I'm struggling to see the relevance to the referendum. I'm also struggling to find the bit Nigel said that I'm meant to disagree with.
peterlund (1310 D(G))
15 May 16 UTC
It is relevant since all the international relations of the UK are at stake. Also England's relation to Scotland. In the article I found this passage.

Asked which current world leader he most admired, Farage replied: "As an operator, but not as a human being, I would say Putin."
Octavious (2732 D)

Do you disagree with that passage? I don't know a great deal about Putin as a human being, but he does come across as an extremely effective operator.
peterlund (1310 D(G))

Yes I question the political judgement in a person saying that he admire Putin. I would not trust such a person with my vote and much less with my country, as little as I would trust Trump the maniac.

Did you read that sentence? He's basically just saying he aspires to be someone who actually gets things done rather than changing his mind every time someone gives him a gnarly look.

I don't know what gnarly means, but my heart says it's right.

In fairness he never said anything remotely along the lines of "the EU is like a new third Reich", but he would have known exactly what the headlines would be. Similar to Cameron and the potential for war nonsense. It does irritate at times.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
15 May 16 UTC
Exactly, Oct. He's not stupid. He chose to say that the EU was trying to do the same thing Hitler had done (bringing Europe under a single authority, not eradicating the Jews, etc). It was his decision to make that Hitler reference and he must have known it would have attracted criticism. It's silly hyperbole and it's a distraction from the real issues. I agree that it's irritating.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

A good friend of mine made the following comment:

"Hypothesis: while serving as London Mayor, the requirement to represent the city overseas creates a lot of pressure not to mention the war. The longer a mayor is in office, the more this builds up, so that eventually, after the person ceases to be mayor, it all comes exploding out in a giant Hitler fart."

You're right, the part where Putin saved the Russian economy when it was in drastic need is obv not anything to admire.

@Octavoius you say "extremely effective operator". This effetivness is simply not possible in a democratic system. Nigel being "impressed" by this effectiveness does not impressed on me at all. I get scared by any person arguing in this way, since such talk is making excuses for authoritarian rule in Russia and elsewhere. When you are at it, why not introduce the same effective system also in the UK? And I can guess that the only possible "operator" would be Mr Nigel Farage.  :/
Putin33 (111 D)
15 May 16 UTC
Unlike Cameron Putin was actually elected by a direct popular vote. He has more democratic legitimacy than the war mongering leaders you worship.

1. Stop claiming that Putin limits the freedom of speech in Russia. Yes, main TV channels don't promote ideas against Putin, but we have TV debates which (at least the ones I've seen) aren't biased for or against the government, and show the situation how it really is. Then we have other channels like Dozhd' (literally Rain) who are mostly anti-government, and they continue existing without real problems. Then we have newspapers (a lot of them), and there are quite a lot of anti-government ones available (like Soviet Russia, for example). Then there we have Internet access, and Internet isn't censored. Russia does have the freedom of speech.

2. Stop claiming that Putin is an authoritarian ruler/autocratic leader/dictator/etc. Putin doesn't wield absolute authority: his power is limited by constitution (and these limitations do work); Russia isn't even a presidential republic - it's a president-parliamentary republic, so Putin doesn't control the executive branch; freedom of speech is here, and people aren't sent to jail for disagreeing with him (and if you claim they are, then give me a list of names); every year there is a direct line, and Putin responds to all kinds of questions, and almost every single problem Putin responds to during the several hours long direct line gets solved by the next month (do you fellow Americans have anything like that?). Maybe you are confusing "dictatorship" with "being a very popular leader".

tl;dr: stop using clichés.

@maks-s15.
This thread was primarily about Nigel Farage, not Putin/Russia! But if you insist, we can change subject. How do you explain the deaths of Boris Nemtsov and Anna Politkovskaja if you live in a free open society? They were both trying to use the freedom of speech in Russia.

Your sole argument against Nigel Farage is the fact that he admires Putin as an operator. The obvious discussion to follow is whether Putin is an admirable operator. You sidelined Nigel by not giving us anything to discuss about him and a lot to discuss about Putin.

Your one argument is very weak, you see.

Full disclosure: I hardly know who Nigel is, all I know is your argument is pretty bad.

