Re: International Women's Day
I always feel a bit uncomfortable when I think women should be respected for the remaining 364 days of the year far more than they actually are, not just today.
That said, I'm happy to join Jamie and give my Best Wishes to All Women here and everywhere

Re: International Women's Day
After one whole day of respecting women I'm just drained gimix.. I think one day/year is enough. It's a slippery slope with these things..
Re: International Women's Day
Uh, the point of International Women's Day is to commemorate the ongoing fight to end the disrespect and inequities that women have to face all year round. It's odd that you think it's just about respecting women one day a year.

Re: International Women's Day
I don't think gimix was actually saying he only respects women 1 day per year, I think he was saying that for him it's women's day 365 days/year.. But yes it was worded in a funny way.
I'm sure we all respect women, and if there any any women reading this I'm sure they're very impressed.
Re: International Women's Day
I didn't say that gimix was saying that he only respects women one day per year. That's what you said, and I didn't dignify your comment with a response.
I was just pointing out that the feeling of discomfort is by design, not an unintended side effect.

Re: International Women's Day
A nod of respect and understanding to all those women out there who think International Women's Day is daft patronising nonsense and wish it would go away

Re: International Women's Day
It feels a lot safer agreeing with that sentiment when it's being said by a woman (or someone in the XYZ group on XYZ day more generally), but I know what you mean..
(Don't cancel me)
Interested what you mean about it being intentionally uncomfortable JECE, don't quite follow

Hopefully in the future it will no longer be needed.
I know that the majority of my female friends still currently think that it is.

Re: International Women's Day
Indeed so, and it is often the case that our own views are most heavily influenced by those we know and care about. The majority of women I know couldn't care less about it, with a fair few vehemently opposed. But it's important to be aware that other views than the ones we typically encounter exist and are no less valid.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:54 pmHopefully in the future it will no longer be needed.

Most of my friends are women. They're much more interesting and easier to get along with, and they smell nicer.

Re: International Women's Day
I'm not sure what's so hard to follow, to be honest. How might celebrating Armistice Day make you feel when you know that there is a full-scale war in Europe?

Celebrating Armistice Day? I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Armistice Day is...

My two sisters and mom are the 3 strongest people I know. I'm very glad society has progressed to a point where they can utilize their intelligence to improve the world instead of being forced to stay in the kitchen lol.

We live in different worlds. I can't say I regularly take a sniff of any of my friends, be they women or otherwise.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 3:36 pmMost of my friends are women. They're much more interesting and easier to get along with, and they smell nicer.
