Does anyone know what happened to Ghost Ratings?

#1 Post by GroverCleveland2.0 » Fri Aug 31, 2018 7:58 pm

Why hasn't there been a monthly update to the ratings list since May? I just started playing again after a few months off and was looking forward to seeing what my new place in the standings is.

Over the years, many people have taken up the thankful task of updating the ratings. I've heard it's actually not as easy as it seems, but it makes our members very happy.

Currently, Ghug is in charge. I don't believe anyone else has the time or skills/access to do it. Ghug is *very* busy with life however, so we'll have to wait patiently!

So he had enough time to play several Mafia games but not enough time to update the Ghost Ratings?

Is that even possible?

Pretty sure at the end of last month he said he was gonna catch them all up when he did the August ones, hopefully they should come out soon.

Access to the server changed when we changed servers. It took a while to get the admins access back and I don't think we know if the old ghostrating scripts work anymore. If not it might be some time before we get them back up

I didn't realize not noticing something for five hours constituted ignoring it.

What jmo says is accurate. I have played one mafia game since the last GR. It's much easier to play mafia from one's phone while slacking off at work than it is to connect to a server that isn't whitelisted and spend a bunch of time fiddling with scripts and copying files.

Life is due to get a bit less busy in a week. Hopefully I can do something for y'all then.

Maybe we shouldn't stalk ghug? I don't think that's one of his kinks.

To add, the "GR2" that I was posting was reliant on the results being scraped and formatted by ghug. I'm sure reworking it after the server switch was not trivial.

I too eagerly await the monthly GR update (seems so much more relevant than the sites point system).

Very grateful to ghug whenever he has the time to do this.

I assume from this comment that Ghug is the only one working on the Ghost Ratings? If so, then: petition to change the name of the rating system to The Ghug Ratings?

I’m appreciate it’s a likely tonne of dev effort, but I would absolutely love to see automating the ratings as a top priority. It’s a rating system is just one of those things that really feeds into the life of the site and I believe that months of missing it gets reflected in the activity level.

Yep. Should definitely do GR before getting games processing again. Then we can argue over ratings while you fix the server.

Ok servers first, GR second, and third for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace.

I hear Balki will be resurrected if that happens.