@Maks-s15: I know you don't represent Russia or anything, but I'm still interested to hear how you see the annexation of Crimea, for instance. Western media like to portray it like Putin just felt like it and then there's some people who go completely the opposite way. I guess what I'm hoping to find out is what the moderate Russian view on that is.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

It's not like Nigel Farage is going to become PM because we vote to leave. And Putin has proven very effective anyway. Rather irrelevant really.

Boris Johnson is another matter. But hey, I'm glad he's helping fight Fascism! ;)

@steephie22:
A legitimate (not a very good one in terms of persistent choices, but anyways) government was overthrown, and this new government immediately started speading nationalist and anti-Russian ideas, like making Ukrainian the only official language (considering Russian has been the second official language) and even considering some Ukrainians who sided with Nazi Germany during WW2 "Heroes of Ukraine" (the most notable one being https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepan_Bandera ). Obviously, Russians in Crimea (and later in Donbass) really didn't like a neo-Nazi-like government, and started organising referendums to either stay with Ukraine, become independent or join Russia, with Russian troops (who were already in Crimea before this whole crisis took place) stationing next to all the important places to scare off any potential "activists" trying to ruin the referendum while being completely harmless to people. As a result the option to join Russia won (~90-95% voted to join Russia, which is really impressive), and Russia did what the peoples asked for.
I'm dreaming to go to Crimea and ask people what they voted back then and what they think now. That would be the best way to prove my point.

@peterlund: I don't insist on changing the toping, I just keep seeing these clichés in your speech, and I can't stand them.
It's rather late here in Russia, so I don't want to spend another hour or so making a wall of text, so - in a nutshell:
* Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Anna_Politkovskaya#First_arrests_and_official_announcements ) tells us that the organiser of the murder was Boris Berezovsky, also opposed to Vladimir Putin. It's in no way the government silencing opposition, more like the spirit of 90-s' anarchy.
The assassination of Boris Nemtsov is a trickier one, the official reasoning being that his criticism of Kadyrov and islam offended a number of Chechens who decided to kill him for that. This case IMO is more likely to be a political one than the first one, but then the question is: why did Putin wait so long (~10 years since Nemtsov became a problem) and only killed him now? That part doesn't make much sense.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 May 16 UTC
A former Japanese PM did exactly that, visited Crimea to see for himself, and came away fully realizing the truth is the Crimeans chose to reunify with Russia. Boris Nemtsov was a Washington operative with an office in DC, he was irrelevant to Putin and not remotely a threat. This is like claiming that mobster was poloniumed by the government when in fact he was smuggling nuclear material for Chechen crime boss Borozovsky.

@Maks-s15. I read the full wikipedia article you referenced on Assassination_of_Anna_Politkovskaya. Very interesting reading indeed. You should all make a quick read through of it. It was also the most depressing things I have read in a long time. :(

Some snipplets:

"The assassination occurred on Vladimir Putin's birthday, and some people noted the coincidence." - Sounds like taken from the mafia film "The godfather".

"A week after the assassination, Alexander Litvinenko accused Putin of sanctioning the murder. Two weeks after this statement, Litvinenko was poisoned with radioactive polonium. Two days before his death on 24 November 2006, he wrote a statement, in case he "does not make it". He said:"Name the bastard. Anna Politkovskaya did not do it, so I will, for both of us. You may succeed in silencing one man but the howl of protest from around the world will reverberate, Mr Putin, in your ears for the rest of your life. May God forgive you for what you have done, not only to me but to beloved Russia and its people"."

I notice you completely dodged any of the ripostes to your claims, instead copying and pasting from Wikipedia. Must be horrible to live in an echo chamber.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 May 16 UTC
Did it occur to you that Litvinenko was a gangster working with Berezovsky and smuggling polonium from Israel where he was last visiting? Why on earth would anyone choose polonium as an assassination method? How gullible can you be to believe this conspiracy theory?

Litvinenko was a crackpot much like you who thought every terrorist was good and every Russian was bad. He was unknown to anybody when he was spouting his nonsense for Berezovskh while in the UK. The idea that he would be assassinated is a joke, and what you offer as evidence, that the so called hit happened to take place on Putin's birthday, speaks volumes about your total lack of credibility.

Where to buy a gaming computer?
So, I've got some money put aside for a new computer. In the past I've just gotten a cheap dell or had some help buying parts and putting one together. At this point I'd like to buy a pre-built one for a decent price that will do well playing games. Does such exist? What do I need to look for?

Thanks!
