Was Jesus a Vampire?
I was curious, if Jesus was a vampire, like most scholars now assume; was he malkavian, ventrue, brujah, toreador, nosferatu or tremere?

Hey guys
I am redhouse, I used to play and debate here. I might play and debate again. But I have another question: Who knows a lot about C++? I may have some questions that seem trivial to those who know.

How does muting work?
I've never muted someone in a game before. Therefore, I am quite ignorant about how it works. Clearly if player A is muted by player B, B won't receive any messages from A while they're muted. What happens when B unmutes A? Do all the messages A sent to B while B had A muted suddenly appear, or are they lost forever?

New game Classic
Just went to a FTF tourney. Was fun. Want to play some more classic using the standard tourney rules (except of course 1 Day turns instead of 12 minutes).

Set it at 101d to filter for more reliable players. If that's too steep but you like the rest, chime in here, and I will make a new one with lower bet.

Unfortunately, I think there are too many entrenched and powerful interests who will stop at nothing - including slaughtering billions - to prevent the dissolution of nation-states. But I hope and pray it does happen, someday.

I was arguing about this with a few webdippers the other night actually. I consider myself a global citizen so I'm all about open border movements and trade agreements and essentially anything that brings citizens together and undermines sovereignty. I think we're a long ways away and recent protectionism moves is a bit of a set back, but I eventually think we'll get there.

In the US, the forces of Communism and Fascism will come to blows in my lifetime. There are no alternatives I see developing here at least.

I think we were better off with empires. The tying of ethnicity to state is what fucked us; I am fine with many nations subservient to a state. I think we lost a good idea with the deaths of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires.

Colonialism also, I think, is underrated. I think there are aspects of it we might want to look back to.
I agree. By the time we start serious space exploration and colonization, we will have one world government. And our planet will be the center of a new galactic empire.

@Matticus I don't think you're right. Communism is, basically dead. And the fascism we see now seems generally favourable to UBI, universal healthcare, etc. I think we're seeing a general realignment of ideology and the words "capitalist" and "communist" and "fascist" are starting to lose meaning in a contemporary context.

I suppose if Communism wins, nation states could potentially be a thing of the past.

So brutality towards people of other races was fucked. But I think we have replaced colonialism with something much worse.

It used to be, when we exploited Indian labour, we were responsible for it. We governed there, they were our client state. Any horrors were the fault of the people who consumed their goods.

Under globalism, we have outsourced ethical responsibility. We can use as much sweatshop labour as we want and pin the responsibility on oligarchs we helped put in place.

I think an enlightened colonialism may have been better than what we replaced it with.

The socialist tendencies of the Democratic party will continue to drift further left in response to the Alt-right IMO. I could be wrong of course.

Anti-colonialism gave rise to nationalism, in my opinion. The right of people of a certain ethnicity to self-determination as a group. We used to live in a world where your ethnic affiliation and your political one were totally distinct, and you didn't give a shit that the King lived far away and spoke another language.
Durga (3609 D)

@ Cond

Most ridiculous argument I've heard. There was no ethical responsibility to treating the global south as slaves, and there will never be any "enlightened colonialism" as it is built on identity and racial lines and only useful to white colonialists who exploited others.

While I agree the current state of things is not good, I do not think the white man's burden bullshit is better - it is definitely worse. Just because the current state is bad, does not justify colonialism - and these two options are far from the only options this world has. Literally never suggest that to anyone ever again. I can still see the destruction the English has done to my country every time I go back and visit. You know absolutely nothing.
@demon - what about colonialism in the context of sending colonists to other planets?
Durga (3609 D)
31 Jan 17 UTC
Nationalism existed before colonialism, the only thing anti-colonialism movement is give those who were subject to preverted colonialists the ability to stand up for themselves and their right to govern themselves. Hailing the British Empire is just as nationalist as hailing the United Kingdom.
Condescension (10 D)

@Demon Fair enough. It's an idea I've been playing with for a bit but I've got a feeling you're probably right.

I'd like to further clarify my comments a bit. Capitalism in the US will die in my lifetime. Technology is advancing so quickly, most people won't have jobs. Technology will be much more efficient and cost much less than people. People won't be able to consume the products that capitalism requires to survive. It will all come to a head eventually. The haves, who wish continue to control society, vs the people. I generally associate those in power as preferring Facsim, and the people Communism. Just my theory/expectation.

However: I don't think hailing the BE is the same as hailing the UK. The BE had no ethnic grounding whatsoever. What I regret is the solution of ethnicisty and state.

I support a one-world government and the BE was our best shot at something close to that.
Durga (3609 D)

I support a one-world government as well, but one that is build on ethical cooperation and mutual human prosperity - not off the backs of oppression and hatred. That is not a just and good world.

Condescension (10 D)

Sorry, that was @Matticus

@Demon I think a colonial state would have an easier time transitioning to an ethical world state than a huge number of ethnic nation-states.

@ Conde I'm sure you'd be okay with the Chinese taking over the rest of the world and subjecting them to labour and arbitrary laws and ripping our customs apart because ultimately they might be so stripped of any human dignity that there would be no objections to this "one world". I do not believe the ends justify the means.
Matticus13 (2844 D)
31 Jan 17 UTC
@Condescension: That's the future I described if Communism wins. The catch is, it has to win.
Condescension (10 D)
31 Jan 17 UTC
@Demon I guess what I should be saying is:

I regret that the British Empire collapsed, and I wish it had become enlightened and integrated its colonies instead. Pretty shitty that it colonised in the first place but the solution was not correct.

I'm not sure I believe this but I'm not sure I don't believe this.
