Convoy question
If an army is being convoyed into territory A by a fleet in sea B and is supported into A by another unit, what happens if a fleet in Territory A is supported into Sea B?

Do they bounce because of equal force, or does the fleet from A dislodge the fleet in B before the convoy is successful?

high-level gunboat - any interest?
I'd like to play a game with, say, folks who are in the top 50 gunboat players according to the ghostratings. Would we be able to put a game together?

A prealliance WW1 mock?
Does this sound balanced or does it need work? Obviously it doesn't require actual diplomacy but I just wanted to think about the map and how well it correlates to WW1.

Rules:
-Serbia and Holland are the only SC's that are allowed to be taken on turn 1
-Galicia, and the Black Sea are to be left empty until the fall of 1901
-Tyrolia and the Adriatic Sea must be left empty until the spring of 1902
-Italy cannot take any SC besides Tunis until the year 1902. Additionally Italy cannot enter any sea zones besides Ionian and Tyrrhenian until 1902. Italy enters conflict in 1902.

Win Conditions:
Allies: Germany and Austria fall
Axis: England and any 1 other power fall.
Special Conditions:
In the year 1904 if Russia has less territory than it started out with or if Moscow is lost then they are considered out of the game and must make hold orders from then on.
In the event of a stalemate line if one side has 8 more total SC's then that is the victor. Otherwise it is a draw.

So Turkey falling has no effect on the win conditions?
jalwiz (100 D)

Yeah the axis just loses a major ally, kind of like real life.
jalwiz (100 D)

I think this sounds good. If you modified the years a little, and get the US involved (with military bases perhaps) it could be even more realistic.
jalwiz (100 D)

Also, the axis vs allies was WW2. In WW1 it was the alliance vs the entente. And the entente are the British/Russia/France.

Thanks for the advice I am going to work on it and see what I can come up with.

Interesting concept. There's actually a similar two player world war one variant in the rulebook - I think it involves flipping a coin at the top of 1902 to see which side Italy joins. This is a cool idea but it's pretty hopeless for the Axis. There is no way England will ever fall because the Axis lacks the ability to build the fleets need to take the isle.

Generally the way this game goes is that Germany will get crushed in the early game and then slowly the Allies will punch through the center and the med to grind down Austria. The Axis may achieve the occasional draw by taking enough of Russia and Italy to make it possible to set up a stalemate line that keeps Austria from being knocked out. Russia will take a beating early on, and the one advantage the Axis has is the ability to knock Russia out of the war by taking Moscow, but even if that is accomplished, the best the Axis can hope for is a draw and they need to take most of Italy to do it.

One twist that would help balance the game: let the Axis count centers as a single nation, so it can use the builds that Turkey picks up to put down pieces in Germany. And allow Germany to count taken neutral centers as home centers, so it can put more armies in the north down at the same year. I still don't see how it will ever be possible to conquer England, but this would give Germany more of a fighting chance. Although Germany is always going to have a hard time finding open centers to build since it will be facing a three-nation attack immediately and will need to keep its centers garrisoned.

You're right Germany has problems if it had Holland and Denmark off the bat it would be a bit more fair in terms of lasting it out long enough for Russia to fall.

Very nice idea! There's actually a variant of Diplomacy called 1915 that tries to replicate WWI. But I like your version better.

That being said, I have a few questions and concerns regarding your variant. (I'll comment on your points one by one, as I see fit.)

You say that Galicia and the Black Sea must be left vacant until Fall, 1901. Does this mean that players can still move to those territories earlier so long as they are bounced? (This includes all territories that must be vacant until some specified time.)

Why is it that only Germany and Austria-Hungary must fall for the Allies to win? Doesn't this make Turkey somewhat irrelevant?

Why must England be one of the Allied Powers to fall for the Axis Powers to win?

Lastly, if I understand this correctly, in the event of a stalemate, should one team have at least eight more supply centers than the other, they win. Am I correct?

1: They cannot be bounced.
2: Your right didn't think that through.

Waustin (0 D X)

3: Maybe England or France would be better.
4: Yes but I thought about scrapping that an adding a time limit for the axis to win. Before America would interfere and win it for the allies.

@Waustin
I actually played a WWI-themed game of Diplomacy a while ago (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=196051#gamePanel). To win the game, teammates had to eliminate the other team.

Italy is a "free agent", and has the choice of allying with either team.

Reading about anti-fa and communist resistance in Auschwitz.

Were they culpulable collavorators who didn't do enough to save the many executed? Or did they do as much as anyone could be expected to do in resisting Nazi power and surviving the camp? https://libcom.org/history/life-centurys-midnight
