What I've Been Saying About Gaza:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/israel-iron-dome-could-prolong-195600244.html Main quote inside, but essentially--the Iron Dome, which has (thankfully) stopped hundreds of rocket attacks in just a few days now, has taken all pressure off Netanyahu to negotiate, while Hamas arguably stands to gain more from prolonging the conflict--ie, shooting rockets knowing they'll be intercepted and reprisals will come--than by making peace. So, settle in, boys and girls...

Babak asked me to say "Hi" to webdip on facebook. He is doing well, has a 6 month old baby, and just moved to a new country, but once things settle down, he might join us again.
So in the mean time, shape up your diplomatic and tactical skils and let's see who else we can drag back. :)

what is the average age of webdiplomacy players?
Is there a statistic? I want to know. In a game I felt I was playing with the stubbornness of a child. He/she wanted ALL his way. All the negotiation was "this is mine mine mine". He/she couldn't see the repercussions of a bad decision because he/she wanted the gratification of now.

Seriously, knowing the age of a person before starting a game or a negotiation can help a lot. Psychological speaking.

I'm a new player - new to this site. I am trying to get into a new game. When I press on 'New' I see a list of new games. However, some are 'padlocked' and require passwords. How do I get into those? Or can I only play games without padlocks?

Best free webdesign software
I'm very likely going to design another website, but unlike last time, this isn't for school or something, so I can use all the tools I want to make my job easier. What software would you recommend? There's quite a lot to choose from and I don't want to try them all, nor spend extra hours because I'm missing some very useful features...

Balance of Power

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balance_of_Power_(video_game)

I love Pandora games, I only relatively recently discovered them compared to how long they have been out. I love history and my interests tend to focus on the period before 1800. Despite this I think Hearts of Iron III is probably the best. Its a great combination of realism (I love that throughout the course of the game the countries pretty much display their relative strength that they had in the '40s) and bat shit insane (Fascist Turkey played by yours truly amphibiously liberating fascist Haiti from a communist Canadian invasion and occupation). Plus the blend of tactics and strategy is really astounding. It isn't just rock paper scissors, you have to think about concepts like maneuver and supply if you are going to successfully defend your border against the German onslaught.

Nahbro. Paradox games all the way. Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, Victoria II, Hearts of Iron... they're excellent.

I'll throw in some more love for Paradox games. CKII is one of my favorite games of any genre.

I'll have to try Hearts of Iron.

Putin, I played many hours of Balance of Power back in the day. Great game at that time.
CKII is among the best and easiest to get into I find. It's less of a country simulator and more of a Dynasty simulator which sets it apart from all the others. Europa Universalis IV is really good too but has a much steeper learning curve.

I really liked Balance of Power back in the day but it hasn't aged well. Wish there was a decent modern day grand strategy game (maybe there is, just haven't seen anything good).

I will get knocked down for this, but I do have to throw in Rome: Total War if you haven't played it already.
I wish I could play CK II but there is some sort of resolution issue that i cant figure out. The game continually opens off screen down and to the right. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I change my resolution on my computer but how can I change the games resolution if i cant even click on options.

I also really liked M.U.L.E.

I loved the original rome total war. I do like Shogun II the best though, I have Rome II but I dont have the time to learn it and I feel its alot easier to play a paradox game on a plane or a rainy sunday than RTW
Only played EU3 out of the Paradox collection but I would be shocked if Paradox's work didn't win in a landslide
ghug (5068 D(B))

Santa, I think I have a friend who had a similar issue. I'll ask about it.
I think total war would have a lot going for it if they approved the ai and diplomacy a bit
thanks ghug

@SYnapse: not Rome II?

Rome II was a bit of a disappointment, but I tried going back to Rome after Rome II and, well, Rome II is just better I would say...

I can't play total war without LOS anymore!

Btw, if anyone is interested in a Rome II campaign (head to head has my preference) tell me. I could do Empire and/or Napoleon too but I would have to reinstall them.

Really liked Shogun (the first total war I believe) myself, haven't played anything newer. Maybe I'll look into Paradox games, sounds cool.

I'll give a shout-out to Alpha Centauri, which I prefer to the base Civ games for, imo, more interesting diplomacy than Civ 3 or 5(only ones I've played)

@SC, you might try opening a program first, then CKII, go to the windows taskbar, right-click, and try "Cascade windows". That worked on a couple of games I had that problem with. Another solution is to drop your video resolution before opening the game or afterwards. Sometimes opening it afterwards resets the position of the open programs.

Alpha Centauri was a lot of fun. Sadly it had the flaw that most Civ games have that one day you stumble across a unit that gives you such an advantage that you are invincible. I vaguely recall that lightly armoured helicopters with massive guns were dirt cheap to produce and would cut down all but the best enemy by the score. And the rocket troops that could base hop through enemy territory and capture half of their cities in one turn were a bit silly.

Also, what the hell were the ships for?!? Aside from little transports at the start they were all pretty much useless.

Light armoured helicopters? Please. My AA Singularity Troops would mow them down like flies.
Octavious (2732 D)

Entirely possible, yet the computer in highest difficulty never seemed to grasp this concept. Those choppers could take care of all but a handful of expensive enemy units.
stupidfighter (253 D)

I never used custom units, unless the workshop failed to automatically create something it normally does. Because yeah, those shenanigans trivialize the game.
SYnapse (0 DX)

Custom units were the key to the whole endeavor. Chaos Shock Troopers were my favourite unit.

I'm having quite some fun revisiting CKII as the muslim guy that starts out with a tiny kingdom in Tunis. I grew the kingdom quite a bit larger although not that large, but the nice part is that I have a monthly income of +40 because I developed my demesne with 9 holdings immensely, and I also get money from vassals of course, with all taxes very high...

Good game.

BNP Paribas extorted by US government for $9 billion fine
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this.

US crushed French bank even though it violated no international, or bilateral law, simply because trade is done in dollars. This is abuse of power and signifies that the US no longer upholds a free trade system. It will use the fact that trade is done in dollars to destroy people even if they broke no law.
