webdiplomacy.net).
