Pet peeves

#1 Post by Vaporwave » Thu Aug 01, 2019 10:47 am

Something that annoys you, let it all out in this thread so that people around you won't suffer at the mercy of your temper.

Today it happened and it shattered me. I'm very 'precise' about the 1st of every month, I want it to be 'perfect': no street fighting, no cussing, no arguments, etc

I visit 'safe' sites on the 1st. So I only looked at random nature pics because there would be 0 chance to see filthy talk. I enlarge one pic on twitter and MAKE the huge mistake to see the comment, it had a vile cuss word. No matter how careful I was today, it was all in vain.

My day is ruined and this month has started on the wrong foot for me.

Your turn now, release it! 8-)

People who answer the phone whilst you are waiting in front of them. Hotel receptionists do this a lot.

Bus WiFi, which is all well and good when you're on the bus, but then you discover that any time a bus travels within a hundred yards of you your phone will try and fail to connect with it and utterly bugger up your attempt at sending a coherent message to Austria.

But really - when you are in an auditorium of some sort and it seats hundreds of people yet every single one of the people who is already sitting is in the seat right next to the aisle so that no matter what you have to climb over people to get a seat

Sorry. Because of a knee problem I always try to get an aisle seat so that I can stretch out my leg.

Ah, yes, that reminds me. Premium cinema seats. A few years ago cinemas in the UK decided to rip up the best positioned seats and replace them with leather couch things that they charged extra for. Naturally enough nobody pays for the abominations because we have self respect and aren't posh twats, so the end result is that you have a cinema in which the ideal locations for watching the film are left abandoned whilst people squash up in the either the neck twisting areas or the teenager make out zone.

A lot of theaters in the US have recently installed leather recliners in their theaters. But it's all or none and the entire theater is assigned seating (no general admission), and the price of the ticket did not go up that you'd notice. It makes it harder to go see a movie on a whim if you want reasonable seats (since getting there early no longer helps you get your preferred seating), and has reduced theater capacity in general, but otherwise, it's been a great upgrade (particularly as booking tickets by app has become convenient).

But two-tier seating/pricing like that sounds obnoxious.

People who keep requesting something. I mean, I can be rude and solidly say I don't want to do but showing excuses should be enough to state my unwillingness. This happened me today:
I really get on well withn my manager at work. Today someone had to stay for 30 minutes after the shift and he asked me to stay. I really hate this so said I'm really tired. He persisted saying it is just 30 minutes. I had to fib random excuses. I hate when someone persists. If I have decided something, there's something I know about it.

That the prize for winning a Fortnite tournament is over a million quid per person, whereas the prize for winning a Diplomacy tournament isn't.

When people erroneously use “I” in place of “me”. E.g. “Between you and I”

Are you talking about Belgium the European country, Belgium on the Diplomacy board, or both?

Having something funny/intresting in a gunboat or anonymous game, being unable to tell it to anyone, then forgetting the thing until game ends. :raging:

A thousand years of warfare, cheating, arrogance, rudeness, pig headed petty nationalism... but worst of all... and utterly unforgivably... they're too much like us and a constant reminder of all the things we don't like about ourselves.
