Does this game have to be cancelled?
Hi. I'm currently in this game in which we had 3 people get banned. There haven't been any moves made yet and it is still in spring 1901. So if we were able to fill the positions, 1 of which has been filled already, would we be allowed to continue? Here's a link to the game.

Need a replacement Texas in Full Press Anon WTA, low stakes game.
Texas was banned, and without a replacement it's going to be a very one-sided game.

The Favorite Author Tournament: The Round of 32
And here we go, into Round 2, with Shakespeare being out due to his losing again...because he's the master of tragedy, of course! ;) Will there be literary superstars? Yes! Will there be a glut of sci fi and fantasy writers? Yes! Will Thucy continue push a #ThoreauLaozi2016 platform (Change We Can Believe In...except change is just a natural process and you must learn to accept it like the good little Transcendentalist that you are!) YES! ;) 32 authors, 1 goal...whatever that is.

The Last Man in Europe...Or, Rather, China
http://news.yahoo.com/25-years-tiananmen-barely-known-china-youth-064659528.html That's honestly very depressing...It was 1989...but its treatment is not too far from "1984." And THIS is why I have such a hard time sympathizing with those shouting "Wake the Fuck Up," as if disagreement over America's future was the equivalent to being asleep at the wheel. Neither Bush nor Obama were the tyrants the Michael Moores and Glenn Becks call them out to be...THIS is The Party incarnate...

Concerning the Frequency of Opening Moves
A while back, I received raw data from Jonathan Jonsson (someone from this site) and I put it together in an XL spreadsheet and have done various statistics related to that data. Below are the frequencies for the various opening moves by country/by move.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

Allow me time to post each country’s information. Here’s some info on how to read the posts:
Entries are as follows:
Opening move…….games (pct)….wins (pct)…draws (pct)…survivals (pct)…eliminations (pct)
The games is the number of occurrences within the roughly 4,000 games for the data I received. The percentage is the percentage of times it was played (this pct is reasonable for any number of games). Wins, draws, survivals and eliminations are the number of times that opening won, drew, survived and was eliminated within the total times it was used. These percentages reflect the percent of wins among games that used that opening (draws, survivals, eliminations, etc).
Q: Why aren’t all the openings represented?
A: I used only those openings that had at least 30 appearances. If an opening was used less than 30 times, I discarded it.

Q: Why are the total number of games used by each country different?
A: Having discarded openings for a country that were used less than 30 times, it might be that, out of the course of some 4,000+ games, one country has 6-7 random crap openings that were not used while others have only 1 or 2. If a game displayed one of these openings, I did not discard that game, but I rather did not tally that rare opening for that one country but tallied the other openings for the other 6. Therefore, there will be fluxuation among the totals.

Q: This is great stuff Tru, where can I get more?
A: Email me. My stuff is free and in PDF form.

Q: Ugh, Tru, I’m tired of seeing you post this crap. Will you shut up?
A: Nope. Ignore the thread.

Can you organize it in a spread sheet so it's readable? Maybe a Google Doc?

I have it in PDF where it's readable along with my other statistics

I'd like to. Not sure where a good place is to put it. I usually email it out

You could always upload it to http://whff.frogbox.es/ ...

Turkey's Other openings collectively have the highest winrate and the lowest elimination rate. Someone clearly knows something we don't know.

Also Tru Ninja, Balkan Gambit - Bohemia Aberration's Elims percentage is incorrect.

Thanks.

I'll try to upload this stuff somewhere today, change the Balkan gambit elim pct (thx strat).

Vaft is the guy I got the raw data from. One word of note on his program: while it's handy, it does contain games with CDs.

His site does contain the moves and so will the file I will upload. I will try to combine the following into one document:
--the information above
--where each country gets its solos from (solo radar)
--year of victory histogram by country
--messages per game and W/L correlation
--country cooperations (when one wins, who loses and when one draws, who also draws)
--fleet to army comparisons by country
--opening move strength and avg center gain per opening
--misc stuff

This will explain the types of openings, and the Austrian Balkan gambit opening elim pct error has been changed

It has always amazed me that people went to the trouble of making names for all these openings. I think the most I've ever known are 3.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

I agree. I like naming the most common openings simply as a time-saver, but to name rarely used ones is a bit ridiculous.

Did you download the copy from google docs?

Is there a way to search the games with a specific opening so I can see how they played out?

Not to my knowledge.

This is magnificent. I hope eventually there's such sufficient data for the variants. Also there's no easy way to figure out overall country winrate in standard and gunboat games the way this data is organized.

I have the statistics for the classic version. Not sure if you downloaded the file from google docs or not, but there's a lot there. I don't really do stats on gunboat or variants, though.

Lil' bit of French
I want to know how to say this in French:
"(I would like to reserve the spot) in the period from 16 July to 6 August."
That might not even be a proper English sentence, but you probably get what I mean. I just need to make clear in which period, and I don't know how.
Monday morning I'm handing in a letter in which I need that sentence, so there's no rush.

Builds in non-core supply centers
Is it possible to make it so that, on maps like World War 1 (classical), you can build in non-home supply centers, as you can on the Modern Europe map? If so, how?

Maya Angelou
I don't see anyone else posting about Maya Angelou, but similarly to those few gifted people like her, her brilliance shone even in her final hours. A few of her final words, more of which are going to be broadcasted at baseball's Civil Rights Game in Houston today in her memory:

Synesthesia
I have always known that I perceive letters and numbers to have colors, but only just recently have I discovered that this condition has a name - Synesthesia. I'm curious as to whether anyone else on webDip thinks the letter K looks green or the letter A looks red...

Thoughts?
