I'd like some advice about if it would be good to purchase a Russian Dragon's of Tarkir booster box for about $100 USD? Shipping prices don't matter, as my friend is in Russia at the moment (he is the one actually buying this, and is wondering if he should).

Statistics for ModernDiplomacyII
Is there any statistics about how common is the win by solos. Which nations has the most wins, and who the least wins. And statistics like that.
And also, in general, which variants would you say are the most played, and why?. Any thoughts?.

UK Politics
We have had an elected Head-of_State since forever, we've had a Prime Minister elected with something like 25% of electorate and now he is standing down to be replaced by new PM that no one elected. Home of democracy? I think not.

@ora: "Has anyone else seen the torrent of abuse directed at 'Leavers'? Things like "most googled term: what is the EU?" "

that is not directed at leavers specifically. i doesn't matter what you voted for - if there is a surge in googling what the thing is you just voted about, that's funny no matter what.

Sure, what about the bregexit? Articles talking about Leave voters who regret it?

Again shaming lower class people for having their voices heard.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
03 Jul 16 UTC
Is it possible that they just address the phenomenon of so many people regretting their choice so short after voting? The rather mesmerizing fact that it seems likely that if you held the same referendum 24 hours later, stay would probably win with a larger margin?

It's extremely interesting to me, especially in such an important decision.
Of course there's a lot of shaming too, but merely talking about leavers regretting their vote isn't automatically shaming anyone.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
03 Jul 16 UTC
Yeah, it is possible. But it is the reporting, how many newspapers were reporting the leave campaigners who were celebrating their vote being counted despite not expecting it to? What spin did they put on it? I'm entirely sure you can find those people just as easily and make a story.

So what do the reporters see?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
03 Jul 16 UTC
It took me a second to realise that you were implying that they don't report that, actually.

That's just almost too obvious to mention. It's pretty clear that most didn't expect it and of course there's a large portion amongst them who are actually happy with the result.

'Majority voted for option A and were happy to see it became option A' is hardly newsworthy.

I see your point, but you try to make it look interesting, rather than "Breaking News: someone voted for what he considered the best outcome".

Maybe(/probably) there is bias in the reporting, but in this case it's hard to spot the difference because that's just the news that everyone talks about.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

It's also a frame that serves the UK well at least within Europe. My inclination at least is to try and soothe the pain for the people who got screwed over, rather than thinking 'okay, you want out. Now get the f*ck out.'
Now the UK might actually succeed in picking what they like from the EU-menu without having the same obligations, which is wrong in a way but we still wish at least what we perceive to be a majority of the population who like us the best.

You annoy me more than anyone who actually disagrees with me, peterlund. Try sticking to the facts instead of pronouncing disaster every weak.

Something happened. You think it's bad, I think it's bad. You tell everyone how bad it is and I look for ways to make it positive.

Ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophesy?
orathaic (1009 D(B))

Of course the most sensible deal is one where current residents/employees of Britian or the rest of the EU get to keep working or living where they are, and new people moving need to get a visa or whatever.

You're not actually allowed make retroactively laws - so you can't punish people for doing something which was legal at the time they did it - though whether this change would count is an odd one.

@Steephie, i'm talking about a specific trend i'm seeing. Basically blaming under-educated lower/working class people for voting the 'wrong' way.

The narrative is one which says that 'those' people don't know what is best for themselves... and the result is people not engaging as much in politics. Thus being worse at making decisions about things they've barely thought about (or that they've slept through their civic lessons in school so they don't know what the EU is)

The solution to people not engaging is not to continue berating them and telling them how stupid they are, if anything it makes the problem worse.

The disaster for the UK has already happened. Nothing we say can change that fact.

"Something happened. You think it's bad, I think it's bad. You tell everyone how bad it is and I look for ways to make it positive."

"Ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophesy?"

Yes I believe it was relly bad for the people living in the UK. For you and I it does not matter that much. Just a bit more difficult to trade/cooperate with that country.

But, you cannot rewrite history. Done is done. Also *you* need to respect the outcome of their referendum and this regardless of the circumstances.

The only possible alternative to the BREXIT actually taking place is if they themselves call for a general election for a new government within the next 2 months. In such an election the UK people get their say again and then they also get a chance to revert the referendum decision.

@peterlund:
"The disaster for the UK has already happened. Nothing we say can change that fact."

In the future, we may be able to say that a disaster happened here. For now, no one knows exactly what the consequences will be. I think the risk taken was a bad risk to take, but even when you take a bad risk, you can have dumb luck.

Coincidentally, my best paying clients so far have been from the UK, so it might actually have a significant effect on my personal income. I'm an entrepreneur, so less clients instantly means less income.
However, only the future will tell whether I'm actually screwed by this.

I made sure that my clients paid their outstanding debts to me when the Euro devaluated so I got significantly more Euros than I originally bargained for in Pounds. I've managed to profit from EU policies so far. Maybe I end up contracting British people now the Pound is devaluating and I benefit again because I'll need to pay less Euros for the Pounds they want, who knows?

That's one positive side-effect, actually: with the devaluating Pound, the UK has a significantly better export position and the expats will get more Pounds for their Euros for as long as it lasts.

I apologise if I over-explained that. I mean no offence, but I don't know how familiar you are with economics.

The U.K. Will survive and thrive in the long term. It will be painful for awhile but that will end. The EU, however will be in more trouble and the Euro will fold.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
03 Jul 16 UTC
The EU might have trouble with other far-right groups, especially if the UK thrives... They can point at success and say 'we can have that too!' And the EU will hurt much more... Even if popular opinion in the UK thinks they were lied to and didn't get the deal they were hoping for. (Like not controlig immigration, if they stay in the common market; or not staying in the common market if they control immigration) - other EU countries will not feel these lies, they will just see a prosporous UK.

Unless the UK breaks up...

Also, back on my tangent: http://www.sciencealert.com/why-do-you-make-stupid-decisions-when-the-experts-tell-you-otherwise

People talking about why it is not stupidity that makes you vote 'wrong'... Clearly written in the context of people calling thise who disagree with them 'stupid'.

@ora: We agree on what should happen. I guess it doesn't look like that's happening from here, but obviously you'd know better."

Nope, Ireland and the UK have had a common travel area for longer than the EU has existed. And citizens were not forced to move when the republic left the UK in 1923. Also rascism against immigrants in the UK is noticably less if you are Irish (people saying "you're the good type of immigrant") So there is potential for a UK-ROI deal which ignores all the member of the schengen zone.... (Which ireland annoucned they weren't joining the day after the British announced it... Again, because we had our own Common Travel Area)

I don't see why our previous deal would be altered by the UK leaving the EU. People can have a right to work in ireland without a visa but not in the UK, while having no border checks between the two. I don't see a logistical issue with this.

Meaning of "no in-game messaging"
First-time player question: if a game has a "no in-game messaging" setting, does that mean there's no communication between the players at all? Or is there just a specific kind of messaging the players should/should not use?

*Apologies if this is answered somewhere in the rules or another thread; couldn't find it specifically anywhere.
