Ray Tensing Indicted for Murder of Samuel DuBose
http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2015/07/29/publish/30830777/

I'm glad Tensing had a body camera on. I'm glad the grand jury indicted him. Unless there's something acutely relevant that's off-camera and missing here, I'll be glad when he gets convicted of murder.

There is something I just don't get, concerning in-game messaging
I have noticed that in-game messaging can be completely disabled. Obviously that would not have any reason to be so without "Anonymous Players" enabled at the same time. So my question is this : What's the point with games having Anon and no in-game messaging? The whole point of Diplomacy is gone. I really don't get the appeal, because I have noticed that there is a number of games with those parameters.

I'm considering doing something and I'm wondering how to go about it.
I can't complete the action completely on my own, but I do want to be in control of what I'm doing, and keep all the money I'll probably make as a result of the activity. I haven't defined which action I'm considering taking, but I know that people successfully carry out activities all over the world, nearly every day. Can anyone give me advice?

Would anybody be wiling to help me simulate a fight..
..I'm curious how a game would play out if I did some moves. But I find that I'm having a hard time playing both sides - I can't force myself not to metagame.
Sherincall (338 D)
30 Jul 15 UTC

So, is anyone interested in playing a few turns starting with a predefined board, see how it plays out. For metagaming concerns, if you are currently in any game with me (on this site and outside), you don't qualify. I'm only in semi-anon games, so it should be easy to check.

also, Password games and you can play with friends or anyone.

Use jDip or Realpolitik.

Setting up a private game and running a scenario on this site isn't illegal - if you really wanted to do it, you'd need specific rules for the end of the game (like canceling in F1905 or something, regardless of game status). It would be a lot easier, though, to just download an adjudication software package like the ones mentioned above.
Sherincall (338 D)
30 Jul 15 UTC
The medium to do it isn't a problem - I'm looking for one person willing to play about 3 years of gunboat. One of us plays a solo threat, the other all other players. I'm curious if a solo is possible from a certain position, but don't feel like I'm properly playing it out myself.
Sherincall (338 D)
30 Jul 15 UTC
The rules question was "Suppose that we're simulating a game that I'm playing on this site, would it be against the rules". I will neither confirm nor deny that, as I anticipate other players stalking all my posts :)
2ndWhiteLine (2736 D(B))
30 Jul 15 UTC
If you plan on setting up a board with two players controlling more than two countries, then that would be against the rules because it would necessitate multiple accounts.

If you download jDip or Realpolitik, then you could simulate ongoing games to your heart's content.

Again, let me reiterate...download jDip or Realpolitik.
Sherincall (338 D)
30 Jul 15 UTC
Yes, it will be done on jDip, that was never a question.

To reiterate the question:
I'm playing a game with you here. I get zultar to play the exact same game with me on jDip. I try some moves against zultar - If they work, I play them against you. If they don't, I do something else.

The second question:
Will anyone be zultar from the example?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
30 Jul 15 UTC
zultar will not be zultar from the example.

From what I'm reading, it seems you just need someone to bounce some ideas to test a set or sets of moves, but you believe that you are unable to effectively come up with ideas yourself to what amounts to a gunboat game, and you are looking for someone to play the gunboat with you?

If that's the case, as long as they are not in the game with you, that's fine.

My advise is to actually just do it yourself and learn from the process. It will help your gunboat/logistic skills and allow you to start thinking about how your opponent would think, which is helpful in both gunboat and full press.
Sherincall (338 D)
30 Jul 15 UTC

Pretty much, yes. It is a full press game, but I'm assuming worst case where effectively all other powers are controlled by a single player.

The problem I'm having is that when simulating the 'opponent' I always know what I'm doing and am always countering it perfectly, even when I try tricky tactics, so I'm asking for a zultar. I guess I could try to wait longer between writing my and the opponents' moves.
TheMarauder (1270 D)
30 Jul 15 UTC
So your zultar would just have to PM or email you orders for the other powers? I can do that.
2ndWhiteLine (2736 D(B))
30 Jul 15 UTC
You're looking at it backwards.

If you're testing scenarios, you shouldn't be playing as yourself. You need to be playing as the other players on the board. What is the best set of moves you could make as the opponent? If you're playing against a solo threat, what needs to be done to set up the stalemate?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
30 Jul 15 UTC
as long as I'm not in the semi anonymous game send me the positions of all the units and we can play by PM or email until you're confident you know what to do in all scenarios
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
30 Jul 15 UTC
Me too as long as I'm not in any games with you currently Sherincall. I'll play either side (solo or rest if board), whatever you want. Just PM the initial setup and which you want me to do.
Is this a position from an ongoing game? If so, wouldn't zultar be giving you an unfair advantage over the other players?
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
31 Jul 15 UTC
Sherincall: I'll play against you. Send me the position and tell me which power(s) you want me to play.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
31 Jul 15 UTC
Bonus: You now have enough players to have us playing against each other but without realising :)
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
31 Jul 15 UTC
Bas: There are no site rules about discussing ongoing games in private with players who aren't in the game.
Really? So I could ask people on the forum to give me private advice in any of my games? Or does that count as discussing ongoing games on the forum?
Sherincall (338 D)
31 Jul 15 UTC
Thanks a lot guys, I'll send you PMs when I've set up the board later today. I'm not in that big of a hurry, we have really slow phases for the actual game.

Bas: Isn't that in the spirit of the game, though?
If ATC says it's okay, it's okay :)
orathaic (1009 D(B))
31 Jul 15 UTC
Instead of PM-ing orders, ou could have a thread where the community as a whole discuss and come up with moves (but that would means the actual players could see your discussion, and would count as discussing an on-going game - not something to be done publically unless agreed beforehand)

Still i like the idea enough that it would be fun to repeat your position with crowd-sourced moves from the forum (and some sort of voting system) i recall a similar chess game which was a grand master vs the internet... And the internet won :)

And taking 'partial positions' from already finished games would be a nice choice...

In Honor of Sandgoose's Baby I See It Fitting That We Should Help Pick Out A Name
So, knowing it's a boy, there's no better time to start than now. Offer a suggestion or repeat someone else's suggestion and add a +1 after it. For example, Josh is a great name. If someone else liked that best, they would put Josh +1 or increment the counter. I'm sure SG will name it based on the most +1's. After all, he's a webdipper at heart.

Reason for Amazon Gift Card?
Amazon sent me a 25USD Gift Card to me, *at my work*, and I have no idea why. I've checked my Amazon account, I've checked my email account, absolutely nothing about me receiving one, much less at my work. Nothing but "Thank You" with the card. Thoughts? Known way of knowing?

Subbed back INTO the game at the end IF and ONLY IF, the new player was not happy with his or her result. This sounds crazy but it just might work. First, is it possible to do this. Second, what do you guys think? Would it help out or cause more problems?
