The games have to be named for the tournament in order to count for the tournament. Otherwise, how am I supposed to be sure the games aren’t cherrypicked?

Another round of PMs has gone out. Everyone should have gotten theirs now.

I got mine! (I thought I hadn't, and posted saying as much, and now I can't find a way to delete this useless post. Sorry!)

97 forms were filled out. One was me to test that it worked right and a few were duplicates. Either way, we have nearly 100 participants. Great turnout for such an impromptu tournament, and a great opportunity to see how good these bots really are.

Well, I finished my sixth and final game at last. After, er, 31 years. Yeah. It was a loooong game. I soloed, giving me a miserable final score of 280 points.

I'm pretty happy with my solo though, given that I only got my second build in 1907. It was an incedibly fun game, and required a fair bit of back and forth as well as spending years at a time trying to achieve tiny goals as Turkey constantly blocked my Lepanto, France kept voyaging into the Mediterranean before immediately leaving again, etc. Luckily, it took until about 1925 until any of the bots reached over 12 centers.

This was one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a very long time. Thanks to everyone who worked on implementing these bots.

Its very interesting actually and not sure if swordsman has any thing to say on this, but I found my few bots games very challenging. I don't think I realised how much of my play was all about the psychology of those I was playing against, and bots game have none of that feel (maybe also because i don't play live games much).

I have a sneaking suspicion that these bots will be very very good training for up and coming players (and those old timers locked into bad habits!)

I'm going to reserve judgement on this. I suspect that it will be far easier to develop bad habits against bots than against human opponents. Time will tell, though. People who play regular gunboat pick up a bucket load of bad habits they take into diplomacy games. I'll be surprised if bot gunboat is massively different.

Since the bots can't handle stalemate lines, you can't learn about stalemate lines by playing the bots.

In the 1v1 games, the bots are better than most players in 02, and maybe even in 03. But after that they get lost.

So, overall, it seems to me that playing bots will be a good way of learning opening strategies.

Here is some statistics, so far.

108 games have been completed. That's about a third of all the games in the first round.

Solo rate so far is 33%. It seems very likely that the cutoff for the second round will be 400 pts. With maybe 15-20 people tied...

Which country is the easiest to play? Well, there are three tiers:

France scores an average of 99.33 pts over 30 games
Turkey 95.79 pts over 19 games
Italy 95 pts over 16 games
Germany 95 pts over 12 games
England 90.67 pts over 15 games

Russia scores an average of 36 pts over 10 games

Austria scores an average, an in total, 0 pts over 6 games.

I did failry well against the bots before this tournament (well, a survive and a solo) but the tournament games were... not so pretty. I won't be moving on.

This broadly lines up with my experience, Russia and Austria are real hard. I have had a lot of trouble with France too actually but I assume that must be user error because literally everyone else seems to be crushing with it AND that's what we would expect out of France anyway...

Was a set of stats ever created for seven way bot fights?
