Ban assault swords.

Y'all may think sword control is a joke, but Australia has it. :-) Basically exactly the same as our gun control. Sane people can get licenses to own swords and play with them in controlled environments (I know rather a lot of sword nuts), and we no longer have sword murders. We did. Until we required licenses and safety controls.

Japan regulated guns so mass murderers there use swords or chemical attacks.

This could easily have been prevented if the teacher were also carrying a sword.

It could have been much worse had this evil shit had a gun.

We cannot outlaw evil, we can only treat mental illness, but we can make it harder to get hold of weapons.

Your solution is to pretend that it isn't happening. I get your point but a) the cat is out of the bag, even if such reporting stopped tomorrow the knowledge of earlier atrocities won't go away; b) with camera phones and the internet how would this work?; c) because of this round of publicity no child in a school with ever pose with a sword-wielding loony again, your solution denies them that chance; and d) ignorance of the consequences of abnormal behaviour reduces the chance of early intervention.

I'll concede that you have a point. I think it's difficult for lots of people to understand that this is not news. Also, it is difficult for many people to trust the authorities. It is the authorities who should be making these kinds of decisions for us.

Perhaps sword avoidance training should be added to the safety curriculum for children? Only the security experts can make this determination. If you are not one of these people, it is wasteful for you to sink your nose too far into matters of such morbidity. Promoting this sort of nonesense perpetuates it.

how will you distinguish between "attention seeking" and terrorist activity? or would you stop reporting of that too? How would you enforce such a ban? How do you expect voters to decide on the necessity of new legislation if they have no idea what is happening.
