M1011 - Revenge of the Space Mutants - Game Thread

#1 Post by Jamiet99uk » Mon May 18, 2020 11:45 am

BIG RULES POST

GM: Jamiet99uk
Start Date: 18/05/2020 @10pm, UTC +1
Phase lengths: 48 hour day / Instant Night

Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game (for the town majority) is to kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game.

GENERAL RULES

0. The GM reserves the right to adjudicate individual scenarios that arise during the course of the game at his discretion.
1. All players must vote at least once per game day, and post at least FIVE TIMES per game day.
2. All players are forbidden from posting screenshots of ANY game-related communications.
3. All players are forbidden from using encryption.
4. All players are forbidden from using non-sanctioned PMing, or copied mechanics.
5. All spectators and players who have been eliminated are forbidden from posting on all comment threads related to the game.
6. All players are forbidden from cheating.
7. All players are required to play to win.
8. Players and/or teams may not concede the game in public.
9. All players must not +1 other players' posts. However you are greatly encouraged to +1 any GM posts.

ELABORATION

0. Given a lack of omniscience, the GM cannot create a rule to resolve all possible scenarios pre-emptively. To compensate for this, the GM is permitted to resolve a given scenario however they see fit, within the remit of the rules listed above, in the interest of all participants. The GM will resolve all scenarios as closely as possible to the intention of the rules, and will present an explanation regarding the adjudication to the greatest possible detail (which does not compromise anything in-game) and as closely in accordance with the written rules as possible.

1. You MUST cast a vote at least once during each day phase - failure to do so will lead to substitution or modkill, at the GM's discretion. You may vote and then 'unvote' (see below) if you change your mind as the Day progresses. Ending the day with a vote on “No Lynch” is permitted and you may end the phase with an 'unvote' in place, it will be treated the same as a "No Lynch". During each day phase, every player MUST make at least two game-related posts. The GMs will use reasonable discretion when applying this rule.

2. Role PMs will be posted at game start, below this rules post. You must not post, circulate, or link to screenshots of any game-related content. This includes PMs from the GM, the content of QuickTopic threads or anything similar.

3. Encryption is defined as posting an encoded message on public channels that an average person would require outside software or other tools to decode. It is perfectly acceptable to leave "hidden messages" in your posts (for example, spelling out "I AM THE COP" with the first letters of every sentence), but as a rule of thumb, if you don't think the average user could decode it without a decryption service, don't post it. Posting a message in "code" which is only fully decipherable using information from a QT that you are part of is, of course, permitted.

4. All in-game communications should be kept within the thread. Only GM endorsed QuickTopic threads can be used for communicating with one another outside of the main game thread; aside from this, there should be no other forms of private messaging between players. You may PM the GM with questions or instructions.

5. Players who have been removed from the game are no longer playing the game, and will not be permitted to comment on it in private messages or comment threads. A special QuickTopic "God Thread" will be opened for individuals who wish to spectate on the game, or players who have been eliminated. Use this channel to discuss the game while it is still ongoing.

6. This is a catch-all rule intended to preserve the spirit of the game. If you are considering saying or doing something that may be against the spirit of the game, message the GM about it before saying/doing it and the GM will let you know whether it is allowed or not.
To clarify further: Players may not copy and paste any game related Mechanics. Players may not doctor and/or create fake game related mechanics or GM PMs. Players may not share personal correspondence between GM to player under any circumstances. The GM will not confirm any claims, or adjudicate based upon anything that could easily be sorted out through questioning and evidentiary circumstance.

7. This rule simply means that your actions should in some conceivable way advance your win condition as stated in your role PM. This rule is somewhat subjective, because the difference between a mistake and sabotage is sometimes hard to determine; the GM will exercise caution and restraint in observing this rule. This also means that if you need to leave the game for any reason, you should not simply drop out, but should message me first so I can determine the best course of action.

8. If someone wishes to concede defeat, they must PM the GM, or post in their relevant QT thread for the GM to check it over. Public concessions are not permitted. This INCLUDES feigning concession, in public, for a team you are not a member of. There will be no debate about this.

9. You are NOT permitted to click the "+1" on any other player's in-game posts. Worcej is not in charge of this one, so watch your left mouse button. Giving +1s to the GM is actively encouraged.

10. Players are expected to treat each other with respect and refrain from personal attacks. Players who would like to raise an issue about personal attacks (either targeted at them or at another player) should contact the GM directly. The GM will, at a minimum, contact the player to let them know an issue has been raised about them. The GM has discretion to issue specific or general warnings to players in the thread or by PM, to remove or modkill players for personal attacks (even if no warning has been issued), or take whatever other actions they deem necessary to address the issue.

