Webdip rank
Just curious... I didn't find an explanation of the rank of a player
You start a political puppet
Then I've been Member, Experienced, Pro...
I met some Mastermind (very few) and then Diplomats
But when and how your rank changes?

Re: Webdip rank
It's based on the number of (Diplomacy Points) you have. I'm not entirely sure what the thresholds are.

Re: Webdip rank
It should also be noted it's not intended to be indicative of skill. A strong example is that I am ranked as "mastermind" which means I'm top 10 in terms of points, but I am absolutely not that good at this game.

Re: Webdip rank
This is obviously a ploy by Prado to make players think he is less good than he actually is.

Re: Webdip rank
Hey... wait a minute! Is 'rank' for phone users determined differently than 'rank' for desktop??? This is unfair! I protest this vehemently! I demand that we 'rarely-use-the-phone' folk be analyzed EXACTLY the same way that 'regular-phone-users' are analyzed. We pay the same membership dues, have the same initiation process, and have to undergo the same screening before we are allowed in the secret webDiplamcy rooms as the more 'modern' webDip members. I want the Admins to hear my complaint. I demand to be heard. I STRONGLY state that.... oh... wait... nvm.jmo1121109 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2019 11:55 pmIf you hover over the rank on a computer (not phone) you'll see it explained.

Confirming the part about rank not being indicative of skill.
I cannot confirm nor deny that Trprado is "absolutely not good at this game".

Re: Webdip rank
is your rank determined by your available points, or total points including points in play?

Avaliable points. It used to be something of a fashion amongst certain players with a lot of points to hide them in a password protected game that would never start and mascarade as political puppets. Perhaps more usefully a similar technique would be used for anonymous tournaments to disguise the fact that you'd just spent 5d on a game and therefore must be involved.
Not that it made any real difference

Re: Webdip rank
I agree with the proposition that WebDiplomacy rankings are more a guide than exact in all cases & there are I would suggest a few players with rankings that are possibly deceptive, eg my good(?) self, who is ranked a Diplomat but as many here know well, I can be a cranky old dummy spitter on occasions & not at all diplomatic & call players like PF a obstinate blockhead because they steal scs from me for no good reason imho.

This kind of stuff is what killed my interest in tournaments... Just play the damn game.Octavious wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 8:03 pmAvaliable points. Re: Webdip rank
As someone old enough to have played online games before matchmaking, ladders, and ranking...
...I assure you that making players feel accountable for their matches in some overall way is critical for putting most players into a mindset of playing each match in good faith. Online gaming is quite different from face-to-face in this regard.
