I think faking them should be "allowed" (if you want to resort to that) but at no point should you ever say "mine is legit... If you don't believe me I'll email the mods." The last part is against the rules and should stay that way. Therefore, treat screenshots with a grain of salt and the problem is solved (mostly).

The last multiple times it was aked this was brought up the policy was that screenshots are ok if only because they could be doctored. I'm pretty sure an admin said that higher up in the thread. if need be I can go through and find those older threads too.

Has Valis been unintentionally breaking rules? Clearly not a banning offence, however if he was justly punished by expelling him from, say, the ODC tournament I don't think anyone would object :)

I don't have to, but sometimes real time communication is much more useful than refreshing the page every f****** 30 seconds

Let me make a correction to all mod statements posted in this thread. Goldfinger0303 and I were both mistaken. Thank you to valis for going back and finding the complete explanation

4: Discussing a game in pm or forum: Allowed (and always has been) if the game is full press, not allowed in global press or no-press games. Anonymous/non-anonymous does not impact this decision as breaking anonymity is allowed via site rules, lying about identity of anonymous players is also allowed. If you are in an anonymous gunboat or public press game and you do not know who else is in the game then the only people you may contact regarding the game are people who are not in any active games, and who do not have any points in play, as they are the only people you can safely assume are not in your game. Keep in mind that allying against or with someone due to their identity is metagaming, and may be punished.

5. Discussing a game via methods outside of the site: This is allowed if the game is full press. This is not allowed if the game is public and you are friends with the person you are talking too, as playing with friends in public games is not allowed via our meta-gaming rule. This is not allowed, and will result in significant point docks, if the game is global press or no press.

The key thing to understand here is that if you begin communicating with someone outside of the site about a full press game and begin doing so on a regular basis you are most likely entering into a violation of site meta-gaming rules. Aye, good to have that clarified. :-) Because, frankly, this *is* Diplomacy. The other half of the game that isn't the pieces on board and mechanics *is* human communication, real, fake, halfway in-between, in all the messy complexity that that is.

The problematic aspects of the "signals intelligence" aspect of the game are already handled by the rule against making difficulties for mods by blaming bugs.

Sending someone a screenie of your orders then flipping them before deadline is no different to waving a set of written orders at someone in F2F and dropping a different page into the box.

People *will* be shitty at you about that sort of thing, zero question of that. But it can't be against the rules, because lying being possible is a huge part of the game.

Otherwise I'll be over here playing Pandemic, or Settlers of Catan, or any number of other games where lying isn't part of the rules.

And yes, @ATC, this is a game of trust and persuasion - but you can't have *either*, if failure of trust isn't allowed by the rules. I don't need to trust that my opponents in Settlers of Catan are going to hand me the resource cards I just arranged to trade with them - it's just not allowed for them not to. And IIRC "futures" trading is straight up against the rules there too.
