Statistics for ModernDiplomacyII
Is there any statistics about how common is the win by solos. Which nations has the most wins, and who the least wins. And statistics like that.
And also, in general, which variants would you say are the most played, and why?. Any thoughts?.

2016 Australian Federal Election
Well Malcolm Turnbull is visiting the Governor General, so an election is imminent, and probably a "double dissolution" election with the full Senate being dissolved, not half as is usually the case

UK Politics
We have had an elected Head-of_State since forever, we've had a Prime Minister elected with something like 25% of electorate and now he is standing down to be replaced by new PM that no one elected. Home of democracy? I think not.

In the case of a Labour split, the left is boned. Under the FPTP system the split would mean the Tories would win by a landslide. They would then claim they had a mandate to pursue their conservative policies to your great distaste.

Many of the MPs attempting to oust Corbyn do not constitute what I'd call "the left".

Angela Eagle has a track record of supporting war and imperialism. She supported the Iraq war, campaigned against an independent inquiry into said war, cheered for the bombing of Syria and is nuts about nukes.

Owen Smith has enthusiastically supported the regime of sanctions and work capacity assessments for vulnerable disabled people on benefits.

These people are not socialists.

This resignation bullshit aimed at the Corbyn haters is utter shite. Frankly any political party who elects a leader that simply cannot work with 75% of his colleagues can all go and fuck themselves because they don't deserve representation.
Maybe all of those who want a return to good old Socialism should fuck off and join create a Socialist Party instead.

Corbyn is a disgrace because he got a mandate from his membership then thumbed his nose at the very people who have to work with him and enact his policies on the floor of parliament. Obviously not a very smart cookie.

A modern Western democracy needs to have a viable alternative government that is capable of actually being elected to government. All Corbyn has done is gone "GEE I'M POPULAR - ALL YOU KIDS WHO WERE MEAN TO ME CAN NOW SUCK IT UP" and people wonder why they've all gone "NO - FUCK YOU!" after he behaved like a 2 year with zero social skills.

Your Labour guys need a dose of our good old Graham Richardson and his "whatever it takes" mentality. You can only enact change from a position of power. Corbyn has been busy squandering it from the moment he was elected.

Fuck him. He could well condemn Britain to another decade of Conservative rule, because no one in their right mind will elect a government lead by him.
Jamiet99uk (25 D)

@ Wusti: "thumbed his nose at the very people who have to work with him"

When did he do this? What particular speech or act are you referring to?
Wusti (1335 D)
13 Jul 16 UTC
So being Socialist but unelectable makes him what exactly? The principled loser doesn't get his policies enacted, he's just masterbating in public.
Jamiet99uk (25 D)
13 Jul 16 UTC
He isn't unelectable. Over a quarter of a million people elected him as Labour leader. Since he became leader Labour has won every by-election it contested, and in three out of those four elections, Labour increased its majority.
Jamiet99uk (25 D)

Presumably, Wusti, you also think that all political parties apart from Labour and the Conservatives should be abolished?
Wusti (1335 D)
13 Jul 16 UTC
(+1)
Not at all - and everyone knows that bi-elections (which don't change governments) swing against the incumbent - and if they were already Labour - well who cares?

Saying that for democracy to actually serve the interests of the people you must have an electable alternative is far from saying that you need to abolish all parties. In modern British history, that alternative has been Labour.

Again, its the principle that if you can't get elected or close enough that the others have to shadow your policies (much like the Liberals have had to follow a Labor opposition in Australia), then what is the point?
Political power should only be a means to an end, and not an end in itself: you can stay on your soapbox in Hyde Park if your only aim is to make sure people know about your belief system.
So if the voice of the Left becomes unelectable, then by default, Conservative policies are enacted, not progressive, and certainly not socialist ones. So who wins really?

Wusti, on what basis do you claim that Jeremy Corbyn, who was resoundingly ELECTED as the leader of the Labour Party, and who has DOUBLED the membership of the party, is "unelectable" ?

What is the basis of your claim?

"Wusti, on what basis do you claim that Jeremy Corbyn, who was resoundingly ELECTED as the leader of the Labour Party, and who has DOUBLED the membership of the party, is "unelectable"?"

Sorry, but growth of party membership from less than 0.3% of the national population to a somewhat over 0.6%, even when its combined with relative popularity among that 0.6%, falls short of electability on its own.

Besides this, what new supporters is Corbyn going to bring in to overcome the Conservatives? Is he going to increase turnout of Labour supporters who haven't voted previously (plausible, but is it sufficient?) or by siphoning off support from the Greens (don't know how likely that is)? Or is he going get soft Tory supporters to come over to him (I have trouble imagining that)? Or is he going to bank on a swath of Tory supporters staying home or deserting to UKIP (again, I have trouble imagining those scenarios in the present environment)?

I don't think the lack of support among MPs necessarily makes him unelectable or that people care about internal party wrangling nearly as much as the media does. In fact, I rather suspect they don't care about it much at all during the off-season away from elections. If Corbyn survives this challenge, the party will either split or heal itself (my money would be on the latter). However, if Corbyn does survive and then later manages to form government with a PLP of the sort that he's facing now, he may find himself being reminded of his own history of dissent -- only from the other side of the leadership divide.

@ Maniac...wot Jamiet99uk said re Queen Betty 2...Head of State is a hereditary caper, it's the Government that's chosen in a democratic fashion.

The citizens of the UK behave in all sorts of illogical ways, so why shouldn't the system of Government be partially illogical as well ???

Nominate a perfect democratic system of Government.... that's right there's none in existence... Stop whining and start contributing to incremental change for improvement... Oh that's right, that'd involve thinking and hard work.... So much easier to whinge from the comfy armchair on the sidelines
Maniac (344 D (B))

@majormitchell - I agree that's all democratic systems have pros and cons, but we shouldn't just accept a terrible system like House of Lords and first past the post because other systems are not perfect.

I'm trying to push for PR for local council elections as the main benefit of footprint I've having a link between your area and your councillor don't apply so much in local elections as all candidates have to come from the same wider district. I'm also advocating my party refuses to take up seats in House of Lords, SNP haven't for years, if all other parties refused to take up seats, particularly Labour, then the system will have to be overhauled.

I'm going to say that if everyone except the Tories boycotted the House of Lords, there would be no change whatsoever because the Tories would rather like to keep their upper house 'veto'.

Meaning of "no in-game messaging"
First-time player question: if a game has a "no in-game messaging" setting, does that mean there's no communication between the players at all? Or is there just a specific kind of messaging the players should/should not use?

*Apologies if this is answered somewhere in the rules or another thread; couldn't find it specifically anywhere.
