Perhaps a better title would be "WW1 alternate history game?" I don't think anybody outside the pacifist diplomacy game would like to wait 14 years for the game to start

Other details include the fact that it's SoS, so while you're not at war with the members of your respective alliance, you still are competing for supply centers to increase your share of the pot when the game draws.
In other versions of this that I've played, one alliance must be killed off, but I'm not set on playing that way. Any other clarifications ot questions?

Let me see if I understand everything that's been said.

Each Great Nation plays as part of a team, which is reminiscent of the teams during the Great War—Triple Entente versus Central Powers. Italy plays alone, but gets to choose sides at some point. And each Great Power plays to maximize his share of the pot by capturing supply centres, which cannot belong to teammates.

I definitely want to play, so please sign me up. I think it would also be nice if any clarifications during the game be made in the global chat. The bet to join should also be pretty low, just to encourage players to play.

When I played, I was italy, and I got stabbed by the French after helping with the central powers. If I were to play Italy again, I'd make sure to play the alliances against one another better.

In the game I played, there was no communication between rival great powers unless through global chat. I think back channel negotiation between rivals might make things interesting but I don't know how other players would feel about it. I think that once everybody has joined we can vote on how to play before we do anything?

I'm fine with that. I'm not sure how historically accurate we are going to be about this. Ha-ha! But I don't mind if there is a little bit of role-playing for each Great Power. I would love to see Germany trying out some kind of Schlieffen Plan.

Exactly. As it stands with no comms, Russia and Germany​ both get wrecked almost immediately. Back channel negotiation might make it easier for the game to vary a little bit.

I do agree. Perhaps negotiation between enemies might be acceptable under certain conditions, just to avoid really bad inevitabilities.

I played a few WW1 simulations and from my experience Germany and Russia are doomed from the start like it was mentioned in posts before.

Russia has better chance to survive if it can take Scandinavian centres because they are on the other side of the stalemate line and Austria/Turkey cannot reach them. Germany is pretty much helpless unless it receives boost from its allies.

Only way for Germany/Russia to have a chance is to have arangement with their allies to take important centers. Scandinavia for Russia, and Warsaw+Moscow+Sevastopol. Austria in that case support Germany with armies and helps Turkey in med with fleets.

Does Italy lose the power to converse with everyone when they choose a side?

Italy remains a free agent for the entire game. Essentially it's a regular game for them, and whatever flip-flopping that entails.

Since we have 7 players, let's all try to decide on the couple of points that are still up in the air.
Do we allow press between enemies?
Do we insist on one alliance being eliminated before a draw can be established?

This is where multiple -player press like over on Backstabbr would be ideal... Given that you can't ally with the other team in any way, I think I'm of the opinion that you should be able to send them press. I can't really say how it would be useful...
