Introducing the 2019 PPSC Invitational

The 2019 Points Per Supply Center Invitational is officially here!

Points per supply center, or commonly known as Survivors-Win Scoring, is a scoring system that rewards you based exclusively on how many supply centers you own when the game comes to its conclusion. As such, the amount of points you get depends on how many supply centers you have at the end. If you have the 18 supply centers needed to win you'll get most of the points, but if you have more supply centers than you started with at the end you'll still win something. If you are defeated, then all the points you bet are lost.

Scroll through this post to sign up. Read on for tournament information.

Game Settings:
• 7 PPSC/Survivors-Win Scoring games
• 5 point non-refundable entry fee for each game
• 48 hour phases
• Wait for orders active
• Non-anonymous, full press

Requirements to Play:
• 80% reliability rating
• No more than 5 combined CDs or NMRs in 2019
• At least 20 games played on webDiplomacy

Rules:

1.) You may not NMR!
You will be immediately removed from all invitational games and replaced if you miss a phase without exception beyond emergencies that could not have been foreseen ahead of time. Emergencies that could not have been foreseen ahead of time that will take more than your allotted pause time to resolve will also necessitate a replacement, but an emergency that could not have been foreseen beforehand will not immediately result in your dismissal from the tournament.

2.) Every player has 5 days of pause time.
Each player is given 5 days of pause time to use at their discretion. In order to request a pause, send me, your TD, a private message. Your request should include the reason for your pause, the direct URL for each of the games in the tournament that you are in, and the day you wish to unpause. Pause time will be measured by days on the calendar, not in 24 hour increments, so if your pause can wait until tomorrow but you want to send me a message now, please send me a message noting that it should begin tomorrow and I will not charge you pause time for today.

If your 5 days of pause time are used up, all 7 players in your games must agree and vote to pause for you, or you could find a sitter for your tournament games.

3.) Your press with other players should be cordial.
webDiplomacy's press rules are generally non-restrictive. However, in this tournament, there will be no flaming, spamming in private or in global chat, excessive cursing, or bullying. This is a non-anonymous tournament that is supposed to be fun for everyone. Players deemed in violation of this rule will be removed and ineligible to play in future iterations.

4.) You may play in no more than 3 of 7 invitational games.
Games are otherwise filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. All 7 games will be played simultaneously, so you may not leave a game once you are signed up without being completely replaced from the tournament. See the section below for more information on why this matters.

Tournament Scoring and Information:

Due to the unique nature of this tournament, there will be a special scoring system. Please read on prior to signing up.

Due to the nature of PPSC, this tournament will be scored based on the number of supply centers accrued across all games. There will be no seeding or competitive handicaps. However, there is a unique twist: at the conclusion of the 7 invitational games, the 7 players with the highest ratio of supply centers per game played will be invited to a championship invitational game, where we will crown the greatest PPSC player on webDiplomacy.

The first tiebreaker will be the number of solos. The second tiebreaker will be the number of boards topped. The third tiebreaker, if necessary, will be a game of virtual rock-paper-scissors with a secret, unique PPSC twist.

The winner of the tournament will receive 500 points and will be granted permission to force bo_sox48 to create up to 3 private, invite-only classic PPSC games on their behalf to play with friends, family, or anyone they so desire. The winner of the tournament will also be granted a special forum rank of "webDiplomacy PPSC Master" that any future PPSC Invitational winners will also be able to wear. The second place winner of the tournament will receive 200 points. The third place finisher will receive 100 points.

Sign ups are below. Do not hesitate to ask any questions.

It's not a joke, but the timing is a bit coincidental.

The games are all created and ready to go just to make sure people know that this is legitimate.

Is Metagaming across all 7 games allowed? Since they are not anonymous?

Some degree of crossgaming is to be expected, but making deals in one game due to or as a result of things that happened in another is metagaming and a violation of site rules.

Damn. I really want to play in this but don't have time for another full-press game. Will this be an annual thing?

That depends on whether or not this one fills.

I think people are gonna be in for a surprise when this thread is still here tomorrow.

These start if/when they fill. I’ll be making sure everyone is in their games within 48 hours of invites going out.

The real joke wasn’t a fake tournament, it was that there would be a real tournament actually using a joke of a scoring system.

I guess this is confirmation that nobody likes PPSC anyway.
