Re: Turning 50

Nah, 50 is old whatever way you look at it. Not "very" old, I grant you, but old nonetheless. The sort of age where if you died of a heart attack or some such illness people would be surprised, but not necessarily shocked. Congratulations :) Here soon, they will have the technology to keep your hea...

Can we show off incidents when we ourselves got violently poked? :v

'tis the only game records I possess...unfortunately
Definitely. If it's good enough, you can win the "Stabbed of the Month Award."

Re: Show and Tell: Stabs

No one wants to show off (TrPrado only got to tell)? I'll link one of mine, then maybe we can get rolling. Ancient Mediterranean, playing as Carthage: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=239024#gamePanel It was a stabby affair overall. Originally allied with Rome, but they missed the build phas...

Show and Tell: Stabs

Have a stab you think the WebDip community needs to see? Post a link to the game and details!

I'm offering +1s here... Perhaps even a "stab of the month" award (my respect and disgust [for being so much better at Diplomacy than me...]).

Re: Chaos Chaos

Worst would probably be Moscow, all 3 Turkish states, Rumania. The first time I played Chaos on VDip, I drew Ankara. I was able to capture all the Turkish centers by the end of 1902. Got to a point where I was at 5 units all of the sudden. I literally got stabbed by 6 countries at once! Survived it...

Re: E/R?

It is certainly doable, I'm in a game now as Russia where Germany was eliminated before 1903. It was the best of times until England stabbed me, doesn't look like I'll recover. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=238778 Well now. That was literally every country that can attack Germany minus ...

E/R?

I have never seen an English/Russian alliance early any game I've played. Seems like an ideal alliance to make short work of Germany. It would be a bit more of a gamble for Russia, with a usually active south to worry about.

Ever try it? Was it the best of times, or the worst of times?

Re: Weak Press

Do you send "dumb" global press if the audience is right for it? ^ My favorite type of press ;) This thread is turning out to be better than I had hoped it could be! I will say that I tend to start matches in the Swordsman school of thought, with a plan of action laid out in my mind and look to cou...

Weak Press

Hey all. I'd like to get a thread going to help some of us (me included) improve our press. Currently playing in a game of Chaos that makes me want to stab my eyes out. Lots of players ask for things, but offer little if anything of value in return. I personally feel like this is the biggest differe...

Re: Italy/Austria in Gunboat

I would say that both Italy and Austria are much stronger than Turkey and Russia in gunboat. There is an argument for Turkey ahead of Austria, but Russia is definitely the worst country, and Italy is among the best, with Austria not far behind. Italy in general is astonishingly undervalued by Diplo...

Re: Backstabbing vs Sportsmanship

Having been in games were players have come back from 1 SC to go on to solo, I have a very hard time accepting that mentality. At some point it’s just a weakness of character, lack of competitive spirit, and/or lack of confidence in oneself. I wanna see these games!! This one was especially epic. E...

Re: Does this English opening have a name?

Lots of interesting discussion but how do y'all feel comfortable enough to try these openings in 1901?? I like the concept behind it because it seems like the game "really starts" in 1902, after people have grabbed neutrals and dallied around in key border provinces and words have been exchanged, s...

Re: The Mediterranean Axis

The Med Ax is going to get stuck fairly quickly if the West can settle their differences. I think the only shot of making it work long term is that England and France are squabbling early. If (a big if) Italy could sneak a fleet into MAO somehow, it has chance. A very small one. I'm all likelihood, ...

Re: Turkey gunboat opening options

I believe it was A_Tin_Can who was a strong proponent of A Smy H. It allows you to move F Ank->Con in Autumn. You get to bounce Russia first and then DMZ Black Sea. It offers almost the same advantages, without the risk in 1901. I would give this a shot. Had the privilege of playing with Tin in the...
