Autumn, 1907: Haha, nothing wrong with a last ditch effort to get England and France fighting. France, you are right, Diplomacy is much more than just lying; that was my oversight this game. My web of lies got too complex, Russia and Austria just had enough of my bullshit.
Autumn, 1907: If you'd like an early AAR, here's my take. The early game involved my Magdeburg, which I have since removed from my playbook, a Germany who promised everyone everything, and who thus became a mutual removal target of E/F/R. Once that was achieved, it was apparent that R was winning the diplomacy battle hands down by completely bamboozling Turkey with a compliant and passive Austria. My assessment at that stage was that the primary solo threat was Russia, hence I stabbed. Russia's strength and competence required exactly the sort of well-coordinated and stable E/F that sometimes results in a 2-way. Not very complicated IMO. |

Autumn, 1907: Cross-posted with Turkey who apparently inadvertently contributed to their own demise.
Autumn, 1907: Summaries good. Now France won’t solo, will England? As I’ve said I’ve Dona 2way snoredom and stabbed (my son in a private game) to solo. I know which I enjoyed most. Also. I get up with this board game. We never ever drew. |
|
Autumn, 1907: *grew | |
Autumn, 1907: As a general point I'd suggest stabbing to solo in a game in which 3 powers dominate the mid-game is incredibly difficult, particularly for configurations like E/F/R. Whenever one country stabs, it allies the other 2.
Autumn, 1907: I get that, but you guys decided in Spr01 the course of the game regardless. Fair enough - been there also, but in one of those games in particular I wish I had a spine.
Autumn, 1907: It's never as rigid as that. Had, for example, France overrun Italy rapidly and you had been stalled in the Balkans I imagine the alliances would've worked out completely differently.
Autumn, 1907: Agreed, while E/F has been strong throughout, the rest of the dynamics across the whole board were a primary catalyst for that strength.
Autumn, 1907: You can't justify shite bagging it. But hey, lets play to the end.
Autumn, 1907: But, I will note as well that I was never really inclined to stab England, regardless of where things went, because I enjoyed interacting with him/her/them. And that is probably the best lesson to learn from this game, is that being a faithful *and friendly* ally is the best way to succeed (or at least survive to the end game). |
|
Autumn, 1907: See above
Autumn, 1907: Non-anon5 is shaping up to be a doozie.
Autumn, 1907: Hehehe - as I say, I hold no grudges or care about names :-)
Autumn, 1907: But yes :-)
Autumn, 1907: Can't wait :)
Autumn, 1907: I just joined; I would never pass up another opportunity to betray my good friend Mr Ron Hardie of Russia.
Autumn, 1907: Welcome | |
Autumn, 1907: Woah woah France I was only trying to spice things up. Using global chat to try and break up alliances is also part of the game.
Autumn, 1907: All good, not upset at you Austria, all in the game
Autumn, 1907: Who could you be upset at?
Autumn, 1907: Fair point
Spring, 1908: I’m assuming it’s the guys in Brest. They must have done something to still have troops based there.
Spring, 1908: It's the excellent seafood. Nobody wants to leave.
Spring, 1908: I thought it might be the comical name.
Spring, 1908: lol g1 | |
Spring, 1908: Lolol | |
Spring, 1909: Has England actually done anything? Yeah they took St P but everything else has been won by France. I’d be ashamed at this especially as France will need to let England play catch up because of their inadequacy.
Spring, 1909: Have I done anything? I stabbed you rather effectively.
Spring, 1909: England's definitely done their work this game. They're far from an inadequate or an inexperienced player.
Spring, 1909: My point being that in this great Anglo Franco union, France has done all the work. England are the leech of the partnership. France needs to gift England 6 cities to draw.
Spring, 1909: I think you're confusing me with the Westminster government and the way they took all the Scottish oil.
Spring, 1909: And continue to do so.
Spring, 1909: Damn Sassenachs
Spring, 1909: I disagree. We had equal efforts subduing Germany, but England had the much harder job stabbing and fighting Russia. I got opportunistic gains against Italy, and when Russia stabbed Austria and their alliance fell apart, I was just lucky to be in a position to mop up the mess.
Spring, 1909: Unless you play a variant that has SCs in maritime provinces, France tends to do more heavy lifting in an E/F.
Spring, 1909: No worries. Just taunting. Not working. But France could win this year.
Spring, 1909: When things go pear shaped. Use global to try and sow division.
Spring, 1909: Fair | |
Autumn, 1909: 1 center away? So you gonna let me keep Vienna and ank until england can catch up?
Autumn, 1909: Catch up! Exactly.
Autumn, 1909: Yes, that was promise, and I'm going to keep it.
Autumn, 1910: I think quickest here is Spring: You support Gal-Vie, I backfill from War. Fall: you vacate Rum and take Ank, I move Sev-Rum and take Bud from Gal. Confetti and balloons.
Autumn, 1910: gg e1 | |
Spring, 1911: Well played.
Spring, 1911: Agree with the plan England. Good game all, hopefully y'all will believe in the possibility of 2-ways in the future. Sometimes it's even more satisfying than a solo. |
|
Spring, 1911: Not biting :-)
Spring, 1911: You stick to your guns, Ron, just don't point em at me.
Spring, 1911: Good game Thanks all |
|
Spring, 1911: Hehe GK. no worries. |
