How do tournaments work

Basically it's a large gathering of diplomacy players with the chief purpose of making the tournament director's life as miserable as possible for several months in a row. At the end of it all a winner is declared, whose achievements will live long in the memory of whoever came second, but instantly forgotten by almost everyone else.

If people want to run a tournament we're seriously going to say no not out of concern for the rules or the layout, but because it might conflict with a tournament that only 50 some people out of the 1,429 currently in games can even participate in? Unless the tournament you are referring to isn't the super exclusive 1 v 1 tournament?

And then...what is this?

Could we maybe get someone who CAN "go into details regarding the many thought processes of the mod team" like an admin to comment on upcoming tournaments instead of just cryptic mod posts and childish dismissals?

A FP tournament sounds awesome, I'm in if one starts for sure.

I expect there will be an announcement soon.

If you want more info, you should ask the TDs not the admins. We just try to facilitate those who wish to devote there spare time to hosting tourneys.

There's some ongoing discussions with a couple of people, and an FP tournament will probably start next month. Does that suffice?

Why are the mods being weirdos about this? We haven't had a FP tournament since World Cup over a year ago and people are just curious about when the next one is.

Please count me in for an ODC 2018. If it started in January it would have a chance of ending before 2020.

ODC 2017 is still ongoing on PlayDiplomacy. I think they might not be too happy about another one running in parallel.

Like I said, signups definitely won't start next week :-/
