I thought I remember a proposed series called "Where it went wrong" or something like that.

Did no one have a game they wanted dissected? Because I wouldn't mind submitting some of my gunboat play to criticism.

Constitutional Rights for Embryonic Americans?
In the GOP debate last Thursday, unsurprisingly, abortion was a point of discussion amongst candidates. Obviously they were all pro-life to some extent or another, but Mike Huckabee went so far as to say that abortion was already illegal, because unborn children have the rights to equal protection under the law and due process. Right from conception, they have constitutional rights, he argues.

Regardless of your position on abortion, is this a valid argument?

I need help with a research paper!
It's due tomorrow night and I have to do a 12-15 page paper on how the internet of things and the third industrial revolution will affect society and more importantly the work force and employment.

I'm up to around 10 pages and I have no idea what to write for the last 2.
And no, increasing the font size of each period isn't allowed.

Write a conclusion where you analyze what you wrote in the other 10 pages. Repeat key points and information from before to emphasize and pad it out.

I've given the history of the previous revolutions and how they affected society and extrapolated that to predictions about this one.
I've talked about robotics making a predicted 45% jobs become outdated.
I've talked about the technical aspect of it.
I've talked about how jobs that remain may be changed and be more efficient. (and more stressful for the employees)
I've talked about how the job bias that is shifting towards the social commons will shift even more.
I've talked about how workers will begin to develop a different skill set from the practical, hands-on skill a lot of the current work is based on.

Try talking to the rising population in West Africa and Asia, and how industrial markets there won't grow unless political progress is made, which is impossible until Western society gets their own political situation under control which won't happen because their markets aren't strong enough to support the country.

Endless cycle, only broken through spectacular scientific innovation. War is also an option, those are our final 2 reset buttons.
Fluminator (1500 D)
14 Aug 15 UTC
That's actually not a bad idea. I can cover the politics on how setting up and building a shared decentralized system across countries is unlikely, especially in places like Africa.
Have you talked about Artificial Super Intelligence yet? Though Yanik may have an idea there.

"That's actually not a bad idea."

Yeah my reputation involves cats, the word no, and quotes from obscure movies. I probably need to do something about that.

Good luck!

You could throw in some stuff about how between higher and higher capital costs, and the high yield of financial investment, we're bringing back the crises of overproduction (see China right now, it's when prices drop so low that the rate of return on producing goods falls below that of putting it into banks, and businesses stop spending on actually doing anything) that we used to see before we cracked down after the Depression.

Or how the massive energy use and expenditure through logistics is making fuel and energy even more important, and how energy from fossil fuels is now replacing not only the energy from human labor in industrial production, but the energy from human labor in services and administration - and how all that ties into climate change and potential energy crises coming up.
JamesYanik (548 D)
14 Aug 15 UTC
Maybe even involve human morals/ethics/values and how we might see some changes in what we find important. Also, go into Nuclear Power, you can talk for HOURS about how brilliantly brilliant and brilliantly flawed nuclear power is.

Get a block quote from Marx or Smith or someone, if you think you can analyze it in a way that fits into the rest of the paper - that could take up a paragraph or two, and make you look well-read.

If all else fails, quote source material you've previously used a number of more times and connect it around and make it relevant. That'll work.

Flum have you written a conclusion? Ideally for a paper this size you will have a 2-3 page introduction followed by 7 pages of evidence, citations, supports and then 2-3 pages of a conclusion summing up everything. Make sure you support you thesis throughout.

High school librarian here. On summer break. My instinct is to yell at you for putting this off until the last minute but since I'm bored I'll bite.

What's your research question? Do you have theme or argument to your paper, or is it just a string of tenuously connected ideas and topics under the vague umbrella of the "internet of things?"
In a sentence, give us your paper's main point.

I've almost finished it. Just need to do the bloody annoying reference formatting.

I decided to cover the security and potential fall-backs for relying on the technology too much and a bit of the political situation needed to actually create a global system of things connected to the internet for it to be of practical to use in the workforce. (and anywhere)

@2ndwhiteline:
Lol, if you call finishing it up the day before/day of being last minute, then you should know this is a big improvement for me.

My theme was how human culture and society will potentially change (specifically focusing on employment) if the internet of things takes off. That is, an energy and logistics internet being merged with our current communication internet where every practical item is connected in a single decentralized system.
My argument was basically the token, "There are pros and cons, but either way it will be different if it takes off." and "It's up to the individual to adapt to make the best of it." and somewhat cheesy lines like that.
Ah, I would have gone with the dichotomy of advancing technology either to immortality or possible extinction. Also, I would talk about advanced virtual reality and sex robots.
Fluminator (1500 D)
14 Aug 15 UTC
One of my classmates did his paper on Oculus Rift which is basically virtual reality.
I could have mentioned that sex robots may put brothels out of business and maybe stop the sex trafficking. They probably wouldn't though.

So teenagers brains are different from adult brains; that is a reason why we don't let them drink or drive... The frontal lobe which controls will-power and executive function ( ie decision making ) continues developing until about 25.

Great video, but the first thing i think of is relationships, (and given that i was recently dumped, this is no surprise) Naturally you could also apply this to diplomacy; but the probabilities get a little messed up, and in Dip not taking a bet means taking a different course, which may also be risky.
