Considering there was a post about Pokemon GO, ...
I'd like some advice about if it would be good to purchase a Russian Dragon's of Tarkir booster box for about $100 USD? Shipping prices don't matter, as my friend is in Russia at the moment (he is the one actually buying this, and is wondering if he should).

Statistics for ModernDiplomacyII
Is there any statistics about how common is the win by solos. Which nations has the most wins, and who the least wins. And statistics like that.
And also, in general, which variants would you say are the most played, and why?. Any thoughts?.

Well Malcolm Turnbull is visiting the Governor General, so an election is imminent, and probably a "double dissolution" election with the full Senate being dissolved, not half as is usually the case

UK Politics
We have had an elected Head-of_State since forever, we've had a Prime Minister elected with something like 25% of electorate and now he is standing down to be replaced by new PM that no one elected. Home of democracy? I think not.

I did not know that democracy can be abused and fail even in Britain so badly...

I think it is time for Prince Charles to step in and save the country from the leadership crisis, only challenge he has now is the Queen as there is no one in power in the government. It is his best opportunity :)

Democracy fails every time someone doesn't get what he wants and is sore about it... like you!

"I think it is time for Prince Charles to step in..."

I hope this is satire. You're concerned about the democratic process, so you want an unelected royal to seize power? He'd never have the bottle anyway, and nobody would support him.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

I have to ask:
What is "He'd never have the bottle" supposed to mean? Can bottle be replaced with guts without changing the meaning?
Never heard that one before.
"What is "He'd never have the bottle" supposed to mean? Can bottle be replaced with guts without changing the meaning?

Me either. I'm not sure if it's from UK English and we don't have it in America or if it's from Autocorrect English and no one but Apple has ever had it.

It is British.

http://www.haveyougotthebottle.org.uk/
But what does it mean? I'm not sure how to connect a website promoting the approval-worthy recycling of recyclables to what Jamie said.
leon1122 (190 D)
12 Jul 16 UTC
Prince Charles doesn't recycle, so the British people, environmentally-conscious as they are, would never support him.

Also, to 'bottle it' is to lose your nerve at the crucial moment. Often used in sport eg player misses a short putt for the title, tennis player serving for the match gets broken, russia thinks about going for the solo but then gets panicky and takes the 3way draw.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

What Paul said. Yes, steephie it's a British expression which more or less means having (or not having) "guts".
paulyork64 (351 D)
12 Jul 16 UTC
As to the origin, i've done a bit of googling and i'm still not sure. Some suggestion it dates from 1800's which might explain why its unfamiliar in north america.
LeonWalras (865 D)

Prince Charles may not recycle, but he is an avid fan of nature. As you may know, in between royal duties, he has also become quite the accomplished fine artist. He likes to combine these two passions by painting majestic scenes from the natural world.

Sometimes he'll paint a whole series of fox hunts through woodland in winter, or often simply a pod of whales silhouetted against the setting sun. The latter series of paintings can be purchased as a set of prints, aptly titled The Prince of Wales' Prints of Whales.

Its my understanding that the phrase "lose your bottle" arises from the cockney rhyming slang "bottle and glass = arse". To "lose your arse" means losing control of your bowels - that is, being so scared or nervous that you'd shit yourself.
Thanks to paul and Jamie for the information. I never knew that.

Also, on what paul said:
"to 'bottle it' is to lose your nerve at the crucial moment. Often used in sport eg player misses a short putt for the title, tennis player serving for the match gets broken, russia thinks about going for the solo but then gets panicky and takes the 3way draw."
Over here in the States, the metaphor for this kind of situation is "to choke." I kind of like "to bottle it," though. Do y'all use both in the UK, or just "to bottle it"?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
13 Jul 16 UTC
Using 'to choke' seems needlessly confusing, especially in sports. Since, you know, someone could actually choke as well.
Fair point, steephie, but the context usually makes it clear.

For example, "he choked on the 18th green" is unlikely to conjure in anyone's mind an image of a PGA type attempting to fit the pin end of an entire golf hole into his esophagus but accidentally aspirating it instead. Likewise, "she choked on her gum" is unlikely to be interpreted as anything but some poor female getting her trachea blocked with a piece of gum.

If all you say is simply "he choked" without any further qualification, then the surrounding conversation should make it clear. If it's a medical setting, it's probably being used to talk about someone who couldn't breathe. If it's used during a conversation about a game, chances are fair the speaker means that someone couldn't close things out successfully.

I don't know the etymology.

OS - yes choking and bottling interchangeable in the sporting context. I suppose there is a tangible difference in nerves causing you to make a mistake and nerves causing you to make a decision to do or not do something. Id use bottling it in both contexts even tho theyre different.

I believe in this thread there was the claim that the pound had stabilized and would be stabilized. Oh boy has it stabilized. Onto a path of downward decline.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

Wow that *has* declined a lot. Now 1.20 euros according to google.
So glad that I have no pound assets right now :-)

It will rise at some point though.

Meaning of "no in-game messaging"
First-time player question: if a game has a "no in-game messaging" setting, does that mean there's no communication between the players at all? Or is there just a specific kind of messaging the players should/should not use?

*Apologies if this is answered somewhere in the rules or another thread; couldn't find it specifically anywhere.
