Disband order for CD
When a country misses a move during build phase that it needs to disband in, what order are the units disbanded in? Is it totally random? Or does it have to do with the timeline in which the units were built?

Since when are the Dutch good at hockey? They haven't qualified for the Olympics for either 2014 or 2010 for men's or women's.

They probably mean field hockey.

I love nationalism of all types. Friendly nationalism breeds competition and competition breeds progress. Think about nationalism in sports over time all nations improve in sports in order to compete with other nations. The progress leads to feats of human achievement never before seen... On the other hand nationalism done to hinder another nation or berate leads to a stall in progress. Nationalism is a balancing act but if done right can and will lead to future progress. So keep sparring, it's good for us all. European, Asian, American, or otherwise.
"The nationalism of Dutchmen on here is quite bizarre, I must say"

Leaving aside the terms nationalism and Dutchmen, both of which arguably don't really apply.... Why is sharing a funny op-ed bizarre?

I find the comment especially puzzling in the midst of all the US and Canadian nationalism. Where you from Putin?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
05 Jul 14 UTC
Putin's from the USA.
I don't even support my nation in this context, so I think it's safe to say that I'm not a nationalist.

"Leaving aside the terms nationalism and Dutchmen, both of which arguably don't really apply.... Why is sharing a funny op-ed bizarre?"

Was a general comment not specifically about your op-ed.

"I find the comment especially puzzling in the midst of all the US and Canadian nationalism. Where you from Putin?"

Canadian nationalism? I only experienced that on here during the winter olympics. Maybe it's because of Redhouse and Steephie, but anytime anything is brought up about the Netherlands somebody is quick to talk about how awesome it is.

The Dutch on here don't have the requisite amount of self-loathing for my taste.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
05 Jul 14 UTC
If there's loathing against the Dutch and I agree, I usually have nothing to add to the conversation so I don't. Since it's extremely rare on here that someone else says something positive about the Dutch, saying something positive when I think it's true adds something to the discussion, therefore I post that.

How much positive and negative things I say about something has surprisingly little to do with how positive or negative I am.about a subject, unless I give a full review, which is pretty much never. On this forum most people are obi-like or just adding their two cents rather than giving a full review.

It's funny how the Americans judge people for being natinalists, while they're the biggest ones themselves. I can understand their point of view; how can anyone say their country is good at something, while they think the U.S. is the best in everything. Globally people are more disgusted by American nationalism than any other form. Nowadays a German wearing his flag is regarded less povocative. The USA tops the list of most disliked countries in the world (the Dutch will be high on that list as well, though they've managed to get there with so few people) and still tries to promulgate their sublimity. Start showing some self-reflection and stop with this ongoing bulk of nonsense you try to influence us with.

Nah, not my cup of tea either.
"It's funny how the Americans judge people for being natinalists, while they're the biggest ones themselves. "

Exactly. How about the self-loathing of Americans Putin?

Anyway, Dutch nationalism is hardly anything serious. It really only comes up in sports, which to my mind, is the only right moment to be nationalistic.

"It's funny how the Americans judge people for being natinalists, while they're the biggest ones themselves"

We do? That's funny. I and most American's I know have no problems with other countries taking pride in their nationality and culture. Hell, we'll party right along with you. We are always looking for another day to get drunk in the guise of "it's a celebration!"

Going Dutch means everyone pays their own bill. When will the rest of our allies pay their share in the ongoing fights for freedom?
Putin33 (111 D)

"Start showing some self-reflection and stop with this ongoing bulk of nonsense you try to influence us with."

Don't look at me I'm plenty self-critical of my country. I think the Americans *on this forum* anyway tend to be, with some exceptions of course.

"I can understand their point of view; how can anyone say their country is good at something, while they think the U.S. is the best in everything. "

Doesn't apply to this situation. Notice I said *on here*. I happily admit Americans in general lack self-awareness.

"Exactly. How about the self-loathing of Americans Putin?"

See above.

"We do? That's funny. I and most American's I know have no problems with other countries taking pride in their nationality and culture."

Speak for yourself.

Once the US starts to decrease the amount of freedom it spreads in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and anywhere, we'll hit the balance of 'fair shares' automatically.

This is exactly the kind of arrogance people despise. Your so proclamed "War of Freedom" has only restrained the level of freedom we live in today. Our privacy rights are set down to an all time low. Scandals of intellegence agencies violating these rights in mass numbers is everyday news. Not to talk about increased security and the narrowed freedom of movement. Don't come here demand us to contribute any more to this war on freedom.

When the Dutch promote freedom they do it the right way. Just ask the Indonesians.
And the Surinamese. And the Dutch Antilles. And South Africa. And those thousands upon thousands Africans shipped to the new world.

That shouldnt mean that the next generation - of any country - shouldnt attempt to do better.

Excuse my spelling error's, my tablet is not the of the expensive kind. On topic: I've nothing to do with the Netherlands nor the political leaders of that generation. I was merely responding to the hypocracy of some people here.

We're not who we appear to be: something good, bad, or indifferent?
The anonymity that is inherent in message boards like this and the consequent increased boldness or recklessness with which most of us are apt to behave as compared to how we would behave in our "real" lives leads me to wonder out loud: at what point, if ever, does this presentation of a sort of alternate personality constitute lying? And if it is a form of lying, does it matter?
