WebDiplomacy Mafia II: vDiplomacy Invasion
NOTE: The rules for this game are almost exactly the same as for the last one, but with changes to the TIE-RESOLUTION METHOD and the additions of the MOLE and QUESTION ASKER roles. If you read the rules in the last thread, you can just skip to these sections in this one, as the rest is the same. If you did not, it is strongly advised you read the whole of the below post.
The post has been copied from PE’s post (with his permission) with edits to reflect the changes.

Ranking of web-based Diplomacy websites VIII
It has been over two years since the last time I did a ranking. This time I decided to try a new website:
http://www.similarweb.com/

For some prior statistics, see threadID=477664, threadID=489951, threadID=513357, threadID=535114, threadID=538014, threadID=662728 and threadID=815834.

I found this website by chance through Alexa's Wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexa_Internet#See_also

After comparing the data on the new website to Alexa data for WebDiplomacy and PLAYDiplomacy, I concluded that I liked the new website better. According the the Alexa Traffic Rank, WebDiplomacy is currently ranked 807,758 while PLAYDiplomacy is ranked 170,616. That smelled fishy. Looking over the little other data, it seems like Alexa thinks that 85.0% of WebDiplomacy users are from the U. S. while 86.8% of PLAYDiplomacy users come from the U. K. – as far as I can tell, those figures are absurd.

So anyway, the new wbsite has graphs for a few of the websites:
http://www.similarweb.com/website/webdiplomacy.net#/#playdiplomacy.com
http://www.similarweb.com/website/vdiplomacy.com
http://www.similarweb.com/website/backstabbr.com
http://www.similarweb.com/website/diplomail.ru
http://www.similarweb.com/website/droidippy.oort.se
http://www.similarweb.com/website/webdiplo.com
http://www.similarweb.com/website/conquestofnations.com

I might post rankings later. I'm obviously being less systematic this time around (at least so far). But there you go: according to this website, WebDiplomacy has overtaken PLAYDiplomacy again. Yay! Celebrate!

By the way, does anyone know what happened to Conquest of Nations?

Looking at those numbers, I'd say a large number of our users are college kids, judging by the spike between Christmas and MLK Jr. Day that corresponds to most college breaks. I'd also say that 85% Americans, while it sounds high, may be more accurate that you think, at least based on my personal empirical observations while multi checking thousands of WebDip users.

You should rank them by distance between save and ready buttons

As a college student, I play a LOT more during winter than I do any other time. It's like Diplomacy heaven.

2ndWhiteLine: It's more the "86.8% of PLAYDiplomacy users come from the U. K." statistic that I find off-putting.
JECE (1322 D)
17 May 14 UTC
yebellz: I'm not sure that all of them have that nifty feature. ;-)

In all honesty, though, I've been terrified by how close the Save/Ready buttons are to the Pause/Unpause/Draw/Cancel buttons on mobile devices. . . . or, for that matter, how close the Pause/Unpause button is to the Draw/Cancel buttons.

Hmm... I think the 30% vs 16% bounce rates demonstrate a much higher level of play here at WebDiplomacy.

Does it have statistics on scummy paywalls?
JECE (1322 D)
19 May 14 UTC
Well the bounce rate might just mean that they are higher in search results and such more likely to be visited by people uninterested in Diplomacy.
JECE (1322 D)

Does what have statistics on scummy paywalls? I know that PLAYDiplomacy has some, of course.

are you sure these numbers are right? i mean, how on earth does almost 2% of the traffic come from austria of all the countries? i mean, i'm not refreshing the site that much, am i? how can austria be above the uk?

webdiplomacy.it - italian
diplomail.ru - russian
diplomacy.s-website.de/ - german
webdiplo.com - spanish

all of them are web based Diplomacy sites with main language other than english.
So compare them to the english sites isn't really that much useful: they'll always be smaller.

The Czech: Thanks for the other URL's. It looks like diplomacy.s-website.de also has a graph. I'll rank websites based on their 'rankings' soon.

Only patriots need post.

Lance Corporal Robert Bolin - U.S Marine Corps - 1984-1988. I am thankful for all those sailors, soldiers, airmen, and Marines who went before, allowing me to have a life of moderate luxury in a nation where anyone who applies himself can climb the ranks.

Just finished a game with no NMRs. Can reliable players interested in playing post here with their preference for buy-in, PPSC/WTA, phase length and press. I prefer 24hr modest buy-in - happy with Gunboat, full press or global. Happy with PPSC or WTA

PPSC Points Distribution
With regards to this game: gameID=142343

The pot was 175 D. Germany won with 22 of 34 SCs, so by my calculations Germany should win ( 22 / 34 ) * 175 = 113 D, but Germany only won 105 D (which is 60%, exactly, of the pool). Similarly, Turkey finished with 9 of 34 SCs, so Turkey should win ( 9 / 34 ) * 175 = 46 D, but won 53 D. What gives?
