You can 100% use shapes for players based on how you understand their personality, on the condition that mine is a snowflake. You could use anything, exacto knife, laser beams, doesn't have to be scissors. First, could I cut the strips into different shapes, each one appropriate to my understanding of the personality of the player? If so... I might try to persuade ND to try this with me. On the other hand, I am not allowed to play with scissors.
Second, if it were up to ME, I would assign roles by saying things like: "Ummm... xorxes should be Bodyguard... and Percy should NOT be Emperor... and Vapor should be anything BUT VT... But ND is too honorable to use my methodology. :-/

Maybe a better way to phrase it would be "I want my infinity war set up to be run again" I'm not sure I would do it after the fiasco that was M38

First off, I would totally play an assigned roles game, but probably only as a one off. Second, you could also just bite the paper into the right shapes. I'm totally doing this now.

I purport that "Proximo" is the Survivor. As the Game Thread is posted, those roles that have flavor names (or titles) that are publicly known will be clearly stated, and contextualised with their usual game-style descriptors.