PENALTIES

The penalty for breaking one of the above rules is decided at the GM’s discretion, up to and including immediate removal/modkill and/or sanctions from future games. Removal and/or sanction are instruments of last resort and will be used only if absolutely necessary. Sanctions such as future bans will be determined by the consensus of the active player base after the game has concluded. A player removed from the game may or may not have their role revealed on removal, depending on the circumstances surrounding their removal.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

SPAM:
Spamming (defined as excessive content-free posting; or, excessive posting regarding subjects irrelevant to the game) is not mod-killed by rule in this game, but the GM reserves the right under Rule 0 to sanction any particularly egregious examples. The in-game voting mechanic exists to curb any advantage that spamming as a tactic may confer; please reference the “VOTING” section below for more information.

PLAYER SILENCES:
Players that have other participants on their mute (or "foes") list are asked to remove them for the duration of this game. Disputes stemming from outside of this game should not carry over into the gameplay. If they do, the GM reserves the right to address these issues and potentially remove or sanction players if it becomes a disruption.

FORUM SILENCES:
If a player is silenced on the forum by the site moderators/admins, an alternate will take their place for the duration of their silence, where possible. The silenced player will, on their return to polite society, then have the option to take their position back over or leave it in the hands of the alternate. As long as the silence does not stem from actions involving the Mafia thread, there will be no in-game sanctions for a forum silence.

REPLACEMENTS:
A player wishing to drop out may be replaced at the GM's discretion. Individuals wishing to serve as potential replacements must NOT join the out-of-game God QT. Replacement is not guaranteed.

ROLE ACTIONS:
If you have any actions to take, please PM your action the GMs. Actions must be inputted during the day, as Night is instantaneous. Actions may be changed up until EoD. Mafia's nightkill will be voted on in the mafia chat.

VOTING

There are three types of voting within this game: collective voting to execute perceived Mafia in Day phases, collective voting to end a Day phase, and Mafia voting to kill town members.

“Lynch” vote: The first level of voting is for whom you intend to kill. Notate this vote with a pair of hash symbols before your intended vote target. (e.g., ##VOTE Bob_Dole) You do not need to spell out your intended target's username fully; as long as the GM can understand who you're referencing. In the event of a tie during an execution vote, no one shall be killed.
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not use double hashtags your vote will not be counted, for reasons of fairness but also because it is unlikely the GM will see your vote using the CTRL+F feature and this rule thus prevents vote miscounts.
Must Vote: At the end of the Day phase, all participating players MUST have their vote on a candidate, or "No Lynch" if you don't want to lynch anyone. Any player violating this rule will be modkilled unless there are very extenuating circumstances. Ending the day with a vote on “No Lynch” is permitted. Note also that "UNVOTE" is not a valid choice in this game.

Hammer Vote: The second level of voting is whether or not to employ the hammer mechanic. By default, days are set to 48 hours long, and nights happen instantly (or as quickly as the GM can process them, at least); however, players may instead elect to activate the hammer mechanic. Notate this vote with a pair of hashes before the word end. (EX: ##END). The day will end as soon as a majority of players are voting to endhammer ON THE SAME TARGET. If you are not able to vote before the hammer is dropped, you will not be penalized for failing to vote during that day.

Mafia Vote: The third level of voting refers to Mafia members choosing their factional NK (nightkill) target. The mafia members will use their separate QuickTopic thread to discuss this. Please make your votes in bold, like so: kill Zultar (<b> kill Donald_Trump </b>). Mafia NK will be decided by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the oldest vote will break the tie. The *most recent* vote determines which member of the Mafia team actually performs the kill, unless the mafia team designates, by full consensus, someone to make the kill.

PLEASE DO NOT POST.

SETUP INFORMATION

12 Players = 3 Mafia vs 9 Town

Mafia:

1 x Mafia Tough Guy (Immune to Vig gunshot)
1 x Mafia Jack Of All Trades (1 x Roleblock, 1 x Role Cop, 1 x Doublevoter)
1 x Mafia Goon

Mafia have always-on daychat where they may post at any time, and where they will decide on their kill.

Town:
1 x One-Shot Vigilante (During the day may aim at another player, resolves during Instant Night)
1 x Wannabe Vigilante Miller (Thinks they are the Vigilante, flips as Vigilante, scans as Vigilante, but actually harmless)
1 x Two-Shot Judicator (During the day may target another player, during Instant Night that person will be commuted out of the game making them immune from any other actions, but also unable to act; they return at the end of the Instant Night processing).

This game has INSTANT NIGHT, meaning there is no separate night phase.
Resolution in this INSTANT NIGHT game will be as follows:

1. Lynch happens and the flip is declared. (The lynched player's actions, if any, will not occur).
2. Mafia JOAT Doublevote activation
3. Judicator commutes their target
4. Mafia JOAT Roleblock
5. Mafia JOAT Copscan
6. Vigilante and Mafia kills.
7. Copscan result.

