Where it went wrong
I thought I remember a proposed series called "Where it went wrong" or something like that.

Did no one have a game they wanted dissected? Because I wouldn't mind submitting some of my gunboat play to criticism.

The current list for the Mountain Game 4:

1. basvanopheusden
2. Jamiet99uk
3. Steingrim
4. trip
5. aborinius
6. abgemacht
7. phil_a_s

The waitlist is:
krellin
Jeff Kuta
ckroberts*

(* participated in previous Mountain game and thus cannot join next game)

Before we do that, there has been a bit of complaining about the rules, and I want to make sure we're clear. Previously we had discussed the game being not Lusthog, and only the top two players in a draw (by SC count, then RR, then GR) or the solo winner go on to the next game. Some folks were unhappy with that; I am particularly interested to know if the current line up thinks it okay.

I am in favor, should make for a more interesting game. Too many draws already, after all.

@ckr maybe it's best you explicitly lay out what the full current rules are.
ckroberts (3548 D)
05 Aug 15 UTC
OK, good thinking, Valis.

The unchanged part: This is a 7 player, one game, never-ending series, 7 players in an anonymous, full press, 25 hour, low bet game. The winner or in the event of a draw [unknown] number of players will continue on to the next mountain game.

The changing part: How many people, in the event of a draw, continue on to the next game. It was originally three, under Lusthog rules; now I think we're down to two without Lusthog requirements.

If anyone on the current list can't make it, steephie, you're next! Anyone else who wants on the wait list for game 5, just add yourself.
I like the part where only two players advance. I've never played Lusthog, but I don't think we need it. The last game was aggressive enough, I'd say. It did end in a draw, but that's because you, Stack and jamiet defended well, not because I didn't try :)

The part that I didn't like too much, is to do tie-breakers based on RR and GR. Instead, I would propose to break ties based on the country that's playing. Something like Italy>Turkey>England>Austria>Germany>France>Russia. We can ask ATC, goldfinger or Tru Ninja or whoever has done the most recent statistical analysis which countries have the best chance to get to solo or top two in a draw in all classic full press WTA games on the site, and base the order on that. The advantage is that, before the countries are drawn, every player has the exact same chances.
ckroberts (3548 D)
11 Aug 15 UTC
Ooh, that's a fancy idea, although I worry about lategame incentives.
ssorenn (0 DX)
11 Aug 15 UTC
the RR or GR are not fair to decide outcome---SC count...make them fight it out if the second place, if the position is a stalemate and two are tied for second, only one moves on(the leader)----its should be harder not easier to stay on mountain
@ckroberts: everyone will know the country order, so everyone's incentive is clear. For example, when the game is heading towards a draw like Russia (16) - England (9) - France (8) -Italy (1), France knows taking Italy's center won't give him a spot on the mountain, but grabbing one off England will. But Italy, England and Turkey all know that too.
@ssorenn: I like that suggestion too. As long as we have a system where everyone has the same chances (before countries are drawn) and the order is clear for all players.
ckroberts (3548 D)
15 Aug 15 UTC
Jeff and trip cannot play, and arborinius has not visited the site in a while. That means we've got open spots! I'm looking for two more players. ssorenn and I cannot play because we just lost the last Mountain.

Yes, let's avoid the confusion last time and post the rules here and make sure everyone agrees.

Constitutional Rights for Embryonic Americans?
In the GOP debate last Thursday, unsurprisingly, abortion was a point of discussion amongst candidates. Obviously they were all pro-life to some extent or another, but Mike Huckabee went so far as to say that abortion was already illegal, because unborn children have the rights to equal protection under the law and due process. Right from conception, they have constitutional rights, he argues.

Regardless of your position on abortion, is this a valid argument?

I need help with a research paper!
It's due tomorrow night and I have to do a 12-15 page paper on how the internet of things and the third industrial revolution will affect society and more importantly the work force and employment.

I'm up to around 10 pages and I have no idea what to write for the last 2.
And no, increasing the font size of each period isn't allowed.

So teenagers brains are different from adult brains; that is a reason why we don't let them drink or drive... The frontal lobe which controls will-power and executive function ( ie decision making ) continues developing until about 25.

Risk taking
http://youtu.be/vBX-KulgJ1o
Great video, but the first thing i think of is relationships, (and given that i was recently dumped, this is no surprise) Naturally you could also apply this to diplomacy; but the probabilities get a little messed up, and in Dip not taking a bet means taking a different course, which may also be risky.
