The Pantheon's Oculus, an original brainbomb theory
So I recently did a lecture on the Pantheon. I find it interesting becuse it is a perfect example of the use of the Roman invention of the Dome and also the use of Corinthian Columns (the signature Roman column).
But at its center is the Oculus, a hole in the dome intended for structural support which allows the interior of the Pantheon to be illuminated.

Supreme Court Deadlock (US, abortion)
It is in all the big news websites, what do people think. Is this texan law an undue burden? Should the supreme court make a decision or pass it back down? Will republicans regret blocking Obama is the lower courts start making all the decisions?

I wouldn't be surprised if SCOTUS is unwilling to make rulings on charged issues without a full complement of justices.
Putin33 (111 D)

Of course it's an undue burden, which is why all but 10 clinics in a state the size of Texas have closed. That was the point. They have cookie cutter laws from anti-choice websites designed to shut down clinics with medically unnecessary renovations and bureaucracy. People have to travel hundreds of miles to get basic care, and they have to spend an entire weekend because of the "waiting period" rule. America has effectively returned to pre-Roe v Wade conditions.

It's astounding that Republicans are still considered the advocates of rural America when they have wrought so much destruction on the healthcare of poor rural people in this country. I mean, Kentucky and Indiana have seen spikes to HIV rates to the point of emergency thanks to the closure of clinics and the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

As long as you are rich, health care is decent to great. It's only the poor that rely on government paid for care that have to worry especially if there isn't any near them.

Could you explain what you mean by "medically unnecessary" ? From what I understand, asking for common standards of hygiene and cleanliness isn't a burden. It's necessary for the health of anyone seeking to receive care. If the pro-death activists really cared about patients, then shouldn't medical standards be at the top of the list?

These are sham statements. They specify what abortion clinics need to do while ig oring other more serious operations, like colonoscopys. They require something like 8 foot wide corridors - the norm for hospitals where two patients may need to pass each other on trolleys in that corridor - of course if abortions are available early and easily it is rare than any patient needs to be in a trolley.

If my understanding is correct, this is what 'medically unneccesary' is refering to. Look it up.

Common standards of hygiene and cleanliness (and, more to the point, safety) are met in existing free-standing clinics, teacon7. The incredibly low complication/mortality risks of abortion in said clinics have been amply demonstrated. Requiring such clinics to meet ASC standards is not at all necessary.

One of the questions at the hearing is why medical procedures with higher complication rates than abortions aren't also required to meet these new safety standards of hospital access. If the real concern was patient safety, then why don't they make liposuction and dental surgery have the same hospital requirements.

Most of these clowns don't even know what an abortion involves. Medical abortion literally requires only taking pills, which before recently used to be done at home with a follow up appointment. Surgical abortions involve dilation of the cervix and a vacuum. Literally takes 5 minutes to do the actual procedure.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Ironically because poor women are priced out of medical abortions due to being required to physically get the pills from the doctor each time they have to wait longer to get a surgical abortion, which is now cheaper.

Legally speaking, not determining the constitutional right to have access to an abortion, I believe the restrictions are an undue burden bordering on the state itself denying that constitutional right
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 16 UTC
Why do you think the clinics are closing despite clinic operators taking out their retirement money to try to comply with these rules? They have nothing to do with medical safety abortion is one of the safest procedures you can get.

Liberal War on Women -- fighting to allow medical clinics providing outpatient surgery to women to NOT have to follow standard medical procedures, safety, cleanliness, etc.

Yeah....way to fight for women's rights, assholes.

Yeah, gotta have ASC facilities to give a woman abortion pills. I guess you won't take Tylenol outside of a hospital, either. Asshole.

Book Club
Is anyone interested in starting a book club.

Where we pick a book each month and debate that issues it raises on the forum? (sign up below) I'm thinking of things which are political/economic books like 'Guns, Germs and Steel' by Jared Diamond, or 'Hot, Flay and Crowded' buy Thomas Friedman.