NIGHT FEEDBACK is very limited:

- Actions that fail for any reason return the result "Your action failed" with no further information.

- A person commuted by the Judicator is only notified if this causes them to be unable to perform an action they were trying to perform - in which case they get the standard "Your action failed" message.

- The Vigilante only gets one chance to fire. If prevented, whether by roleblock or commuting or because they fired at the Tough Guy, they will (a) not be told which effect prevented their kill, and (b) not get another shot.

ROLE PM TEXTS:

You are the VIGILANTE! During the day you must vote for a suspect. You may also, once per game, shoot at another player by PM-ing the GM with the command ##SHOOT <player>. You are aligned with the Town of Springfield and you win when the Space Mutants are eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.
(Note that the WANNABE VIGILANTE also receives the above PM)

You are the JUDICATOR! During the day you must vote for a suspect. You may also, twice per game, send another player away for the night by PM-ing the GM with the command ##COMMUTE <player>. They will be absent during Instant Night, and neither able to act nor able to be affected by any actions. You are aligned with the Town of Springfield and you win when the Space Mutants are eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.

You are a citizen of Springfield, a VANILLA TOWNie (yay!). During the day you must vote for a suspect. You are aligned with the Town of Springfield and you win when the Space Mutants are eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.

---

You are the Space Mutant GOON! During the day you must vote for a suspect. At any time you may communicate with your fellow Space Mutants in your QT at www.zombo.com. You are aligned with the Space Mutants and you win when the people of the Town are eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.

You are the Space Mutant JOAT! During the day you must vote for a suspect. At any time you may communicate with your fellow Space Mutants in your QT at www.zombo.com. You are aligned with the Space Mutants and you win when the people of the Town are eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening. You may take each of the following actions ONCE, and only one per phase. PM the GM with your choice:
1. Roleblock another player.
2. Conduct a "Role Cop" scan of another player. This will reveal their ROLE to you.
3. Double your voting power for the NEXT day only. Once this power has activated during Instant Night it is active for the next day phase and may not be de-activated. Your vote will count as two votes (you only cast a single vote, so both your votes will be on the same target). This will be reflected in the EoD vote summary, but not in vote counts during the phase. The summary will only show that your target had an extra vote - it will not specify which voter counted x2.

You are the Space Mutant TOUGH GUY! During the day you must vote for a suspect. At any time you may communicate with your fellow Space Mutants in your QT at www.zombo.com. If a puny earthling tries to shoot you, their feeble missile will fail to harm you. You are aligned with the Space Mutants and you win when the people of the Town are eliminated, or nothing can stop this from happening.

PLEASE CONTINUE NOT TO POST - THE GAME STARTS LATER

GM NOTE

Please pay particular attention to the following features of the rules for this game, which differ from the last large Mafia game which recently ended (although two of them simply return to the standard rule state):

1. The "+1" rule returns to normal for this game. This means clicking +1 on another person's posts in the game is NOT allowed.

2. The ##END mechanics are also being returned to the standard setting for this game. This means that the day will only be ended early if a majority of players are voting "end" on the same candidate.

3. In this game, "unvote" is not a valid input. Unvoting will not be recognised by the GM - irrespective of whether the Bot responds to them (If you input an "unvote" after casting a valid vote, your vote will remain on the target you had voted for).

PLEASE CONTINUE NOT POSTING

START OF DAY ONE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR8WWFzrZAg

As the "The Simpsons" intro music faded away, Kang, Kodos, and their underling, Serak, gazed at the monitor screen aboard their spacecraft.

"Pathetic humans! Look at them, scurrying to their humdrum jobs and mediocre public schools. Little do they know how puny they are, next to our extra-terrestrial might!"

Kang and Kodos laughed their deep, alien laugh.

"Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha."

Serak flapped his tentacles excitedly. "I shall go and prepare the probe!"

Kang rolled his single huge eye. "No, Serak, stop. We have reached the limits of what rectal probing can teach us. This time, we are not here to learn from the humans, nor even to enslave them. We shall hide ourselves among them, and then, each night, we shall select our next... meals!"

Serak flapped his tentacles again. "Then.... I shall go and prepare the marinade!"

"Much better... ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

As the alien beings prepared to beam down onto the planet, the sun rose over the mediocre town of Springfield.

DAY ONE HAS STARTED

GM NOTE:

For some reason Darg has launched the Bot with 24 hour day phases set. I have asked him to amend it, but until he is able to, for the avoidance of doubt, Day is 48 hours long, as usual. It's only Night that is different in this game.

The only way to fix it, was to restart the bot... so those first few posts will not be counted by el botto.

Apologies. :-(

This is blatantly false, hear me gasp in horror.

Rather happy at the return of Tombomb though.
