Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

Unfortunately the mods who worked with gold on this didn't mention we need people to sign up using the new tournament functionality which will take a day or so to get up and running. Please still express your interest here, but be aware we will need everyone participating to use the tournament tool ...

Re: "Finished date"

The finished date is whatever the next process time for the game was when it ended. So if it's a 10 day phase and it ended 3 days into it, the finished date will be 7 days in the future

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

And when one is unable to rule out any possibilities, the most likely answer is the conspiracy theory of the mods wanting a specific player to win...who's Trumpesque now?

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Oh huh, MadMarx calling members of the moderator team liars, comparing them to various world leaders you dislike, and not emailing concerns to the mod email because trying to work up the member base instead of getting concerns addressed is just so much more fun. What a surprise. I'm sure we'll be he...

Bots are not entering orders at: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=249683

(Maybe they're just pissed that it's 1951...)
You can either draw that, or I'll have to cancel it. Let me know which you prefer, we can't have the bots missing turns and taking RR hits though. Sorry.

If you leave a bot game it will now be cancelled.

Site Down Time

What happened? When the site went down from too much traffic the other day some people left bot games they'd started which was never supposed to be possible because they start right away. Then someone else took over, and they didn't have the same country choice, so the games died a horrible death. W...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

I would guess that units sneaking behind the front lines is fairly uncommon in human games. The bot probably doesn't have enough examples of that behaviour to properly evaluate the danger. It's a limitation of the training method, if you bring the bot outside of what it has seen, you never know how...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

Be mindful that the dataset is larger when you include games not played on webDiplomacy. I will not be drawn into a discussion on whether PPSC or PlayDip produces worse players :p Obviously diluting our PPSC games with games from other sites is good, but better yet to purge the games altogether if ...

Out of curiosity, were PPSC games included in the training dataset?
Yes, PPSC was. Of the classic games played on webdip 21,987 were WTA, 32,245 are PPSC, 1,728 are Unranked, and 2,216 are SOS.

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

I think the move is a bit silly. Wouldn't it be better to support MAO into Brest and also have Spain to MAO? Am I missing a link to the game, because the move making sense is completely dependent on North Atlantic Ocean being occupied or not. If it is occupied EC support move into Brest from MAO an...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Some updates have been made to the bot to try and enhance its unpredictability in certain scenarios. If you have played your first three games and want to replay them with these changes, you are free to do so as long as you please simply PM me the URLs to your three new games. Remember that this to...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

On the chance anyone noticed, we had the bots offline for about 10 minutes, Philip was making some adjustments. The adjustments will ideally help out end game play a little bit in keeping powers from being "stuck" in all holds for to long, and will prevent a bot from trying to retreat 2 powers to th...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

As previously stated, the bots were NOT trained for 1 vs 1 so their skill in those variants will be significantly less than in classic games.

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

Enjoying the Bots... Two observations. This may scratch my 'pick-up game' gunboat itch, so I might play less Live games with real people. I'm not sure I love the 'draw' once I'm eliminated. I'd like the bots to continue so I can see which bot wins. Other than that this is a fun start. Thanks. The b...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

I have played three times, once as England, France and Germany, solo every time. Bots show zero long term awareness of impending solos, continuing to attack their nearest neighbor even while I am passing through 14 or 15 SC on the way to solo. I am a very experienced gunboat player and the bots are...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

If you click the ? help button next to the voting, or read my into post here, you'll see that cancel and draw stop working after the first 4 turns if a bot is winning and has gained centers in the last 4 turns. This is to prevent people from cancelling a game when they're getting their ass kicked by...

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!

Since I was asked to clarify what type of bug reports can be accepted: A bug is something where the bot fails to make a choice, or the game crashes. If the bot successfully makes a choice and the turn processes, then it's not something that can be changed currently. If the game is sitting broken the...
