Did Cameron do this on purpose?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/28/cameron-eu-juncker-defeat-britain-exit

His foreign policy is a total shambles but maybe he did this on purpose to accelerate the Brexit. It takes great strategic planning to bungle something this badly.

Could someone explain to me how to get the derivative of:
(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5
So [(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5]'=.....
I've missed quite some math classes lately and I need to know how to solve this type of thing (and other things but anyway) for a test tomorrow. I could probably figure it out myself eventually, but I just don't have the time and I have quite a bit more to go through.
Would someone be willing to show me the steps I should take?

Of Kurds and Caliphates
http://news.yahoo.com/netanyahu-calls-jordan-support-kurdish-autonomy-214846630.html The ISIS today declared itself to be an Islamic State...and we'll see how long that lasts, or where that goes...meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyau called for support for the Jordanians (gee, I can't imagine why) and independence for Iraq's Kurds. Which is a more likely state to be recognized/come into being/"stick," a Kurdistan (if you will) or this ISIS caliphate? Thoughts?

B.J. Upton powers Braves past Phillies 3-2
Gerald Laird had two hits with a double and RBI for the Braves, who won for the sixth time in seven games though ending their road trip 8-3. Atlanta avenged a three-game sweep by Philadelphia June 16-18 at Turner Field.

Question for the mods:
I note we have some newish stats, like reliability rating. Ilove the idea of this. Is there some way we can set up games with a minimum reliability rating threshhold for participants? That would be a really nice way to filter out the people who join live games and then immediately quit the moment the game does not work out for them.

Coastal Movement
Normally, when two units make a move to each other's territories, it causes a bounce (Rhur moves to Munich while Munich moves to Rhur). However, would coasts be treated as different territories for fleets? For example, could a fleet in Spain (nc) move to MAO while another fleet in MAO moved to Spain (sc)? Same with Bulgarian coasts and Constantinople. Thanks in advance!

OK, sorry for the delay...and the continued delay--we'll start Midnight tonight. ORWELL! DICKENS! POE! TOLKIEN! Who will advance?

And a bonus question, just for schnicks and giggles--what's the first book you read after high school (or, if it was a while ago, the earliest book you can remember reading after high school?) Just curious to see what we get.

Worst Non-Sitcom TV Show You've Ever Watched? (4 Episodes Minimum)
Friends were raving about this Netflix show, "Orange is the New Black." Watched. ..It's awful. Wall to wall. The main lead (not the actress herself, she seems to be trying, at least) is like the adult equivalent of Bella Swann meets Every Yuppie Character Ever. Every character's a stereotype. Every guy is a perv, sex-crazed ass, douche, OR just has no life whatsoever. The writing is as bad as I've seen...and yet, this won awards? xD So, worst shows?

It seems like quite a lot of people think that if a movie has eyecandy that is "tough" or tomboyish and preferably shoots guns or engages in violence then we can ignore the fact that women never interact with each other and women's thoughts don't matter on anything except their relationship to other men. I'm sure you'll say Lara Croft is an empowering movie and we should ignore the fact that it's sole purpose was to titivate teenage boys who play violent videogames.

The recent trend among shoes/tv now is that they'll accept female lead characters who fight a lot because having "hot" women fight is a big fantasy for bros everywhere. And the usual suspects will thunderously applaud about how "far we've come".

Well this discussion is pointless for the same reasons all our discussions are pointless. With that being said, I agree that if the director is directing scenes of sexual violence without realizing it, that is certainly a problem. As I said, I haven't seen that particular scene yet, though.

1. Um...Hermione Granger is many things...

Smart, tough, dependable, loyal, independent, smart, resourceful, smart, did I mention smart...

However, Lara Croft she ain't.

2. I've never played Tomb Raider in my life, nor do I intend to do so.

3. Answer me, please, Putin...Hermione--thumbs up, thumbs down?

4. Can we all at least agree that Piper Chapman sucks...BADLY...

As a character in general or as a female character, if we're going to go down that road?

@Putin

OK, so I do absolutely agree that you can't just stick one woman in a show and claim equality has been reached.

I don't think that's what's happening in GoT, though. There are several female characters that aren't reliant upon male characters for their agency, the most obvious being Arya, Birenne, and Daenerys.
Putin33 (111 D)
26 Jun 14 UTC
I already answered. You're in love with her so I'm supposed to say thumbs up. Women are allowed to be "smart" and "tough" (women fighting is a male fantasy) so long as they're a sidekick or love interest of men and don't stray away and do silly things like talk about things other than men with other women. Hermione's role was to be a love interest of Harry and other male characters.

The whole thing with Hermione was very creepy. Adult men were counting down the days until the actress became legal.

Putin,

Could you give an example of a book/show that you think does have good female characters?
Putin33 (111 D)

Orange is the New Black, Law & Order SVU, In Plain Sight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer in terms of shows.

In terms of books, The Hunger Games (the books are much better on this front than the films), the Wicked series is another good example.
abgemacht (840 D (G))
26 Jun 14 UTC
I would agree with those. I think several GoT characters are comparable to those you listed above.
Chaqa (2672 D (B))

SVU? Hell no.

That show used to be good, but lately it's nothing but an anti-men "ALL MEN ARE RAPISTS" type show. I'm sick of its bullshit.
