The 2015 Gunboat Tournament will be starting up soon. Co-TDs will be Valis and myself. In preparation for this tournament, which will likely start at the end of August, I am taking suggestions on the advice of last year's TD as to how to improve the tournament from last year.

I'm considering a few large-scale changes to address some of the issues encountered during last year's tournament. The two biggest ones, as I see it, were the WFO abuse and the general length of the tournament. I'd love to see the 2015 tournament actually end in 2015.

Preference will necessarily be given to higher RR. Like last year, I want this tournament to be open to all comers regardless of GR.

I think participation should be limited to people who at least played some games on the site. A buy-in (small one at least) should also be required.

I also think it would be more fair if the countries were asigned at the beginning of each round, so every player plays each country exactly once.

A small buy-in to complement a site sponsored prize, naturally.

Also, this is a good question. Each country once? Randomly assigned? How many games each round? Format?

Unfortunately I don't think the last couple have been immortalized on the tournament site, it would be best if that happened.

In a perfect world there would be 43 entrants which allows for each player to play each opponent exactly once in opening round and play as each country once. I think last year someone mentioned having the template for how to arrange the 43 opening round games to satisfy that.

Is there a gunboat Masters? I think what I played in last year was just called he 2014 gunboat tournament. Don't think I have played in something called the Masters.

Basically, if you don't immediately enter orders for a game you're holding up with WFO first thing when you log in, you're abusing it.

People constantly, every time they allow it to be turned on, use it as an excuse not to enter orders even when they're available to.

ISTR a mod statement that WFO is no longer an option at all even for tournaments in any case? (Too lazy to go forum digging, sorry.)

My only comment other than that is A+ WHEN CAN I SIGN UP MY RR IS CURRENTLY 100%. :-)

@thorfi - WFO is no longer an option, even for tournaments. The ODC is the last one grandfathered in.

And I wouldn't quite say its in the works, Valis. Tim is the only one who truly knows what's "in the works"

ATC is trying pretty hard to recruit me to work on the code, so I've seen the issue ticket in question for that feature, actually. Unfortunately between work being extra busy right now, a two year old child, and an upcoming newborn in a few months time, about the level of engagement I can provide is occasional code review and design advice. Shame, because I'd love to do more. :-)

Oh! Back to the OP: What's the likely NMR/Replacements policy to be?

I'm cool with anything from "We just let them go abandoned forever" to game pauses for replacement after 1 NMR season, but I'd like to know in advance so I can uhh, no reason, I would never take advantage of such things. I'm honest I is, guv'nor.

There will be no WFO. There will also be no guarantee that every player will play every country and every player in the first round. The mod side logistics of setting that up is not something I'm looking to repeat.

I've only ever played FTF with people who don't really care about the game and want to be done after a year, and I always feel a twinge of jealousy when I sew those people having fun playing in real life on that crappy coast across the country. Conundrum
So the people who make the schedules at my school are kinda dumb. I signed up for both AP Micro/Macroeconomics and AP European History. Only one class of each is being offered. And they happen to be the same hour. So I need to drop one and pick up some other course. I really don't know, so what (preferably AP) course would you suggest for me to take instead of AP Micro/Macroeconomics (because there's no chance I'll drop Euro)?

Getting Germany every single game
Hi everybody, I'd like to ask if anyone has experience with an account getting a certain country every single game. One of my friends who I've played in several games against has drawn Germany out of the pot every single time. We're onto the fifth time out of 5 games he's gotten Germany.

I'd put it up to chance but we've reached 5 sigma and are on our way to 6. Thoughts?
