What about second breakfast?
Obligatory.
Please picture me and darg standing next to each other, saying:

"I don't think he knows about second breakfast."

I think the real breakfast food was the friends we made along the way.

I prefer having friends for dinner. At breakfast I don't have enough appetite to consume a whole one.

This reminds me of a bunch of cannibal jokes. But I will only tell one, so as not to hijack this thread:
Why don't cannibals eat clowns? They taste funny.

It's a more difficult scenario, certainly, but can be understood through the concept of relativity. You must view the meals from the consumer's reference frame, therefore your 8am bowl of chips is clearly a snack if you've been working for the previous 20 hours. However when one of the same chips is stolen by your well rested girlfriend who has just awakened, that same chip viewed from her reference frame is breakfast.
On the contrary, it's also possible every one of those snacks are breakfast, since feeding has been staggered to be in-between half asleep time periods :D

...actually, when you get to the point when substance consumption is referred to as staggered feedings, I don't think they quite count as meals anymore...

How large are these friends, exactly?

They're Dutch, so they average at 1.82m and 84kg. Tallest people in the world.

I was wondering why you had to wait till dinner, but now that makes sense.

A great breakfast doesn't have greasy stuff. You need to get out for work and eating some heavy, oil-soaked breakfast can stain your outfit and make your mouth smell funky. Plus there's no time, you need to hurry up.

Where I live people drink liquids in the morning and that's it. Coffee as main choice

Coffee most certainly is not breakfast. Coffee barely meets the definition of a drink. It's more an exercise in self flagellation.

If I'm planning on being awake that day, then coffee and nothing else. If I need to go to bed after breakfast, then it's eggs, and either sausage or bacon. Nothing puts one to sleep better than grease and copious amounts of ketchup.

Two packets of oatmeal? So that's 1kg each?

Oatmeal is Yankee for porridge, yes?

And whilst we're on the subject of speaking foreign, when you say waffles do you mean potato waffles (an alternative to a hash brown in a fried breakfast) or the Belgium things like thick pancakes with holes in?

Oh... and eggs would be boiled eggs with soldiers, yes? Or fried eggs to go on your waffles?

Nah. Porridge is a much broader category of food, with more options/types of grain. Oatmeal, on the other hand, is just oats :d

Ah, so Yankee porridge can be made with any old muck? I've never heard of any porridge that isn't made from oats. The only variation in the UK is whether you have it in the traditional English style (with sugar, jam, raisins, and perhaps a drizzling of cream around the edge), or in the traditional Scottish style (with salt).

Well, don't know about that, actually :D

I'm more used to porridge in an Asian-sense, with millet, rice, cornmeal, etc...not sure if it actually translates into "porridge", but it's what I've been taught to call it.

American here. I've rarely heard any of us use the word "porridge," so from where I sit it's hard to pin down where we'd draw the boundaries of that word.

I like oatmeal. Oatmeal is, as I understand, made primarily of oats.
I will, on occasion, mix in things like walnuts/flax/chia/fruit/cocoa, but the base is the same.

I've had cream of {wheat, rice, etc}, but generally didn't enjoy them. Millet sounds interesting, I'd give it a try.

Grits are okay with lots of butter, but kinda boring otherwise. I think one needs to live in the US Deep South to really grok grits.
