How to bet 0 not taking over CD
You make two accounts, after one is banned, you ask the moderator to still play in the game with the second, so in effect taking over cd from yourself, it is allowed to do it on this site - example as a france http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=196322

Clean wood energy
All this talk about clean coal. Why bother digging up energy when we have so much wood ABOVE ground! As a bonus, we get more farmland. Let's retrain coal miners to be lumberjacks!

I want to see a Coke ad where a Kendall Jenner look-a-like tries to stop a riot by presenting a can of Pepsi. After a dramatic pause in the melee, both sides ask her, "You got Coke?" [Then they resume fighting].

Cal 1...... I just don't understand why we use Integrals to solve for volume....
JamesYanik (548 D)

what you should be asking yourself is why you have to memorize so much damn stuff when in any real-world scenario or job, memorization is near pointless, and will occur naturally over time and with repetition, and also forcing it into your head now is detracting from your ability to tackle the conceptual side of mathematics, which is where we need advancements the most.
Integrals are the area under a curve....A volume is an area in 3 Dimensions

Perhaps he actually wanted to take calculus and learn next-level problem solving skills.

i passed the AP test, but that wasn't because of problem-solving skills, that was purely through memorizing en masse formulas and equations.

i'm good at internalizing this stuff, but i'm naturally gifted at math. the way math is taught in school is a bit of a joke tho

the death of college: pursuit of grades instead of knowledge. why even go to college?
JECE (1322 D)
24 Apr 17 UTC
CAPT Brad: Maybe, just maybe, you can find your answer in the core requirements that most colleges enforce.
JamesYanik (548 D)
24 Apr 17 UTC
my core requirements demand that as an Economics major, i have to take a certain number of credit hours in diversity and culture classes.

because this is not about being prepared for the job market or to be able to innovate and pursue your own career. It is truly about indoctrination and trying to keep kids tied to academia for as long as possible.

James Yanik: I don't agree. Taking varied courses is good in a liberal college education. Unless you go to a technical college (which you don't), you should be taking courses outside your major(s) that reflect your interests and vision of yourself. It's being forced to take particular courses that is problematic.
JamesYanik (548 D)
25 Apr 17 UTC
the problems is that technical colleges don't generally have superior courses in STEM fields, when compared to higher-end liberal colleges. Given that i'm paying tuition, i'd like to have control of my course schedule. Even if i simply didn't get a degree but was proficient in the fields i were studying then i'd be satisfied, but the college system is not designed that way. Rather i must either accept a mediocre standard of teaching for a good price, or in my case i'm working my ass off in an attempt to get a better quality job after i graduate.

meanwhile i'm not against all these classes being offered, or against the basis of kids circling back into academia. rather having these as requirements to have a major in economics seems a bit of a non-sequitur, UNLESS there is a separate agenda, beyond simply education of the students in the fields they want to explore.

this is frequently the case in modern colleges, who are always on the search for kids to stick with the university long term. this may be against the wishes of some students, but i happens all the same.

long live the reptilian overlord liberal agenda

James Yanik: Or your Economics Department tries to put up stupid barriers to try and weed out candidates.
JECE (1322 D)

CAPT Brad (40 DX)

they should do the weeding out before they are admitted to college. oh! that was an anti-diversity remark! College has ceased to be the vessel to pass on civilization. now it is a thought police mill
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
25 Apr 17 UTC
and the great crime is that you have to mortgage your future in student loans for the privilege to be indoctrinated.
For somebody who uses calculus every day (engineering) I remember shockingly little about it...
JamesYanik (548 D)
25 Apr 17 UTC
i don't think the econ department is deciding this, but it's still obnoxious. i think it's a requirement for all students in college of A&S but still. obnoxious.

still, it was fun to see the safespaces and #resist in chalk after election day. and i don't even consider my college to be excessively liberal. it's private and in Oklahoma. that's redder than a Frank Miller meets Zack Snyder movie extravaganza
JECE (1322 D)
25 Apr 17 UTC
CAPT Brad: I'm sure you would like the time when colleges claimed to be vessels that passed on the pseudoscience of 'white civilization'.

Game Start Date - any way to know?
I know you can see the date a game finished, but is there a way to look and see when it started? I am curious to see how long a game took to finish in real time.

I looked for this for a while, so I'm the dunce if someone immediately points this out...
