I'm starting college on Monday.

I'm majoring in computer science, and may also potentially dual major in that and mathematics. Any advice about either of the majors or college in general? Thanks.

"Burkini" Bans in France

Apparently, France is banning all sorts of religious garb, specifically targeting Muslim women, in the name of personal freedom and cultural values. Critics claim that hijabs, burkas, and other similar face or head coverings are repressive of women and are not fitting with the culture of openness in Western Europe. Thoughts?

What happens when you mute someone?

In a game. Do they notice this? Does it return their messages to sender? What if you unmute them later, do you suddenly receive all messages sent in between?

"Conservatism" and military spending

Something that puzzles me. A lot of people who call themselves conservative are generally big on pushing the small-government, "tax is theft" line. At the same time many of those same people are huge supporters of the armed forces.

How is decided which nation I get in a game?

I couldn't find an answer to this in the FAQ section.
When entering a new game, does the system distribute the nations to the players randomly? How is it decided who gets which nation? Is there a possible way of influencing the distribution, setting up preferences etc. or is it always totally random?

Fall of the Amer Empire Map?

Hi. Is there something wrong with the Quebec spawns in this map? I'm trying to create a unit on certain centers that doesn't have a enemy move on them, but it wont let me. I can never spawn a unit on greenland for example.

gameID=18197 there was no bounce - why?

As England in gameID=18197 I'm pretty devistated about the outcome of the moves in Spring 1906 and I don't understand why my unit got dislodged

To recall here, the orders were

England:
Nor-Swe with support from SKA
BAR-Nor

Russia:
StP-Nor with support from Swe
GOB support hold Swe

There were two armies with strength 2 fighting Swe/Nor, I've ever imagined a supporting unit as "doubling the men fighting in that battle". If an attack from the other direction occurs, the supporting men will have to defend themselves - so far so good. But when the attack comes from the same direction as the enemy is already standing, the support shouldn't been cut?

To make it short, I honestly don't unterstand why there was no bounce in the movements Nor-Swe and StP-Nor

I can't find the game you're talking about, but the key here is that an attacking unit can't cut support to its own province unless it dislodges the supporting unit. Sweden wasn't dislodged because of Bothnia's support, and the result was its own support succeeding in dislodging an unsupported Norway.

gameID=181971 is the game- and ghug's answer is correct. Norway can't break the support from Sweden, because Sweden is supporting an attack on Norway.

Say you have unit A and your enemy has units B and C.

If B supports C to attack A, and A attacks B, the support from B is not cut, and C will still dislodge A. That is the situation here.

Norway cannot cut support from any unit (Sweden) that is supporting another unit (St. Petersburg) to attack Norway. However, if you had instead hit Sweden with SKA, Russia wouldn't have taken Norway because the support from Sweden would have been cut.

I know it seems paradoxical that SKA supporting Norway to Sweden doesn't cut the Swedish support but attacking Sweden with SKA directly does cut the support, but that is how it is.

See it this way: Your attack had a strength of 2, but so was the strength of the defense, so your attack was unsuccessful. Russia's attack, however, had a strength of 2 (because you cannot cut support from provinces that are supporting against you if you don't dislodge them) and your defense had a strength of 1, so the Russian attack was successful.
By the way, since the game you talk about is anonymous, better post these questions anonymous as well in the future.

But Norway itself is only defended by one unit

(Either Barents or Norway)
