Did Cameron do this on purpose?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/28/cameron-eu-juncker-defeat-britain-exit

His foreign policy is a total shambles but maybe he did this on purpose to accelerate the Brexit. It takes great strategic planning to bungle something this badly.

Could someone explain to me how to get the derivative of:

So [(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5]'=.....
I've missed quite some math classes lately and I need to know how to solve this type of thing (and other things but anyway) for a test tomorrow. I could probably figure it out myself eventually, but I just don't have the time and I have quite a bit more to go through.
Would someone be willing to show me the steps I should take?

Of Kurds and Caliphates
http://news.yahoo.com/netanyahu-calls-jordan-support-kurdish-autonomy-214846630.html The ISIS today declared itself to be an Islamic State...and we'll see how long that lasts, or where that goes...meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyau called for support for the Jordanians (gee, I can't imagine why) and independence for Iraq's Kurds. Which is a more likely state to be recognized/come into being/"stick," a Kurdistan (if you will) or this ISIS caliphate? Thoughts?

Question for the mods:
I note we have some newish stats, like reliability rating. Ilove the idea of this. Is there some way we can set up games with a minimum reliability rating threshhold for participants? That would be a really nice way to filter out the people who join live games and then immediately quit the moment the game does not work out for them.

Coastal Movement
Normally, when two units make a move to each other's territories, it causes a bounce (Rhur moves to Munich while Munich moves to Rhur). However, would coasts be treated as different territories for fleets? For example, could a fleet in Spain (nc) move to MAO while another fleet in MAO moved to Spain (sc)? Same with Bulgarian coasts and Constantinople. Thanks in advance!

I read his 137-page autobiography last night. It was extremely depressing. Obviously he was very troubled. It's very sad that there were not more people in his life to provide guidance at key points. I think this could very possibly have been avoided.

(Of course, that's just what comes across. He was obviously very disturbed, and it's possible that people did try to help more than it appears and he excised that from his account. Certainly some did, in any case -- he was seeing several counselors).

"Obviously he was very troubled. It's very sad that there were not more people in his life to provide guidance at key points. I think this could very possibly have been avoided."

This is my takeaway. Work harder to identify and help the troubled people in your life. Rodger's actions constitute a failure of his social support network -- parents and friends -- to recognize the toxic attitudes he held and to offer constructive guidance out of them.

To begin with--

Fuck you, maple.

There, that's about all that deserves, onto actually relevant people and points...

@President Eden:

From his last YouTube video, wherein he lays out his plan to kill those UCSB sorority girls, he does seem to have a bit of a Holden Caulfield streak to him...10x nastier and with the kind of gun-toting (oh, sorry, lest I offend the NRA-lovers on social media who, at the news of each and every shooting in America, either rant that it was staged because the Obama wants their guns or that nobody better use THIS as a politicized point to talk about gun control, because by God, surely THAT is the first thing anyone should say after a shooting!) "weapon-wielding" side to him.

Sorry, do I seem just a tad disgusted by the fact that that IS what the krellin-ites out there leap to first when they hear of (the LATEST) school or mall shootings in America, "Oh, hell no, you better not start talking about gun control!"

Forget the issue of gun control itself for just one moment, pro OR anti-gun control...

Does anyone else find it remarkably selfish and egocentric of such schmucks as to immediately start spouting off about "defending their right to bear arms" on hearing such news, as if they and that were the first and most important things to say at such a moment? Whether you are pro or anti-gun control...can we at least agree that leaping right to shouting "Better not talk about talking my guns!!!" is just a bit out of line and disgustingly so?

Yes? Good.

Let's counter that with a happier bit of social media...

Has anyone read the trending #YesAllWomen Twitter feed?

I don't have a Twitter (I think I technically do, but have never used it), so trending hashtags and Twitter aren't things I usually care about...but I encourage everyone to at least take a few minutes to check out that hashtag and feed...some great things are being said on it right now...

Michael Moore once had a 6 episode summer series and in one he looked at neighbors always saying they saw no signs of trouble before someone does that. So he moved in a strangely dressed and looking man who made weird noises at night (mechanical saws) and left out oversized garbage that looked bloodstained. Then he interviewed the neighbors who thought he was a nice guy that kept to himself and was a bit noisy at night. But they didn't think there was anything wrong.

People rarely act on warning signs. Unless you have a criminal record you can easily get a gun. Otherwise it just takes some thought on where to get one without a background check.

I had the semi-surreal experience once of just talking to a couple of my female friends when I made joke about how surprised I was at first to learn one of them carries a knife with her as a precautionary measure.

Right on the spot, the OTHER friend, without missing a beat...brings out her own knife, and the two start comparing and chatting as if they were comparing hairstyles, and I'm sitting there halfway between incredulity and laughing at what was to me the bizarreness of just casually carrying and talking about knives that way, let alone both friends having them on the spot...and realizing at the same time the sad kind of reality we live in where carrying a knife to protect yourself from rape is so commonplace...because the threat itself is so seemingly ever-present.

In the coming days, people pro and anti-gun control will talk, people blaming this on mental illness will talk...all with varying degrees of legitimacy...

But I think this is a larger cultural problem, and while those other issues need to be resolved as well...some of the ideas people have about gender, sex, and the expectations and standards for both sides that prevail in this country are just NUTS. And while I'm NOT one of those people who would ever claim "men's rights" are at issue or that "misandry" is a legitimate wide-scale issue (apparently the shooter belonged to an anti-feminist, pro-men's rights website...and if you DO believe in "men's rights," or that misandry is equal to misogyny in today's culture...please, oh, PLEASE, do go ahead and air your dirty laundry and tell us all of the plight of the modern white American male!) there still needs to be some examination of that.

Because this schmuck didn't just pluck his twisted ideas about men and women out of the air...

Help me understand what it is you hope to accomplish through your posts. Obviously you have a strong opinion on something related to this shooting, so wouldn't you like to help us understand your views? Insane rants, like the ones you've been making, do nothing but irritate those of us trying to have a civil conversation on a genuine tragedy.

I've witnessed the rare occasion when you've contributed positively to a discussion, so I know that you're capable of doing so. In fact, I believe I've even +1'd one of your posts before. But the majority of your comments are insensitive, immature, and flat out annoying. Write something worth reading, learn to wipe your butt, and quit crapping on the forum...

Why would you be friends with people like that to begin with? I mean, I'm sure part of the problem is thus guy had no friends right? And if he did they are likely major risks themselves. Maples solution seems by far the most reasonable. Build a giant wall around the USA and let the gun retards kill themselves. Forced natural selection.

Lando,

He did have friends for most of his life, because he was a multidimensional person, and some of that was being an ordinary, likeable and fun guy.

His friends did tend to react with confusion and shock when he shared the full extent of his views later on; though it's not clear that they reacted much at all earlier on when the views were in germinal stage. And they did push him away. That's very understandable, and I don't judge them. But I think it's also unfortunate. They probably constitute the very small group of people who could really have stopped this from happening.

The ideal way would have been to provide more guidance when he was fifteen, and to encourage him to develop himself as a person and not just seek out popularity and sex, which were largely the same thing in his mind anyway. An OK way would have been to provide intervention at the time he was 20 and completely obsessed. Either would have been preferable to doing nothing.

We should celebrate people who stay friends with such difficult people, not judge them for it.

Of course, I realize your whole post was just a pretext to post vile hatred toward Americans, i.e. your fellow man, but I thought I'd respond to the substance anyway.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
